i think ill just buy 2 samsung s21s and turn them into a samsung s42

  • do i need to be a telstra customer ?

    • +4

yes. you'll be one if you purchase the phone

  • -3

Do you think this price drop across Samsung phones has to coincide with iPhone 13 incoming?

    • +1

Well, it's only at Telstra from what I can tell so I doubt it's iPhone related.

    • +2

No. iPhone price drop on Telstra day coincides with upcoming Samsung Fold/Flip release.

  • +1

Admittedly I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to phone prices these days, but am I wrong in thinking this price for the Ultra isn't that competitive?

    • for s21 ultra, yh its not that competitive, but the discount on s21 base is absolute steal at this price.

    • This special price should have been the retail price imo.

Especially because they try to hustle us and EU with cheaper shitter Exynos cpus

    • +1

The reality is that software is becoming the most important part of a phone. Even if Samsung put the best camera on their phone and apps like Instagram can't take advantage of that camera, it's becomes kinda useless for most people.
You pay the premium but it's not. I'm an Android fan and desperate to upgrade but still not tempted.
Waiting for Pixel 6 and that big camera upgrade.
If they fail to deliver at least 5 years of update or a proper camera support for third party apps I'm going back to buying used iPhones and cheap Android phones.
Phones needs to be smarter by taking full advantage of machine learning and predict what you're going to do and adjust accordingly.

      • Pretty much the only reason why I'll most likely continue to buy Pixel phones. Samsung makes good things on paper (tech specs are all amazing), but the user experience is where they severely lack in their tech endeavours and what puts me (personally) off their products.

        • +1

          Right.
          Simple and clean.
Constant camera upgrade through software updates.
Bought mine 4 years ago and still solid.
Phones released 2 years after mine didn't have a night mode features but Google gave it to all pixels fo free.

  • +1

ehh i dont think its worth it over base s21 at these prices…. shame was hoping for it to go under 1k

    • They were when Samsung ran their trade in program

  • Any Pro / Pro Max deals?

  • any note 20 ultra deals?

    • It was $999 a while ago.

      • it was. alright before my note 10 decided to take a leap of faith outta my pocket.

  • Are they unlocked?

  • Discount doesnt seem to be applied on the s21 when I try to purchase. Anyone had luck?

    • +1

No luck still, seems to be an error on Telstra's part, or they're just slow to update

      • When I go to the purchase page for S21 it's "scheduled maintenance".

        • +2

I got "Something went wrong", "We're unable to process your order at this time".

Telstra Day starts with a Telstra outage.

  • Definitely going live. Seen this ad on Google

Although it says you have to add it to a month to month plan to get 30% off

  • I have a Note 9 and well guess an S21 would be nice but taking it on a contract… with a new number and plan… don't want that.

    • You can buy it outright, just don't choose the plan.

      • Yea I don't want to buy it outright. Was hopibg to get it on a plan for 24 bucks as I'm not even sure if i want to replace my note :)

        • I feel that way about my 2.5 year old S10 … I have no reason to replace it.
Bought the S21 for my mum … didn't think to ask her if she was attached to her S10 like I am to mine though lol.

  • +1

    Just ordered a S21 256gb outright for $672, what a steal!

    • Ordered 128 gb in hurry, going to regret I guess

    • How??? Sorry thought it was the Ultra.

    • Not really, it was $350 odd a few months ago via samsung.

      • Only with an eligible trade-in device, right? Not everyone could get it.

        • Lots of people got it. I got 3, one for me and 2 for my sisters. That was a sweet deal.

  • +1

Is this the cheapest ultra it's been and worth to buy? 🤔

    • I think it’s the cheapest it’s been and it’s a great phone. I love mine

    • Not really if you include the Samsung trade in bonus deal. I paid 909 bucks for S21 Ultra 256GB

  • FYI. I just order one without a plan.

    • how?

      • +3

Buy it outright and skip the plan

        • +1

I keep getting an error message after entering my personal details. Do you have a service with Telstra?

          • +1

            @Theluckycooper: Nah I don't.

I'm still stuck at the "Sorry, something went wrong". Refreshing it has done jack

  • Are these network locked?

  • +1

how much of a camera upgrade is the s21 over the s9?

  • +7

Their site is absolute dogshit. I tried to buy the phone outright and it requires you to do an id check…When i do it just ends up saying "Something went wrong".

