Flashforge Finder Lite 3D Printer at Jaycar

I'm looking for a beginner-friendly 3d printer for my son.
Is this a good buy and good 3d printer to start with?
Has anyone tried this?

thanks in advance for your input.

Don't have experience personally with that model, but it does not look promising! With that budget, would recommend something tried and tested like an Ender 3.

    • Or even the Ender 3 Max!

      • thanks for your reply, is Ender 3 good for beginner?
I don't want to be the one doing it all for him, I want him to learn it on his own :)

        • what year level is your son and how mechanically/diagnostically minded is he?

          • @highon2str: He's year 7,
I don't know how to answer your second question maybe mechanically/diagnostically=3/10? :)
He is interested in making his own toy (action figure)

Guess, I will guide him in the beginning if it's really difficult but even I have no experience in 3d printer

@Rockinrowl: It is not difficult but can be quite time consuming and there is a fair bit to experiment and learn from! It would be a great activity to learn together, he will probably need some help!

Heaps of websites out there and youtube reviews on the Ender 3 and various 3D printing tutorials. Would recommend watching a few of them to decide if 3D printing is for you and your son.

I would avoid JayCar just on principle

    • why? I bought some electronic materials before at jaycar and everythings fine

Their stuff all is incredibly overpriced for what it is. And their past behavior has been poor.

just watched it, that's f***d up, I won't buy from Jaycar again, thanks for sharing this

I think lots of people here boycott Jaycar because they knocked off some person's kit and repackaged it as their own. You can search for it. Pretty douchebag stuff.

I dodge Jaycar because IMO they generally sell overpriced rubbish and the things that are good are usually available elsewhere for cheaper. Plus I thought the now deceased owner (don't know who owns them now - the family?) had some pretty overt neocon opinions - reminds me of Gerry Harvey and mates - would rather not support.

It looks like an easy to use printer. However, 140x140x140 is a very small print volume. I would also recommend the Ender 3 V2 if you have the budget. Quite easy to use, quite easy to assemble, great community support if ever needed. Very reliable especially once you get it going right.

Feel free to PM me before you buy, if you do that, I'd be happy to work with you to help get setup smoothly. :-)

    Recommend Ender3 too, as above.

The real issue is that 3D printing still kinda sucks, and it is very very tinker-y. If you get a different filament than the last time, you'll prob have to change some settings. If you print a vastly different model design and something screws up, you're gonna have to play with settings to fix it. We are most definitely not at the level where you can press a button and get cool stuff printed out all day every day.

The Ender3 recommendation is also because you have to assemble it, which will help cement that this is a creative tool and not a magic box. It will take a bunch of learning and tinkering and is a hands-on hobby.

The distinct advantages of Ender3 over what you linked (from experience):
    - Open design, easier to get at components if there's problems
    - Heated bed - anything less and it's 50/50 on if your print will stick or end up like spaghetti
    - Ender3 has huge 3rd party catalogue of parts, upgrades, help guides, firmware, etc etc. Very well-known printer in the market

    Yeah get an Ender 3,

At this price point its hard to beat, it has a humongous user base online which is great when your trying to solve whatever issue that crops up.

As others said 3D printers require a fair bit of tinkering its not a set and forget there is lots of variables that change for each print. This is not a great toy if you dont have a Creative and patient mindset.
