Looking for Real Weed Killer That Actually Works

My backyard is a mess with overgrown weeds, I have tried all brands from Woolworths ,Bunnings etc but nothing seems to work.

Is there some strong weed killer that actually shows results?

I want such an item that I can apply for my entire backyard and in 2 or 3 days my backyard should look like a desert sand

Is there any such weed killer ?

Glyphosate works incredibly well IF applied properly - i.e when weeds are growing, sprayed at right time of day, left before mowing for a few days after, right spray droplet size etc.

Very few products work if used improperly - a lil reading up about glypho products and using them optimally will give you tremendous results on near everything.

I say this as someone who lives rurally and uses a crapload of it regularly.

      • I've tried a lot over the years and I always return to Glyphosate (Roundup), it's the only one that reliably kills everything, adding a wetting agent/surfactant helps with a lot of weeds, being a cheapskate I just use a decent squirt of dishwashing liquid as a surfactant… Glyphosate is also good because if it rains soon after spraying it still seems to work, in an ideal world you wouldn't spray if rain is forecast in the next few hours…. 10ml per L of 360g/l glyphosate seems to kill most things where I am… With trees and woody weeds like African Boxthorn or blackberry, cut them down then paint the stump with full strength concentrate…

I've started using "Kamba M" a bit also in recent years, special order from Bunnings, it's a selective broadleaf killer, I've been using it with good success on thistles, horehound, capeweed, it seems to keep the grass intact quite well…

I like to spray at as low a pressure as possible with the spray nozzle adjusted quite loose so I get large droplets that fall, rather than a high pressure fine mist that is more likely to blow around everywhere…

(I have quite a large acreage, it's been a 25 year mission to get the place relatively weed free, with the recent wet summers some weeds have vanished but new ones have become an issue, currently dealing with a serrated tussock outbreak that's spread from a nearby market garden, they probably introduced it with mulch or manure)

  • Be patient with glyphosate. It takes time when things are growing slowly. This time of year it starts to grow a bit quicker and will work better over summer.

    Petrol kills anything.

Steam/boiling water is a very environmentally friendly way to weed as well. Works near instantly, but doesn’t really prevent regrowrth
