Your Most Replayed Single Player Game of Last Gen?

What was your most replayed single player games of last generation? (games that released exclusively to ps4, Xb1, PC. So not games that also released on ps3, 360)
Limited to single player games only, so no multiplayer or co-op as those games lend more to replaying.

Also, did you replay more games then you did the previous generation?

Looking back on last generation I was surprised how few games I replayed compared to on the ps3/360. Maybe it's just the result of getting older, working, having the means to buy more games then before so not having to replay games as much? Probably. Or maybe single player games have also become alot less memorable and worth replaying?

thoughts?

    • Yep it's been that long haha 10yrs! Easy to forget seeing as the games been re-released on every platform since lol

  • +5

    Civ.

    • represent!

  • +2

Total War: Shogun 2 or Three Kingdoms. Only reason I have a gaming PC is to play Total War games.

    • +2

Rome 2 would be my most replayed single player campaign for me. I was about to fire up three kingdoms again the other day but tried the new worlds beta instead.

The X-com series is the only other single player game that comes close to the amount of hours as total war.

      • Mine is Shogun 2, followed by Medievil 2.

As for X-com, I never got back to it. I'm waiting for Midnight Suns to come out in the meanwhile and I'm currently playing Desperados III.

  • +4

STALKER series… I keep coming back to them. Fantastic games if you're into post-apocalyptic games.

    • +1

I picked the series up during the resent steam sale. Plan on playing through them right before the new one comes out. I'm a big fan of the Metro games, so this series looks right up my alley!

      • +1

Same here! Metro and STALKER go hand in hand… if you play them back to back you might feel that Metro is a bit linear compared to STALKER but highly enjoyable nonetheless.

If you're playing STALKER, have a look at some of the complete overhaul mods to make them a bit more modern.

        • +1

Will do! Actually, it's one of the things I usually do anyway when I'm playing older games, open up Nexus Mods and see what's worth installing.

Edit: btw I meant "recent" not resent. God… who resents a steam sale? I mean, apart from your bank account. lol

  • +1

Dark Souls 3. I don't know how many times I've played.

I played DS2 even more, but that was on PS3.

    • I promised myself id clock Dark Souls 1 before moving on to 3, that was about 10 years ago

  • +2

Replayed Witcher 3 three times on PC. My all time favourite game. Spent more than 800 hours in there. Now I’m waiting for the next gen upgrade on XSX to play it again.

    • +1

Same! Going to play it again when the upgrade comes out on my new 65" LG C1. I've had my PC hooked up to it and been playing some AC Valhalla the past few weeks. Looks absolutely incredible. However, after 30hrs, I'm well over Valhalla, playing it just makes me want to go back to Witcher 3 even more lol.

    • Wow 800hrs is alot lol!
I've never played witcher but its on my list of games to play when i one day have time.

Just curious what's the replay value. I've heard it has good plot, graphics and game play.

Its open world so you can spend alot of time or is it more grindy like diablo 3 where you can just keep grinding for loot/exp lol.

      • +2

The replay value basically comes from falling in love with the world and its characters. You ever have that sad feeling when you finish a game that you didn't want to end?

Sure there's also plenty of opportunities to make different choices that change the outcome of quests and even multiple different endings. But I find myself making the same choices anyway because no other ending would feel right for me haha

        • +1

haha that's awesome. Makes me want to check it out even more!
Definitely had that feeling with movies/anime/tv?
Not so much with games mainly because I haven't played enough.

          Any other RPG's you recommend?

          • +2

@gimli: Really depends what kind of RPG your after

Modern action, Story/character focused- Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata

Old school, isometric/tactical, story focused- Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin

Sandbox, exploration, create your own adventure- Elder Scrolls, Fallout

Action/combat focused, challenging- Darksouls, Bloodborne, Nioh

There's heaps more I could recommend haha, but that's a starting point.

            • @OzAmore: Cool a few more to add to my list of games to one day play.

