Directly taken from JB Hi-fi page:
Nikon Australia has recently repositioned its local pricing on the full range of Digital SLR Cameras. Due to the dramatic local price reduction and the inclusion of a 2 year fully supported local Nikon manufacturer’s warranty JB Hi-Fi has decided to suspend its Direct Import service for Nikon Cameras.

We congratulate Nikon Australia for working hard to deliver global pricing competitiveness for Australian consumers.

How is this a bargain? This is a basically a press release by JB.

    • yeah, you are right. just updated the description to make it more informative.

The press release says nikon d700 for $1400 surely they meant d7000. Although i hope they will reduce the d700 price closer to the current us price 2199.

  • now for canon to step up their game

    • Kodak need to step up a bit aswell.

That article on Smarthouse.com.au is horrible… D700 typo, fear mongering with 'guarantee of genuine parts', and 'genuine Nikon camera' even with an inclusion of fake iPhone 5s…

  • Hmm thought that article said its on par with grey.

Not good enough, thanks for sharing though.

What gets me annoyed is the scare tactics that are used on consumers to stop them buying grey imports.
The actual risk compared to the perceived risk that is pushed from local suppliers are not even close.
Who has ever bought a grey import camera and got it home, opened it to find it is a fake replica? Shoes maybe, but a DSLR?
The grey imports are genuine products that are packaged for other zones around the world, they are not underground crime scams.

    • The only issue arrises when the camera breaks and the everyday consumer has difficulty getting it repaired under warranty. That is the only reason against buying grey. For the informed and technical minded consumer like most here, it's not an issue. I would never buy any camera gear from a retailer unless I desperately needed it.

  • It's a step in right direction but on par with grey pricing that statement falls short, I hope when the 5DMKIII & 600ex makes it here we are not slugged an extra grand, I do want to support canon Australia but they have to be competitive in this global market.

  • Are those grey prices for the d5100 and d7000 inc or ex gst?

Good Camera, average price, but not a deal as such

  • lol i got the D5100 twin lens kit with extended 2yr warranty + camera bag all for $1200 from JB last year after a month the camera was released in Australia
    $1187 is hardly a bargain

    • you paid for the extended 2yr warranty on a dslr? how much did u pay for it for a d5100?

we need a real deal here.

Yer gotta say not the best deal. My D5100 twin lens kit I purchased November last year from HN (local stock) and was $1188.

DWI have the same kit now for AUD$1009 delivered.

  • I remember buying my D7000 with lense for $1350 over a year back! come on JB Hi-FI, sort yourselves out before you make silly statements!

  • Bought a D7000 on release for less than that!
