Not sure how they do it

It's called clearing stock because it was just 30°C today. Not to be the fun police but we're in our 12th week of lockdown, I hope you weren't just browsing for potential bargains and actually had a purpose for going there..

      Oh give it up

Yeah you're right, I've given up on this country (or at least this city) and its people who think they are immune and can't spread it.

As for a reduced heater from the reject shop, you wouldn't even need COVID this would probably finish you off.

I guess people that don't care about COVID or public health also don't care about sending this to landfill in a couple of months either.

it's also called not-winter, so why would anyone have any need for a heater?
heck, even in Melbourne people don't need heaters, so they'd just be clearing stock (likely to replace them with cooling fans)

might be worth picking one up for next year, but ehhh

Nope, it's 10C now at 4:30pm here in Inner SE Melbourne and I have put 2 heaters around me

        • Crikey you must love power bills!

      • +2

Ah well, it’s a legit bargain.

    which store?

I don’t think a heater is something I want to be cheaping out on. I’d like for my house not to burn down just because I tried to save a few dollars.

    • +1

They should be up to Australian standards

      • +3

        Key word: should

        • +1

Exactly, and these heaters are shit.

Our work bought these as a stop gap one winter when the central heating broke for people near their desks.

Half of them lasted barely a few weeks. One started sparking. Threw the whole lot out.

Cheap heater from a store called the reject shop what could possibly go wrong ;)

    • Use it as a toaster then

  • +2

We bought two of these during winter and they both failed after 3-4 months.
Very cheap but also very temporary

    • +3

      How? What broke?

I had similar heaters for many years. Not much to break is there? I still have them but don't use them in the home anymore (have better options now) but I do use them for load testing inverters, batteries, etc.

      • First one, then the second element gave up after a few months, perhaps eight weeks total. Happened to two units.
These were just foot warmer heaters near the desk at home. I don't know if it was a bad batch at my local Reject shop but they were fine about taking them back

        • Pretty crap. I imagine at the prices they're going for the QC would be minimal but still.

Could even be elements intended for another market (110V?) accidentally got in? Many years ago I bought a Sony digital alarm clock, lost about four hours on the first day day. Returned it, got another, same. It was only years later I figured out this was a 50/60Hz mix-up - they inadvertently sold American clocks here.

This is a space heater? Can I use it (outdoors) to warm up food?