Did you ever play the lord of the rings game (Shadow of mordor?)

      • +1

@OzAmore has said it perfectly. Even in my third play through I stumbled across quests I haven’t done before.
The characters are incredible and very well written. You really connect with them. The quests are some of the best I’ve ever played. There are real choices and real consequences for your actions.
The graphics are amazing. There are times when I’ve spent more than an hour just riding around enjoying the atmosphere.
I can’t praise this game enough. I pirated it at first because I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I loved it so much that I bought it at full price to support the developers. I own the game now on PC, Xbox and Playstation.
It must be pretty obvious by now how much I like this game. You won’t regret playing it.

  • +1

Kerbal Space Program, BattleTech, Resident Evil 7, 2, 8. I might play 3 next. Ark plays well in SP.

I just installed Ace Attorney for the lulz, but I don't enjoy it.

I don't really replay SP campaigns much, there's an endless supply of new games to play and nothing I've played warrants it. I might replay Crisis at some point just to experience it at a decent frame rate.

    • The latest ace attorney is way too slow and too much text compared to previous entries.

  • +3

Last of Us and God of War

  • +2

Lost dutchman mine, dangerous dave. Probably continue to play as long as my XT runs

  • +3

    Modern Warfare 2

    • +2

MW and MW2 campaigns definitely got replayed back in the day!

  • +2

The Batman Arkham series. Went through them a couple of times (had to go back for a second play on max difficulty).

  • +1

    Warblade for PC :-)

  • +2

The Witcher 3, played it through 4 times. Will probably play it through again next year. Was still discovering new things on my 4th playthrough which I more or less did a completionist run.

    • +1

Have you played the 2nd game? I always recommend it to those who enjoyed 3. The writing/quests/characters is just as good as 3! And the exploration & combat is still familiar, albeit less refined. There's a halfway point in the game which branches off into two completely different stories, worth two playthroughs!

  • +2

I beat Dead Space 2, maybe 4-5 times
New Game plus made playing the next difficulty more fun, until I beat the final difficulty.

  • +1

Not last gen but FF8 (4-5 times now) and FF7 (original, 3 times).
Last gen is 13 Sentinnels (twice) and Nier Automata (2x full run throughs).
Another one is Zelda Cadence of Hyrule, I’ve only had one run through so far but will definitely replay multiple times.

  • +2

Fallout 4 would probably be my most replayed. Subnautica as well. 7 Days to Die - not sure if that counts as it's still early release and multiplayer (though I've never played it multiplayer).

  • +2

Metro Exodus. I bought it just wanting some eye candy but just loved it. Really surprised me how much I enjoyed it.

I love the semi-open world. Just big enough to add options, but small enough not to feel intimidating or become a drag to get through.

God of War is also up there. The combat is amazing.

    • +1

Exodus is awesome! One of the most immersive shooters I've played.

One thing that I noticed, that I didn't seem to notice/have an issue as much with in Last Light, was Artyom being a silent protagonist?

There were times when it definitely took me out of it. Wishing he would just say something!

But still, other than that, thoroughly enjoyed the game.

      • +1

Totally agree. I guess it's just a trope of the genre at this point so it didn't bother me, but pretty weird when characters are baring their souls to Artyom and he just says nothing.

  • +3

    Flower - PS4

    • +2

      <3

      Journey fan also?

      • +1

Yeah journey was good, but nothing beats flower. My mates always laugh when I tell them about it. Then they get it once they try it.

    • That's also on PS3 ;)

      • Yep. Played it on the PS3, PS VITA, PS4 and PS5 ;)

  • +1

Is it just me, or does it still feel like "last gen" is PS3 / Xbox 360?

Maybe I'm just falling behind the times!

    • Nah it's definitely fair to feel like that. I mean, it's only been less than 12 months since the new consoles released. Couple that with the fact that most people can't even get their hands on one and still own a PS4/XB1.

      • And PS4 era gfx are still very impressive. The lines are quite blurry between that gen and this gen so far.

