Installing 2TB/4TB Gen4 PCIe NVMe SSD into Acer Nitro 5 Laptop

Hi All,

My mate bought the Acer Nitro 5 RTX 3060 I7 11800H from Bing Lee on sale and decided that he wants to replace the main drive
with 2x2TB or leave the main drive and add a 4TB Gen4 PCIe SSD for the 2nd NVMe slot.

The Laptop isn't being used primarily for gaming, but for music/sound production. He'll still be gaming on it though.

Wondering if this is actually possible or the Laptop will just overheat too much because the SSD he wants to get is the Sabrent
Rocket 4 Plus 4TB or 2x Rocket 4 Plus 2TB. 2x Samsung 980 Pro drives were also an option.

There are thermal pads on the underside of the SSD covers for the SSD slots, will these be enough to dissipate the heat or is a
heat sink required? If one is required, is there one which would fit inside this Laptop?

if the SSDs above aren't a good idea, would getting two of Silicon Power 2TB US70 NVMe Gen4 be an alternative here? They're
on amazon for $399 each.

Thanks in advance

  • Is that much storage actually needed for music production?

Personally, I'd consider running off a NAS and transferring files when needed.

Something link this could be an option, doesn't look too portable.
