[NSW] Free $50 Cab Rides to Vaccination Appointments @ Cabcharge

2280

Australian business Cabcharge will offer $50 vouchers for residents in NSW to travel to and from their Covid-19 vaccination appointment, joining other businesses offering initiatives to help get the country vaccinated.

Cabcharge boss Cyrus Asher said he wanted to offer a safe way for people to travel to their appointment, and avoid the highly-transmissible Delta variant of the virus.

“Many people are wary of public transport because of the speedy transmission of the Delta virus,” Mr Asher told Sky News.

“And helping people to a vaccination hub is a thoughtful gesture when people have lost their jobs or are experiencing financial stress.”

The vouchers will be made available to anyone in the state, Mr Asher said, in the hopes to help NSW reach the 70 per cent fully vaccinated rate needed to open up.

The giveaway – launched on Thursday – will see up to $200,000 worth of free taxi rides provided to people going to either their first or second dose bookings.

“It could be a frontline worker, a hairdresser desperate to get back to work, residents with special travel needs — we want to ensure no one is left behind for a safe and reliable ride to the vaccination appointment,” Mr Asher said.

“We want to aid the vaccination initiative across the state and hope other businesses can support this initiative as well.”

    Wow!
I'm sure this will really help quite a lot of people.
Although I personally feel the the fact the Giveaway is only open to NSW residents over the age of 18 years is excluding one of the groups who'd probably need transport the most: the under 18s.

There's probably a couple of legal things though that require that.

    • +11

I would suspect that most under 18’s may have a parent accompany them. Nothing to stop the parent getting the voucher.

    • It's always the new users to get discounts. What about the existing ones.

      Cyrus Asher, what a legend!

  • What if you get COVID riding a cab?

  • +2

    Okay, normally I hate 'what-about-me-ism'

    But

    WHAT ABOUT ME!!!

    weird it's NSW only

    • +4

Possibly reimbursed by Glad Bags Bin Chicken.

      • -1

some how sounds like NSW premier (Glad-y Bags-Bin-Chicken)….LoL

    • +1

Yeah I don't know why Vic is excluded, given NSW caused the problems in Melbourne.

  • +4

I'm gonna take the 5th jab just so I could use this voucher

        • wine caskets??? that makes this deal even better.

  • +11

I am capable of driving myself and my wife to the vaccination appointment therefore we will not claim this voucher. It's a good gesture by Cabcharge and I hope it goes to people who actually need it the most.

  • Sounds like a good initiative. They should do similar with public transport.

  • +3

Put the vaccination clinic in a strip club and we have a deal

    • +10

      Username checks out

  • -4

it is unbelievable there is literally no statewide or nationwide vaccination campaign, promotion, TV, radio commercials, bilboards being full of vaccination advertisements given the fact that Australia is one of the countries with the lowest vaccination rates in the developed world.

    • +3

      Er, but there is?

    • -7

Good to see there are people out there questioning EVERYTHING.
How is a vaccine that's been developed in less that 8 months even a thing???
The fact your government is coercing and incentivising vaccines is beyond ridiculous and something everyone should be weary of.

      • +1

lol it's based off the sars one or something like that. Developed way before 8mths.

  • Free transport, Yay…. thanks scomo.

  • +3

Why does Cabcharge they need to know if you are EMPLOYED & ask for your company details???
    It's on here:

    http://www.cabcharge.com.au/voucher

    It's none of their business!

I hate how they businesses always ask irrelevant questions and I will always lie about about this.

      Just put "no"
      How hard is that mate

I'm gonna take the 5th jab just so I could use this voucher
Your comment about the 5th jab reminded me about Israel getting ready for the 4th jab and some other interesting links came from there.

        https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9959811/Israel-plan…

Israel is set to begin preparations to administer fourth doses of the coronavirus vaccines as the country deals with soaring cases despite its trail-blazing roll-out of jabs.

The country's national coronavirus czar Salman Zarka said the country needs to prepare for a fourth injection, which could be modified to better protect against new variants of the virus.

'Given that that the virus is here and will continue to be here, we also need to prepare for a fourth injection,' he told Kan public radio.

'This is our life from now on, in waves.'

'Thinking about this and the waning of the vaccines and the antibodies, it seems every few months — it could be once a year or five or six months — we'll need another shot.'

        • +1

          Sad

        • So you're telling me they figured out a way to slow down the virus with new research? Isn't that a good thing?

Brett Sutton Victoria's Chief Health Officer in 2020.

"We're not going to see, you know, 300s and 400s [new COVID-19 cases] again in Victoria, not under my watch at least."

Not just Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but all days of the week.

  • Damn if only i saw this today…

Second jab hurts a hell lot more for some reason.

Does this work in all cabs? Do I just flash the voucher at the end of the ride?

    • Yeh confusing

HOW TO PAY WITH YOUR PASS

      1. Let your driver know that you’ll be paying with Cabcharge.

      2. At the end of the trip, select your Cabcharge Digital Pass in your Apple Wallet.

      3. Hold your device near reader.
Use Touch ID, Face ID or enter your passcode to authorise payment.

    • Interested to know too and whether you have to book in advance

  • pfft, used to be free train rides when I was a kid in Germany.

  • Didn't know that Apple Wallet NFC worked for things that aren't Visa/MasterCard/AMEX etc.

    • Everyday Rewards from Woolworths also uses NFC :)

  • Anyone know if the 24 hour turnaround includes the weekend days? (Whether or not it will be available before Monday will influence my weekend schedule).

Already reached out to them to confirm this, but of course it will be moot if they don't operate on weekends and don't reply till Monday, haha. Will update this comment if I do find out

    • Turns out it ended up in spam texts and was actually already processed same day, for anyone wondering.

      • -2

Thanks for your update. Looks like that they take our details and not really doing anything as they advertised.

      • I also wasn't able to end up using the coupon - it was for rides up to $50, but there was no option even though I wanted to, to book a ride over $50 to the vaccination, use the coupon, and pay the difference.

In the end, getting to a location that would bring the cost below $50 + the cab time itself was more than just taking public transport there…

  • I signed up for this AGES ago and have completely forgotten how to use it. I received no email or sms from them.
Any ideas where this voucher could be stored?

  • Has anyone been able to successfully add their voucher to either a 13cabs app or Silver Service app to pay for and pre-book a ride there?
