COTD charged my MasterCard WITHOUT a purchase

So I thought I'd try to buy the WD external HDD the other day in their ridiculous Flash Sale on the 29th Feb. Needless to say, after I entered my card details and pressed pay, the site booted me off. Now I check my card to find the following charge:

02/03/2012 CATCHOFTHEDAY.COM.AU ELSTERNWICK AU AUS
Card xxXXXX
Value Date: 29/02/2012 $58.95

I am assuming it was from this purchase, but the order doesn't even appear in my account on the COTD site.
I just submitted a complaint. Lets see what happens.

  • Wow that sucks for you. Though I don't think they did that on purpose because of the massive amount of traffic they were getting on their server something might have stuffed up. let us know how it goes..they should definitely honour the purchase

  • Ask for the drive to be delivered that you have paid for. Them taking payment is your contract of sale.

    • I don't think we have any evidence yet that it won't be delivered…… 29/02/2012 was only four days ago.

Chances are, the drive was purchased…. and will be delivered…. which is what the OP wanted…..
The only complaint so far is that it's not showing in his account.

      • They send confirmation emails if your purchase has gone through

Delivery in good time of course is what I meant. It is COTD after all.

If payment has been taken, goods should be supplied. The OP was saying no Item in Account so doubt it would get delivered unprompted.

what is a more relevant question, is did you get a e-mail invoice for your order?

  • This has happened to me on multiple occassions on their crazy sales - they refund you the money… but only if you complain. Took me a few weeks to notice one entry and they never initiated a refund until I figured it out and contacted them.

  • Yeah just contact them and they'll refund. You were one of the unlucky ones to be in that weird void between being charged right when the product runs out of stock. They charge you AND THEN mark it as sold on their system.

But yes they wont refund automatically (well they might but will take a while for them to notice) so a quick email should do the trick. worst case scenario hit up Seamus on Whirlpool who is the most helpful guy I've ever experienced in all of the interwebs retailing (and I mean that).

  • Sorry, I forgot to update this to confirm that they refunded me after I emailed them.
