IKEA MALM Double Bed Mattress Fitment Help/Suggestions

Hi, bought this bed from this deal. I was after a mattress but was surprised to see that IKEA sizing is different. It's only 3 cm smaller than standard in width and 1cm longer in length.

Has anyone used a non-ikea mattress on that frame with success or should I just go for an Ikea mattress?

EDIT - Anyone used a ZZZ- Atelier on it?

Thanks in advance

  • It's only 3 cm smaller than standard in width and 1cm longer in length.

It still fits non-ikea mattresses perfectly fine. I use a tempur mattress on mine.

    • Thanks heaps, do you know which setting the slats are installed at (on the highest/lowest)?

      • That depends on the thickness of the mattress. I've got mine on the lower setting because I've got a thick mattress.

        • oh, so the mattress actually sits inside the area?I thought it would be sitting a bit out.

I built the frame today and found out that it was the size state before.

What like is the bed malm that op posted any good? it’s for our daughter room who is 12 in 6 months, wife was looking at this one.

But it’s a good bit more in cost and it has a large area under bed to store stuff.
But i thought with the mattress on top on display in ikea it was pretty heavy to lift up and I would be worried this be the weak point of the bed lifting it up and down over time.

I think wife was looking at queen size so she does not have to buy ikea mattress to fit bed she can buy elsewhere?
The malm as op posted was a lot less but can add drawers to put under bed.

Daughter was saying she like to put led lights around her bed at bottom, I did notice one made from a company online who sells one with led bull in but the fake leather puts me off,and would probably fall part after a few years.
Least with ikea one it’s wood.

Was also thinking of fantastic furniture but not sure what like there beds are these days.
