I’ve always used blades and I wander does these type of razors gives you an actual clean shave? Or is it more like a one day beard?

    • following this answer

    • I have the Skull Shaver which is very similar. It does not give a clean shave, but very close. It's lower than clippers can get but not as close as a razor. I prefer it to a razor, very quick and no mess.

      • Hi Wally,
Thanks. This is the best comparison. This razor can not compare to a razor, but the difference between them is a fine margin. This shaver is designed for a quick shave, and you can travel with it.

I also have a Skull Shaver - used regularly for the last 2 years about 2-3 times per week. It's a decent quality product and still going strong.

How does Remington compare to Skull Shaver in quality? I've had a few Remington products in the past and have been underwhelmed.

    • Shorter than 00, but not as close as a blade. Equivalent to around half to one day's growth.
The idea is to run it over your head every 2ish days to keep it super short.

I have a 'made in PRC but unbranded' one from ebay which I picked up for $30 delivered.

No, not comparable to a blade in my opinion. I have switched between electrical and blades a few times, now sticking with blades are it causes less irritation for me. I used high-end electrical ones, but after using it it felt similar to not having shaved with a blade for 2/3rd's of a day.

  • Thanks for the question. It can go super close (cuts hair down to 0.2mm). So Yes, it gives an actual clean shave.

    • How much are the replacement blades? I have been using the pitbull and replacement blades are $34

  • This one does a good job .

  • Paid $114 from Amazon for this earlier in the year - great product. 2 minutes in the shower of a morning, nice and easy, gives a pretty good result. Not quite as close as a razor, but darn close and far easier.

  • This thing looks like the face hugger from Alien.

  • Thanks OP, i've been using a modified Wahl Balder (the clippers are basically as close as you can get, but can be very abrasive to the scalp if not used the right way). Keen to try this out.

  • I’ve got this shaver and pretty happy with it. I have sensitive skin and so far I haven’t had any issues. I find it a little tricky getting all the hairs around the ears but it’s not a huge drama.

  • Was tossing up this and the Pitbull, went with the Pitbull in the end. I wasn't too convinced you'd be able to find replacement blades for this in 2-3 years when they decide to stop supporting it. Been very happy with the pitbull so far, the only thing I don't like is the fake macho bullsh*t branding.

  • I've been using the Rx5 for about 18 months now and it's fantastic. I managed to snag it on Amazon for $67. I shave every 2 days or so.

My brother's kids got him one for Father's Day last year at my recommendation and he loves it.

It cuts very close (though I've never shaved with a razor so can't compare). This is great for convenience - quick and easy.

I have another, cheaper head shaver but it's much smaller and doesn't cut nearly as effectively.

    • How many times have you replaced the blades in 18 months shaving every 2 days? And also how much are replacement blades

      • I'm still using the original blade. But I clean it after every use and spray it with Shaver Guard (from Shaver Shop) each time.
