I applied for an AMEX cash-back credit card today and received a call asking about my visa sub-class.
I told the AMEX guy that I'm holding a working visa 485 that expires on June 2023.
However, the guy said that 485 visa is not a long-term visa, and non of their credit card will be approved under the 485 visa type.
I'm confused, because on the website it said you must be a citizen/PR/long term visa >12 months remaining (not student visa).
Why doesn't the 485 visa count??

I've had people buying phones on contract, then leaving the country. So not a far-fetched idea for someone to rack up bills and leave the country without ever paying.
Yea it's weird, my 485 lasts for 24 months and I have an apartment under my name. Still declined, sad.
Should have told them you use MasterCard as the alternative, not Visa!
To answer your question - perhaps the rules changed? It's up to them if they deny an application for whatever reason. Not sure if the 485 visa is covered or not. The website might be out of date. Just ask them to send you a copy of the rulings/t&c's etc…

A friend of mine was also on 485. App was rejected. Just AMEX things.
Yeah, guess I won't apply for another before I change my visa.
So stupid that they don't accept a 485 but will accept a 482. Even high income thresholds don't matter :/
I'd argue the 482 is more restrictive (risky) than the 485.
Go with any of the big 4 instead, they'll issue cards no stress

I've applied 3 times this year and non of them was approved. They don't even tell me why, all they say was "based on overall assessment"

I am on 190 but they neither checked or asked my visa details.
Yes, 190 is a type of PR, I think they can access your visa/medicare details by your name and DOB.
Probably a 457 Visa, however it is now known as something else.
