Sending Expensive eBay Item to a "Hubbed" Delivery Address?

I sold what I would regard and expensive item on ebay from a buyer with zero feedback. I know that this a red flag already but we know we all started with zero feedback at one point! It's been a while since I've sold anything of this value and to make matters worse, this item has previously attracted two false sales. One from an account which was apparently compromised…causing my listing to almost disappear without a trace on my account!

So the item has sold again and to make to make matters concerning is that the delivery address is to a "hubbed" parcel collection location and specifically a petrol station. I've looked up a few reviews and things don't look too favourable (https://au.trustpilot.com/review/hubbed.com.au) as some buyers are claiming their items have gone missing.

I intended to post the item with signature on delivery but don't see any benefit it would provide in this scenario. Can anybody provide any information on these "hubbed" locations and how easy it would be for the buyer to claim a chargeback on my item if it was posted despite using tracking?

Update 8/9/21 - Thank you to all who took the time to respond and provided some sound advice. I've since gone ahead and cancelled the sale and sent a message to the seller expressing my concerns. Surprisingly, the seller replied and agreed that sending it to a "hubbed" address was risky but due to personal circumstances, it's their only means of receiving parcels at the moment! I have the option to relist for free (as it was listed under a promotional offer) so I've gone ahead to try one last time. I'll update the listing accordingly and specify some new terms (likely to be ignored I know). If it attracts another risky buyer, I'll give up at that point and attempt to sell privately.

Cancel sale immediately. Do not send item. /Thread

    • It would be sensible given the sales history it's had. Cheers.

Try not to sell on eBay. Not only does eBay charge a ridiculous percentage as a fee but it protects the buyer first and foremost.

        • I've been hanging on to this item waiting for a "$1 final listing fee" offer. Agreed - the fees would have been outrageous otherwise.

Don't be fooled into delivering it a different way either. Regardless of the "Hubbed" issue it's been bought by a scammer and any engagement with them will just result in you losing your item or your money.

It takes less than a week to buy half a dozen cheap items on eBay to build a feedback profile so check that too. Personally I wouldn't sell a high value item on eBay to anyone who's account was less than a year old with substantial feedback history. Rather than eBay I've found selling a high value item Facebook market for cash is a far more secure way.

You can probably cancel the sale with "problem with address". Might cop some fees but at least you will still have your item.

Then just sell it on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree for cash. At least if you get murdered at the servo you are dead.

One can cancel a eBay sale with reason "problem with address" and no fees will be charged on the transaction

Trust your instinct here. eBay will tell you to send the parcel to the listed address and you will have the benefit of their seller protection should any issues arise, but in reality there are many ways you can get in trouble as a seller.

Cancel the sale as item damaged and sell it privately.

Cheers and your absolutely right. Didn't do this year's ago on a cheaper item and ended up losing the item, the money and received unwarranted negative feedback. Ironically, I could not get the comments removed despite tracking showing item had been delivered!

If it feels dodgy it probably is. You clearly smell a rat so just cancel the sale as others have advised. You'll never know if it was all OK after all but you'll be kicking yourself if you followed through with the sale and your prediction comes true.
