[Pre Order] ASRock B550 Steel Legend AM4 ATX Motherboard $139 + Free Delivery for Metro Areas @ Centre Com

530

If anyone is looking to build a new pc and can wait till the end of the month for delivery this is a great option. Great reviews for this board.
I personally haven't seen a board with similar VRM performance and features come this low. Seems to be a steal for this price if you can wait.

Pre Order. Current ETA: 25/09/21

Sounds like a great deal …. Unfortunately i have to buy my B550 this week to going with MSI B550 Tomahawk for 199$

If only the ETA was sooner …

    • +1

B550 Tomahawk comes with a $40 USD (~$52 AUD) steam gift card via redemption so that'd soften the blow a bit

      • Is the promo still running?

I found a page on their website but looks like the promo ended last year https://au.msi.com/Promotion/amd-b550-promotion

        VALID JUN 16 - AUG 31, 2020

      • Don't trust it though, MSI never gave me my giftcard on a different promotion.

        • Every bonus promo I've had to claim from MSI has been an issue. But after contacting them they have always sorted it out for me… It would be nice if I didn't have to follow them up every single time

        • I had no issues claiming my freebies at the start of last year.
It was a massive pain to do though (gathering serial numbers and reciepts).

    • Same board is in stock at umart for $169.

  • Thanks. I was waiting for Asrock B550 boards so this is good buy.

  • Got the matx of this. Excellent board.

  • How does this compare to the MSI B550 Mortar - better or same?

    • The mortar is in the matx form factor, whereas, this one is full size ATX. From my knowledge the Steel Legend has a better feature set and vrm thermals.

    • both 4 layer pcb (mediocre) , both have good power delivery enough to drive an OCed 5950x, both offer about the same sata port and m.2 port and similar audio, I'd get the cheaper one straight up.

      • +1

If only it came with Wifi & BT

  • Using Intel 7700k right now.. I can't use my existing ram on this can I?

    • DDR4? Yes.

    • b550 mobo is for ryzen tho, maybe b560 is what u want.

    • Ryzen tends to not like older 4Gb IC ( mind you I didn't mean 4GB stick, but 4Gb IC, aka 512MB per IC, so you need 8 chips to make a 4GB stick, or 16 chips to make a 8GB stick)

    • You can, but if your RAM is as old as the processor chances are it's lower clocked and going to hold a Ryzen CPU back a bit. You could try your hand at overclocking it or just spend $100 to keep your soul and will to live.

  • Make sure the BIOS is at least 1.3 if you want to put a 3600 into it.

    • In my case, I used this board without updating bios and it booted the 3600 with no issues.

I understand bios version may be different across different units/different retailers.

You will most probably need to update for Ryzen 5000 series, however.

      • +2

which means if you're going for a 5000 series avoid this board?

      • Sorry, yes I meant 5600 not 3600. :)

    • I'll be fine out of the box.

The one I ordered at the start of this year was good to go with my 5600x.

I did have to immidiately do a bios update, but it'll boot to bios at a minimum

Edit: to be perfectly clear I have this exact mobo

      • Yeah we got one a couple of months back that came with the 1.1 BIOS and wouldn't even boot with a 5600.

  • is there a MATX version of this?

  • This or the ASRock x570 phantom 4 wifi? If I'm able to get them for similar price

    • I would get this board as it has the better VRM

    • Asrock x570 has

      weaker VRM (power delivery)
weak memory topology (4 layer T-topology, T-top sucks with 2 sticks, and 4 layer pcb sucks with 4 sticks)
      no m.2 heatsink

It basically fails everything a motherboard should be good at.

  • Does this support pci4

    • Yes

      • +2

        Yes*

        • The G series APU's are only PCI-E 3.0 capable. You probably won't be building with one.
  • No bios flashback (ie. Flash bios without cpu), so be wary if you want to use this with a newer CPU (Ie. 5000 series CPU and especially a 5000 series APU), as you don't know what bios this will ship with…

Centrecom might be nice enough to flash the latest version on there if you put it in the order notes, maybe?

Edit: Also some people are against Realtek NIC's. I imagine the experience on Linux will be bumpy without a recent kernel.

  • this or Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard? the later comes with wifi 6 module by default.

    • Well the Asus is twice the price plus it has wifi. If you need wifi, then spending a little more for the Asus rather than a dedicated wifi card + Asrock might be worth it.
Plus there are mixed reviews for this board, USB issues, reliability etc

      • got any links to the Asus reviews mate?

        • +1

No however I'm sure googling will give you your answers immediately.

  • is this a good upgrade for a b450 aorus pro wifi?

    • +3

I would hold off till AMD release their new chipset which will require a new mobo. As for now, ur board will run 5000 series fine.

      • New chipset, new cpu? 5000 series just cane out last year

    • +3

no just get a new CPU and new board next time.

    • I have same board and running 5900x fine. Cinebench gets VRM's very toasty. 100 + degrees.

  • Hope it's better than the B450 version, went through 2 of those.

  • Arhhhh I was trying to wait until the end of the year to upgrade my mobo…

  • Wow this is so much cheaper than the B550M Tomahawk that i was contemplating for my wife's video editing PC build!

  • The b550 taichi was a ridiculous 199 or something through the week too. Just missed out on that. Cheers to the folks in the comments re. The bios updates.

  • My order has been dispatched. Wow

    • I thought pre order?

      • Yeah wonder why its been shipped with tracking number.

        • Possibly their orders came in early. I've bought one too but no tracking yet

  • +1

Just a warning guys! If you buy this and install a 5000 series, it will not boot properly. You need to update the BIOS from the manufacturers website

  • Ugh!!! I had one of these in my cart last night and had no idea that this $139 price was about to expire on me….was there an expiry on this deal posted on the Centre Com website that I missed?

I went back to place the order just now and the price has gone to $179.
I'm not a gamer but it's about time I upgraded my PC, this board looked alright but I guess I'll look around for something else as my budget was $120-140 anyway.

    • They always have promotions & discounts. Who knows, you might end up with a better board for a similar price. Cheers

      • Thanks, I will keep my eyes peeled. I'm not in a hurry and I was actually just thinking about it now, I may even be better off waiting for black friday/cyber monday in November and hope to snag a discount off a CPU etc via an eBay sale or similar.
