TP Link Deco M9 Plus and D-Link DVA2800 Combination for nbn HFC?

So I now own both of these, because I wanted the mesh network for my apartment. Is there any benefit to connecting the M9 Plus to my D-Link modem/router, or am I better off just connecting the M9 Plus directly into the NBN box?

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, I just didn't know where else to get a simple answer

  • What sort of NBN? Fibre?

    • HFC

    Plugin the Deco M9 into the HFC nbn box. The D-Link DVA2800 isn't serving any purpose.

  • Turn off D-Link wifi if you keep the existing setup

    With HFC you need NBN connection box … then a modem … then a wifi router. Your Dlink is a combined modem + wifi router. So you need to turn wifi off on that D-link, and keep using it as a modem, then hook your Tplink deco to it. Deco M9 will do wifi routering, and Dlink serving as modem.

      I just plugged the Deco straight into the NBN box. working pretty great. is there any benefit to putting the Dlink in the middle?

      • Probably not. Some modems have the telephone line connection that people required

        No benefit. The D-Link DVA2800 is doing nothing.

      That is not right. The NBN box for HFC is a modem.

      NBN HFC box (modem) + TP-Link Deco M9 (router and Wi-Fi) = all you need.

      • I am not sure. With mine one, I still need a modem between.

        • Are you using a VoIP telephone from your ISP with Telstra, TPG or Optus?

          • @Twix: TPG

            • @JinT: Noted. Is that with or without VoIP?

              • @Twix: With voip

                • @JinT: Leave your setup how it is if you want to keep VoIP. With TPG they make you use their provided modem for VoIP telephone.

                @Twix: So without voip, we do not need the modem between then?

                • +1

                  @JinT: That is right.

                    @Twix: Great to know, thanks.
