Just found this great deal online, exclusive for users in Germany (UPDATE: *VPN not required).

Just go to the link and browse the page down to "Konto erstellen". Complete with name, surname, e-mail, and password.

You don't have to tick any boxes. The first is "show the password" and the second is the newsletter.

You will be redirected to a new page where you can change the language to English. There you can access your info and download the software.

F-Secure is one of the best AV softwares today. Solid and competent company from Finland. The software uses multiple engines and virus databases.

If you don't have a decent AV software installed yet, that's your chance.

  Virustotal is not an AV software. Virustotal is a project, an aggregator:

  Beware that VT findings don't always reflect reality. Sometimes one particular AV doesn't detect a malware on VT, but the software actually detects it. This happens because of the way how solutions (engines, databases) are implemented.

  How good is F-Secure against other internet security applications such as Kaspersky etc?

    I used it a few years ago, good BUT…
    I uploads many, many Megs of data almost every day. Their tech support said that was part of the User Agreement and couldn't be prevented.
    I remember finding the server and blocking it with a firewall…. problem solved.

      I don't know about that but my computer only accessed the update server since installation.

      Currently, the "product improvement personalized usage data" is opt-in (off after installation). Not sure if that was different in the past.

    Kaspersky and F-Secure are probably the best AV softwares at the moment, according to.. Me I wouldn't look any further.

    Most AVs should be able to do it now. It's easier to identify old popular threats.
