Electric Scooter for Hills

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get a scooter to ride around the neighbourhood during these depressing lockdown times.

I was looking at Xiaomi Scooter Pro 2. Seems a decent price for a decent motor. Although not sure whether the wheels can puncture and whether this is a major concern or not.

I live in a fairly hilly area tho with some steep hills, maybe up to 30-40 degrees?
I weigh about 75kg.

Are any owners or other scooter riders able to comment on the ability to go up hills?

In South Australia, it is illegal to ride an electric scooter on the road, footpath, bicycle, pedestrian track, or vehicle parking areas and can only be used on private property.

    Double check this first.

See a cop, pretend it's a manual scooter.

    • How does that work when Beam is available in CBD?

      • There's an exception for Beam and Neuron in CBD and trial period in North Adelaide only. See below.

    • Is it? I see those scooters everywhere in the CBD. I'm going to have a go at one soon!

There's an exception for two operators in CBD and trial period in North Adelaide only.

Only e-scooters operated by approved providers are permitted by the City of Adelaide in the 'trial area'.

They are actually a lot of fun when tried them in Canberra. The roads are also pretty flat and ideal for them there.

  • Honestly 30 to 40 degree slope is steep. Pro isn't that great for long inclines. You will find youll want to do some manual assist up hills. For me it goes about 10 to 15kmph up a steep hill in sports mode I'm a bit lighter. Motor heats up a lot as well

I switched out to 10 inch tyres for easier tyre changes but less torque . This was before Segway brought out the F40.

    • Would the F40 be a better option for hills?

      • Honestly haven't seen much reviews for f40. If you want to properly go up hills people talk about the zero series but it gets pricey.

If it's casual riding pro 2 should be fine. Tyre changing is hard, but you need the right tools and it's ok.

  • Anyone know where can one buy the Xiaomi scooter pro 2 for the cheapest price atm?