  • +1

probably diablo3 and skyrim on PC
    pokemon if allowed

realmofthemadgod (i've been back to it a few times over the years thankfully not in the last few)

  • +2

Probably a controversial choice, but the original Watch Dogs was the most fun I've ever had in a game

Storyline is all over the place, but nothing I've played since has matched the gameplay, especially the online modes like Invasion

Sequels are fun but don't have the same GTA with hacking energy; they've replaced the ridiculous grunge and angst with bright-faced political activism, and replaced the ridiculous violence with puzzles and planning

For non-AAA, I'd say FTL. Beating the game on hard with every ship was one of the hardest achievements I've faced

    • I've recommended this above to someone else who mentioned FTL - try out HighFleet. Just came out in July. Popped up on my Steam discovery queue and a few of the reviews mentioned "immersive" and "FTL" so my interest was piqued. Bought it and immediately lost 6 hours of my life. Quite something!

  • +1

Dying Light, Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry 4 and before that Metal Gear Rising, Fallout 3 / New Vegas

  • +1

Played a lot of a small indie game called State of Decay 2, exclusive to Xbox and on Game Pass. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic zombie settings. It can be a buggy mess sometimes but the gameplay loop is addictive. Re-installed again recently due to a new update with more content.

  • +1

    Hollow Knight

  • +1

    Duke Nukem 3D

  • +1

    Diablo 3

  • +2

    Civ6

  • +1

Dragon age origins and metro last light /2033. Probably 5 times. Oh actually Diablo 2 but that's over like 20 years

  • +1

    AoE2

  • +2

    Uncharted 4

  • +1

CoD: MW 1 played it on all difficulties and finished it

  • +3

None. I almost never replay games. Too many other ones to move on to

  • +2

    Zelda BOTW on WiiU

  • +1

    System shock 2

  • +1

    Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

  • +1

Bloodborne, I replay it 3 times to get the platinum. Second was faster, third don't even have memory of it… A lot of fun as it was 90% coop with a friend

  • +2

There really wasnt as many top tier AAA singleplayer games last gen. Back in the Xbox 360 days you would get 5-10 legendary AAA single player games each year. Just look at 2007/2008 for example.

I spent a lot more time in PUBG, Overwatch, Company of Heros 2 multiplayer last gen.

But the single player games I have replayed the most have been:
    Resident Evil 2 Remake
    Rise of the Tomb Raider.
    Mario Odyssey
    Bayonetta 2

Special mention to Forza Horizon 4. Which I need to spend more time in. Last of Us 2 and RDR2 were very impressive and had great first playthroughs. Breath of the Wild I loved the first time through, but I just don't enjoy replaying it as much as OOT, MM, WW, TP and SS.

A lot of the games I want to replay from last gen I have struggled to return to and am waiting for 60 FPS updates for the PS5/Series X. Red Dead 2 for example.

    • +1

      OOT, MM

What's the best version in your opinion? I haven't played these but want to.
I don't have a N64 so I'm thinking either Wii VirtualConsole (the N64 version) on a CRT, or the remakes on 2DS XL.

      • +1

I personally like Majoras Mask more then Ocarina. I think the story, music and characters are more memorable. But both are perfect games to me.

I would definitely play it on either the 3DS/2DS or a emulator paired with a controller to get a better FPS or HD textures if you really wanted it. The 17-20FPS is really painful on the N64, virtual console or windwaker bonus disc.

        • Thanks. I'll see what Citra can do

  • +1

Wow no one…. Okay I will say it.
    Hitman

  • +1

Red Dead Redemption 1, 2, and Undead Redemption.

  • +2

Heroes 3 of might & magic

  • +1

Witcher 3, metal gear phantom pain and GTA5. Currently on my 4th play of Witcher, 5th metal gear and 3rd GTA5. As my PC hardware improves over the years, I keep replaying to experience them all shiny and new.

