Yabby Lake Vineyard Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 (750ml) $49 + Delivery @ MS Cellars

31
YABBY

Benchmark Mornington Pinot Noir from Tom Carson.

It comes loaded with intense purple fruit and a whole lot of whole-bunch structure, a wine for big glasses and a long decant.

2019 was an excellent vintage for this wine. It will be equally impressive in the glass as a young wine or with the maturity of a few years in the cellar.

Best price & in stock, hurry up.

Feels overpriced and a token discount for advertising. Dan's review says:
Purchased on the recommendation of a staff member for a special occassion. Couldn't have been more disappointed, very underwhelming wine. Overpowered by a strong earthy nose, it offered a dull taste with no complexity at all. I'm easily pleased with my wines, but this was not a good experience. Would not pay over $5 for what we tasted.

  • Vivino seems to rate it quite highly (4.1).
But agreed the dan murphys reviews are a bit lacking.

I think it's a hard sell to get any ozbargainer to spend more than $30 a bottle (unless its penfolds) and a token $20 discount on DM's i feel doesnt cut it given the amount of excess wine stock floating around

    • I'd disagree with part of this. Ozbargainers wouldn't buy Penfolds unless it's at a steep discount. Penfolds is 20% over priced from the very beginning because it's Penfolds.

      • I dont think any ozbargainer would by penfolds unless at a steep discount

Nicks rate it 95pts, and Vivino has over 1,000 reviews.

I would say the people reviewing on Dan Murphys are use to drinking $5 wine.

There's some really good Pinots for $50 tho, saying that not many have 1,000 ratings.

Also langtons classifies this as "excellent".

I think it's a good wine particularly as good PN is not cheap but the discount here is pretty average

    • yeah not the killer discount i look for in wines as i buy by the case , and $50 bottles i tend to buy 1-2 at a time and usually at tastings where i have tried them compared to other wines for value.

Struggling to understand site, is this for a case of 6 or 12? Thanks.

i’ve had this wine and vintage 2019 in a restaurant this year, excellent pinot and more in a heavier french style with some forest floor character than light australian $20 pinots…..really liked it except it’s price, if it was $30 I’d stock up and make it my quaffer, and it was definitely in the $50+ category of pinots quality wise of which there are many …Farr, 10 mins tractor single vineyards, etc.

Dans reviews …… i wouldn’t worry about it at this level of whine. sorry meant wine.

bargain ….. at $50 there are lots of great pinots any day of the week, my goal in bargain hunting is the $20 pinot that tastes like the $50 pinot

    • Totally agree with this. Haven't tried the 2019 vintage, but definitely enjoyed those I have tried. Always keeping an eye out for this to come on sale, but $49 is still just ok from my perspective unfortunately. Find this for $30 and I will be going to town.

    • Tough goal tho! $20 if you can get discount from $40+ is great!

A shame mscellars have not updated this price for selling that wine on Vivino, it's still showing there for $59 a bottle.

$49 a bottle stacked with vivino's 20% first time discount would make it a deal.

  • 95pts on The Wine Front which is by far Australia's best wine review site. $50 is a good price too. It's pretty rare to get this level of quality for $20-30. Not unheard of but rare.

Obviously not intended for folks who buy based on Dan's reviews so pretty unecessary to post that. If something is posted you have no interest in or knowledge of, just ignore it.

  • I didn't know Intel had a vineyard now…
