    • That’s what she said

I wonder if Razer etc. are starting to sweat about the Steam Deck. I realize it's a different thing, but it's similar enough for consumers to consider as an alternative product and 1/3 of the price of gaming laptops.

    • I mean the Steam Deck is an open platform, they could just make their own version.

    • Sorry for the dumb question but how will Steam Deck work? And what will the pricing be?

    • 1/3 price of gaming laptop and also 1/3 of the performance you can get from gaming laptop.

You pay for what you get I guess. Not to mention you can do alot more with a laptop than a steam deck in terms of productivity stuff.

    Wish I can afford this…

    Early 2021 model with 100w TGP. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Razer-Blade-Pro-17-Early-2021-…

Just wanted to inform if someone is looking for this info.

    • +5

This is important info for casual buyers - laptop 3070's and 3080's are NOT created equal at all.
A fully powered 3060 has the potential to beat a low powered (TGP) 3080 for example.

Jarrod's tech has some good laptop reviews - I recommend those looking at the final benchmark section. The legion 7 for example, is a the full 150w TGP with a boost to 165w, which is why it performs right up the top.

  • Can someone help me decide on which one to get please? This razor or Legion7

Razer would have a smaller form factor

      • +2

It is worth keeping in mind that this razer only has a Nvidia RTX 3080 8GB vs the Legion's Nvidia RTX 3080 16GB of VRAM

Doesn't really matter as this panel is Full HD, but worth keeping in mind

This one has thunderbolt which legion doesn't (that killed that deal for me). This one also has an older processor (from last year) compared to the 5900hx in legion (https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-10875H-v…). Benchmarks aren't everything so I'm told but I guess gives an indication? The other thing is that this one has slower memory but I don't know how much that matters..

Overall it seems the legion has better specs.

    • The Razer GPU 100W has much lower performance compare to Legion which runs at 165w! I think it is about 40% difference?

  • +1

This seems like a killer machine, but I notice the memory is only 2933MHz where some of the highend stuff I've seen was 3200MHz. Does it matter? I.e. Is it noticeable in performance?

    • +2

a mere 300mhz difference will result in 1% or fewer differences in gaming.

  • Very tempting, I'm looking for another 17 inch gaming laptop, somebody tell me why i shouldn't buy this ?! haha

3080 paired with a 1080p panel is useless IMO, I understand it is 360hz which is awesome, but the majority of games don't even touch that high of frames.

This Razer laptop has 8gb of VRAM on its 3080 vs 16GB of VRAM on 3080s in similar laptops.

If this was the QHD screen version would have been an instant buy for me.

      • +2

In laptop form-factor, the 3080 probably isn't a full-fat 3080 but I'd still say that it's well paired with the 360hz screen as you'll most certainly need a decent GPU to drive a game up to that frame-rate @ 1080p.

      • I agree, thanks for your comment, the 300hz screen was such a gimmick on my MSI GS66 Stealth, I sold that piece of trash of a laptop (not because of the screen)

Remember to do your homework! The Razer subreddit is full of bloated-battery reports across the entire product range.

i looked at this laptop for a week and decided to go with a legion 5 pro instead.

few things that drove me away

    • high price
    • 300hz on a 1080p ( wont utilise all of it for 99% of the games)
    • lower ram speeds
    • last gen cpu
    • lower wattage to GPU

end up getting a legion pro 5 with 5800H with RTX 3070 for $2192.11 (after cash back and edu discount)

    • +1

Did you bargain with a rep to get this price? I ended up getting a 5i Pro with RTX 3070 for $2475. Looks like I paid a lot more…. Except this would ship soon compared to a 8 week waiting period with amd

      • +1

yeah i did it came down abit
theres also cashrewards of 7% which helps

i wanted an AMD CPU so dont mind the extra wait i guess

  • Looking at getting the 15'' OLED 4k model instead - any recommendation?

NEVER EVER! buy a gaming laptop without knowing the TDP of its GPU, no matter what the price. If this is a a 100 watt TDP 3080 then it will be easily outperformed by a much much cheaper 140 watt 3070 laptop. No TDP, no buy! Otherwise you are being ripped off.

The best laptops are usually 120 watts-ish for Rtx 3060, 140 watts for Rtx 3070, 165 watts for Rtx 3080 laptop.

    • +1

      Agree. Laptop manufacture getting dodgy

  • Won't even think about a Razer if you after a long term ownership, you will damn regret buying it, with lots of batteries issues, plus only 100w TDP, this is really a ripoff, and remember that the whole body is finger print magnet, spending over $3k and end up with all these problems plus sh|tty customer support, i won't do that … I'd rather go with Alienware or even Gigabyte A7 X1, at least they have much higher TDP for gaming and cheaper too !!! But I m sure there'll lots of Razer fanboys will donate their cash.