    • +1

      Getting this error as well

      • Same here

        • +2

I thought it was browser related issue but maybe their site has been flooded by Ozbargainers.

Tried it in Chrome, Edge and Firefox as well as incognito mode but nothing.

        • Yep same here

      • +2

Ive given up, im convinced this is an elaborate Telstra data harvesting operation. Looks like the deal only works for existing Telstra customers. Why does a business require an ID check when someone is buying their product outright? Disgusting .

        • +1

Didn't work when I tried using a newly created Telstra ID (I also got the 'something went wrong' message). But managed to get it using a dormant Telstra ID with no current service attached to it.

        • Because the deal is that you are supposed to add a mobile phone plan month to month. That's how they make their money. But with such a good deal it still makes sense to cancel the plan after a day🤣🎉😱💯

  • +2

Since Samsung removed micro sd on their flagship models, it's easier to switch to other brands, waiting for Pixel 6

    • +1

Since when did google have a microsd card slot?

  • +1

Requires a plan so min cost on S21 128gb is +$1,900

    • Nah…you can skip that and just click next.

Just shitty that I get a screen that says "Sorry, something went wrong"

Edit: Need to buy it outright

      • wasted all day on this, phoned two stores and attempted multiple time,,,guess what???? ……SOMETHING WENT WRONG…this was the reason I left Telstra years ago and btw they have my licence number and address now…woohoo.

  • the S21 or the S20 FE?

    • I've had nothing but problems with my S21 plus, it randomly shuts down and restarts 3 or 4 times a day, it gets hot. Samsung support haven't been great either. I regret buying it and it seems according to forums and reviews there are loads of others having similar issues.

  • +2

Yeah, unfortunately I'm getting the "Something Went Wrong" message as well. :(

  • I have S10 5G at the moment, do you guys think its worth an upgrade to S21 Ultra ?

    • +1

I had that phone and upgrade to the S20 Ultra and was disappointed. Maybe stick with it for one more gen.

      • Thanks mate.. I thought the same..

        • I love the pics the s10 5g took. Devo the back step in quality

  • I just managed to purchase a S21 outright without needing to sign up for any ongoing plan - existing telstra customer. $624. Confirmed. Let's see if it actually arrives.

    • how?
most of us keeps getting an error.

it says "outright purchases are only available with eligible plans."

      • went to telstra website on chrome, not logged in. Click telstra day deal. Select S21 5g. Select outright. Skip all plan related selections. Scroll to bottom, click next - total showing $624 - one off. Then I followed through and logged in from there, and input the ID stuff. HOWEVER, trying to replicate this now, classic telstra website crashes and says "scheduled maintenance- We're updating our shop". Sorry!

        • I just done it on mobile and it worked.
          had errors before

keep trying guys, it will work eventually.

  • Just ordered S21 5G 256gb outright for $672. Absolute steal!

Got the error message doing it on desktop, but worked on my phone.

    • +1
      same
had errors on phone but it worked eventually.

    • Update: just picked up the new phone! Super quick 1-day delivery.

  • Is Ultra be cheaper via Educational portal deal with the trade in?

  • I'm at the store now.. you have to be a Telstra customer

    • I was a Telstra customer, then a boost customer and order went through.

      • They wouldn't do it for me. I had to do a one month plan then cancel it on the last day otherwise full price.

    • buy one of those $2 sims and sign up. You can purchase outright once you have an account

      • Had to be post paid

        • I created an account with Telstra years ago from registering my $2 sim. Logging into that account allowed the 'outright' button to show up. Either that, or try your luck going through Mobile devices on a place -> S21 outright

      • This worked for me too!.

        • good on you brother, happy that you got your share of the deal!

    • If you are "in store", of course the staff would insist you need to be a Tel$tra customer. Tel$tra store staff are known to be not keen to sell you a phone outright with no plan.

No issue with online (not an active customer). I only tried adding it to the cart, did not checkout. I don't need another toy right now.

      • The issue comes out during the checkout process

  • Damn - getting a scheduled maintenance notice - thy'll be back up at 10:00 am

  • Snapdragon or Exynos?

    • all aus stock is exynos - we get the short end of the stick… as always

      • Ok for the debate continues if SD or Exynos better. which i remember SD was

        • +2

SD 20% better performance and camera detail. but yeah I got the S21 base for $672, I wouldn't get the Ultra with Exynos at this price

  • +1

Cannot verify, something went wrong, any luck?