  • +1

I don't think I replayed a single game last gen… I could probably go back to RDR2… think those days are behind me unfortunately.

  • +1

Breath of the Wild is easily the most played single player only game for me from the past few years. I can open it up and play 20mins, or 2 hours just wandering around defeating enemies etc. Love it.

  • +1

Most plays, TLOU. Usually only play games the once. Besides 7 years of Destiny.

  • +1

FH2. Still play it until today.

  • +2

never replayed (except for the old master system/mega drive games). Too many games backlogged that I only just finished last week Mass Effect 3. Hoping to move onto a current-generation game soon.

  • +1

    Nier Automata

Great story, love the combat and the OST is amazing.

  • +1

Yakuza series - half way through my second playthrough of all the games - this time all substories
    Xenoblade - about 3 times
    Witcher 3 - twice 100% playthroughs

  • +1

For me, its Neighbours from Hell and Oni. Also. Fifa / PES or any sport games for that matter.

  • +1

    Civ V

  • +1

Breath Of The Wild on WiiU

  • +1

    Portal 2

    • +1

Yes! Great idea that is now this evening's plan.

      • +1

        It's a beautiful story.

  • +3

    Half Life
    FEAR
    Doom
    Quake
    Unreal
    Limbo
    Inside

  • +1

I don't often go back and play through games, but both Breathe of the Wild (on Wii U, so technically last gen) and Subnautica were probably the games that I invested the most time into. I actually did go back and replay the three main Arkham games, so honourable mention to those.

  • +1

Bit older than last gen but two games I still play through every year or so are Battlezone 1 (2 is also great) and the OG red faction. Both are back from when single player story lines were actually good and both had game mechanics that even modern day games do achieve. Graphics are the trade off though obviously despite modern HD remasters.

  • +1

Well, I'm about to start my second play through of Persona 5 Royal, and given the time I spent on the first one (~140 hours), I say it would be this, by the time I'm done…

  • +2

    Company of Heroes + expansions

  • +1

Metro exodux series, mass effect series and hitman series. A lot of hours immerse into the storyline for me

RDR2 was pretty fun along with Witcher close second

  • +2

I rarely replay games but I have replayed Persona 4 Golden and Nier Automata quite a few times. Yearly thing.

  • +2

Witcher 3, The Last of Us, Persona 5 (especially if you include Royal with it), RDR2, Skyrim/Fallout, Dragon Age/Mass Effect

For me Witcher 3 is one of those games you always revisit after a year or two. The DLC, especially Blood and Wine, was fantastic

The Last of Us always hits hard every time and in my opinion the most well written storyline out of a AAA game

RDR2's world and storyline alone is good enough to go back to even though some of its mechanics are clunky

Persona 5 is a great game all around with an awesome soundtrack

Dragon Age/Mass Effect are games I go back to often as well but quality wise doesn't quite hit the same heights as Witcher and RDR

  • +1

    Final Fantasy Tactics

  • +2

Bloodborne. I think I got up to NG+6.
I was already on NG+5 when the DLC came out. Made notoriously hard DLC even harder.

  • +1

Dishonored, Just Cause 3, Skyrim, Kerbal Space Program, FTL, Broforce, Pokemon.

  • +1

    Dark Souls / Demon Souls.

  • +1

Ive played the mass effect series a couple of times, that counts for like 6 games worth lol

Im recently doing my first every play through of ocarina of time, heard its supposed to be good :P

    • Definitely play it on either the 3DS/2DS or a emulator paired with a controller to get a better FPS or HD textures if you really wanted it. The 17-20FPS is really painful on the N64, virtual console or windwaker bonus disc.

      • Yup already doing that ;)

Tried playing on 3ds but got a sore neck and back after a few days (didnt seem to be a problem when i was a kid lol)

Im using the citra 3ds emulator to play it now with an xbox one controller for pc. It looks really good at 10x original resolution!

Being able to instant save/load is also really handy, im not sure whos genius decision it was to have link start off every game load from his house back in the forest…
