iPhone 13 Availability in Retail Stores

Have a birthday coming up in mid October and I'm hoping to get the iPhone 13 from JB Hi-Fi or Good Guys. Just wondering if anyone would have any idea about the delay between iPhone official release and when general retailers (JB Hifi, Good Guys, etc) would have the phone available. I know that the unveiling date is very likely September 14th with formal release the following week. However, how long would it take for JB Hi-Fi to actually have it in stock and available for purchase by anybody.

Anyone remember anything about the timing for the iPhone 11 or 12 releases?

I know that the unveiling date is very likely September 14th

The unveiling date IS September 14th.

Just wondering, is there a reason why you would prefer to buy from a general retailer as opposed to directly from Apple?

Unless you have discounted giftcards from those retailers, I'd say just pop in your pre-order in directly with Apple. That's what I'll be doing with the 15% 'cashback' Apple Giftcards I got from Woolies last month.

    • Can you load discounted apple gift cards to your id and place order for physical products online like iPhone etc ? Can it be used instore aswell ?

        Yes and yes.

Giftcard can be loaded onto your apple ID and used to purchased hardware online.

It can also be used instore, maximum of 8 gift cards can be used in one transaction, but you can also combine giftcard with credit card in store.

You cannot use the balance on your apple ID in store though.

        • Apple Gift Card >> Apple Id balance >> Online Only, including hardware. >> ✅✅

Apple Gift Card >> without Adding to Apple id balance >> Online for hardware >> ✅✅✅ (Is there any limit to no of gift cards online on website, like you said 8 is limit for in-store?)

          Apple Id Balance >> Instore >> ❌❌

Can these be used in edu store aswell ? Gift cards and id balance.

Yes. Apple Gift Cards have been unified and work across their entire range now: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/gift-cards

Also, OP: Past releases will not be indicative of what may or may not happen for the iPhone 13 launch. There's all matter of different variables so it's irrelevant. Wait for the announcement on 14th and see from there.

    • what 15% cashback was this? cant find it on ozb

    • Well we know Apple has an event on September 14th. Whilst it is most likely going to be the unveiling of the iPhone 13, it is not guaranteed.

Reason is I have thousands in gift cards from said retailers.

      • It's all but guaranteed at this point.

Never personally bought phones from retailers. Either directly from Apple or through carriers. I would imagine there'll be fairly limited stock till later in Q4 at retailers.

        • I agree it'll almost certainly be about the iPhone 13. But until Apple announces that themselves, I'll hedge.

I tend to buy from retailers as I use specially-acquired gift cards lol.

          • @BYS2: That's probably the smart thing to do tbh, this will be my first time using Apple Giftcards, since they were discounted at Woolies, and I stacked it with my ANZ Rewards Black offer, so technically getting almost $1k back.

Either way, good luck with JB/Good Guys, hope you get lucky and they have plenty of stock early.

well if you preorder soon enough you can get them day 1. in terms of availability to walk into a store and buy one, it all depends on model/size/colour. with the iphone 12 and 11, certain phones became available within a couple weeks. it's usually the "pro" models that could take a month or two to become available

You best chance is to pre-order one from Apple and hope to get it quickly.

Watch and iPhone are expected to be in short supply due to issues with parts
Apple is going to be your best bet at getting one quickly.
(rumor is Watch wont get Aussie Launch same time as US like usually happens, According to rumor Australia will be 1-2 months after USA)

Just pre-order the phone as soon as it opens. Apple is usually always spot on with releases, but you will have to be quick to pre-order as the iPhone 12 releases last year saw delays if you didn’t pre-order straight away.

Think it was 2 weeks wait from announcement for the non max units and an extra 1-2 weeks for the max versions last year.

    • Ah thank you. should be ok then. exactly what I was after. cheers
