[PC] Free - Syberia & Syberia II @ Steam

4390

Free for a limited time. Both were free on GOG in July.

Syberia

Kate Walker, a young ambitious lawyer from New York, is handed what seems a fairly straight forward assignment - a quick stopover to handle the sale of an old automaton factory hidden in the alpine valleys, then straight back home to the US.

Little did she imagine when embarking on this task that her life would be turned upside down. On her expedition across Europe, traveling from Western Europe to the far reaches of Eastern Russia, she encounters a host of incredible characters and locations in her attempt to track down Hans, the genius inventor - the final key to unlock the mystery of Syberia. Her voyage across land and time throws all she values into question, while the deal she sets out to sign turns into a pact with destiny.

Syberia II

Having searched Eastern and Western Europe for a missing heir, Kate Walker finally completed her long and arduous journey, obtaining the signature of Hans Voralberg and closing the automaton factory buyout. Mission accomplished? Not for this sophisticated New York lawyer…

This is a very underrated game. I wouldn't pay much attention to the reviews, if you're interested in old school adventure games that is.

  • People who loves to wallow in nostalgia, these are great ways to do it. Ahh… the memories of playing these fine (great) games brings a smile to my face. Kate, Oscar, Hans and those little munchkins.

Syberia is a classic! Syberia II is not too bad, Syberia III though, keep away with a Covid-like distance.

    • Sadly I hit a bug about 2/3 of the way through Syberia 3 and just gave up…
Still excited for the new one though

      • brave you made it that far! ;)

Nice. First time free on Steam. Both games were previously free giveaways on GOG in July 2021 and Indiegala in February 2021 Siberia & Siberia II.

  • thanks peepz.

  • Thank you

These game were hard when you couldn't Google the solution

When use to play Sierra's "Betrayal at Krondor" to get help you had to ring them and go through a series of "dial 3"…

      • Was so happy by the time I got into these sort of games GameFaqs was born. Back in the day accidentally going to GamesFaq instead lands you on a porn site.

  • Fantastic games. So much fun (as an unabashed adventure game fan)

  • Just finished the first one from the GOG giveaway. There are some great things about the game including the set designs and the simplicity of the UI.

On the other hand, on a small scale, if you want to feel what a baby feels learning everything for the first time and why things don't work together, this game captures that essence. Sometimes the pathway will need a weird or nonsensical approach which doesn't align with logic. This may be a hallmark of the genre. Like a lot of good old games, they're brilliant to the people who played it when it came out but prepare to be underwhelmed if you're playing it the first time 20 years after release.

So many games in my Steam library now and no idea what I have.

Likewise - one day I'll just give my library to my kids and they'll be so confused.

    • feels like im too dumb to learn how to play new games

      • LOL I have this problem. Opened Witcher 3 for 30 minutes and gave up. Looked great, I just couldn't get my head around the learning curve.

        • I love learning new games, but sometimes, numbers and descriptions in rpgs scares me. I opened darkest dungeon, and they have percentage, and I just closed it there, saying I'll learn another day lol.

          • @Wonderfool: Love that game. It's more grindy than it is hard to learn, though.

  • Thanks for the wishlist tip!

  • Cheers!
