  • Hey OP or anyone else who have used one - any experience on use of it pet dander/fur? I had a Xiaomi 3H and loved it but it died a horrible death so looking at a different model now (mainly because the 3H is out of stock almost everywhere I looked)

    • have had a 2S for a few years with no issues, how did yours manage to die?

      • Starting making some heinous rattling noises + some noises even when the unit was switched off. Other than that the unit was great, think mine just turned into a dud. If I can't find a 3H at a decent price soon (Kogan have a presale, but Kogan and presales aren't fun) I might bite the bullet on this one for bedroom and get a Xiaomi for main lounge etc down the track

        • Prices seem inflated right now. Got mine off Kogan for 179 a month ago but now they’re 239.

        • Did yours make a high pitched whining sound when off? Thinking of returning mine.

          • @dajackal: That's what started it all. Apparently it's a little fan in the back sensor area. Found a lot of people had complaints about that one which drove me up the wall. But then the main fan started screeching too, and a lot louder. When it was working fine the unit was great though

            • @MBix: I found that the high pitched whine is coming from the wall adapter. Did you get that too?
Any point getting a replacement or should I request a refund?

              • @dajackal: What kind of adapter are you talking about? Mine came with a lead that goes straight into the wall without adapter?

                • @MBix: The AC wall plug has a transformer built in. Is yours different? Makes a high pitched whining sound that's really irritating.

If yours doesnt do that then must be just mine, in which case I'll try to get a replacement.

                  • @dajackal: Yeh mine was just a standard cord that went from the machine to the wall, maybe we had differing versions?

Fyi Choice rated this one poorly.

      • Did they explain why? Any insight you can provide? I've only had a great experience with it so far, particularly given how compact it is.

        • Because apparently it's not good at filtering.

          Dust performance score: 29%
          Smoke performance score: 28%
          VOC performance score: 13%

The Xiaomi 3H gets around 60% for Dust/Smoke, and some Samsung/Philips have gotten ~80%.

          • @murkywater: I wonder if it has to do with the unit size: 3H is 240 x 240 x 520 mm vs Breville Easy Air Purifier 194 x 194 x 302 mm ie. ~37% smaller

For me that's one of the major attractions to this Breville model, how compact it was.

Did they do any comparisons to the other bigger Breville models?

    • The room that I use it have two rabbits. Which means lots of fur + hay. So far so good. It has been working well since jan/2021. very silent.

      • Appreciated! Thanks mate

Also I vaccuum it at least once a month, vaccum the outside of the device and the filter inside (as reccomended in its user manual). Funny fact: when my wife is cooking something and it smells a lot, the sensors detect the smell and increase the fan speed, getting rid of the smell in the room. pretty nice.

  • How much do the filters cost to replace?

    • $55

      • Thanks, seems to be the average cost of filters for Xiaomi, and a few others (generally $50-$60 from recent research).

        • Any ideas how long they last for?

          • +1

@dajackal: I think it depends on how badly they get soiled/dirty. Most can last up to a year, with regular cleaning/vacuuming of the actual filter, otherwise 6 months if you're in really polluted areas with bush fires, smog, etc.

  • Factor in a set of spare filters in the cost.

I have an old sharp purifier still going steong but as it’s discontinued can’t buy replacement filters that fit anymore.

Although unit still works it’s slowly becoming less and less effective only because there aren’t any aftermarket filters comparable.

Stupid question do these things reduce the amount of dust that gets on household items?

    • Technically it should.

Our bedroom has one, very nice and you do "smell fresh clean air".
My partner has sinuses, if left off during the night her nose is f in the morning.
I have no allergies but I noticed that without it, next morning my nose is a mehh

It does have a night option, it is ultra-quiet but won't filter as much tho.
We got used to leaving it on a medium speed which does filter but is a little bit noisy that way. Not a big tho.

  • Does this help to reduce the likelihood of hay fever?

  • I've had two of these, both with a fan rattle that you can hear when listening above the top vent and especially at night, gets louder the faster the fan goes. Second one same issue. I'm going to return to good guys for a refund and try something else.

Can anyone else with the Breville unit hear some fan rattle? its not really loud but its annoying. Maybe my store has a bad batch…

    • Did yours make a high pitched whining sound when off? Thinking of returning mine.
Mine does rattle a little but way less annoying than the whining electrical noise

No, just the grinding bearing sound. Good Guys have been fine with returns.

        • thanks I returned mine
