COTD Acer APD255 - 3G problem

Hey guys,

This shout goes out to all the ozbargainers that who have participated in this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62238

After upgrading to windows 7 ultimate I thought the laptop was working like a charm because I never had the use for the 3G modem. Last week, after popping in a sim and starting 3G connection manager the program failed to start because it said "no 3g device detected"

Following the talk to Acer technical support they said the default driver that came preinstalled on the laptop may be different to the one listed on their website. My guess is, that it is different because the one offered here is not working for me. http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=2987

My only choice was to return the laptop to acer for reflashing which will put me $109 out of pocket. This is hardly viable to me as the laptop was only $180. To make matters worse I deleted the recovery partition while installing the new windows OS.

Could anyone please extract the Ericsson F5521gw driver from their own recovery partition or offer me another solution ?

Thanks guys :)

    • Thanks Tony,

All the links are purple because I've been there before. Supposedly Lenovo sticks the same modem into their devices but I can't use Lenovo's driver because it checks if your machine is a Lenovo before it installs.
I can't find any support for it on the Erisson website either :(

Looks like I'll wait for windows 8 and see if there's a fix

  • Have you tried the drivers from Toshiba located here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=3gdownloads

    • I never saw that while scouring the internet. It looks very promising. Thanks mate

  • Toshiba drivers installed but the device is still not recognised. Starting to think I got a faulty device

Please download and link to the page generated or perhaps just tell me what it says the hardware section.
