Retroarch in Xbox One/Series Retail Mode Free (Normally Requires $20 Dev Subscription and Console in Dev Mode)

1260

This was popular last year.

The original person doing the work is still developing Retroarch, but stopped adding new accounts to the whitelist (hence the previous deal was expired). Since then someone has started whitelisting again. So those that missed out last time can join the fun.

Xbox One consoles can play from NES up to PS1 games.

Xbox Series consoles can play from NES up to DreamCast, GameCube/Wii and limited PS2.

Basically you're making Xbox a RetroPie killer for free.

Instructions:

  1. Complete this form https://forms.gle/uigzj4RAUZw3pU839
  2. Check the gamr13s-announcements Discord room here to see when the next batch of Xbox accounts have been whitelisted (he generally does it every day).
  3. Once your account is whitelisted, go to https://gamr13.github.io using Edge on the Xbox and click on each to install the apps.
  4. Use the FTP app to copy over the required BIOS files and Roms (obviously these can't be linked to here and you should legally own these to do so).
    Enjoy.

Make sure you check out DuckStation (either standalone or in Retroarch). Even the OG Xbox One can upscale PS1 game to 1080p at 60fps. It looks gorgeous.

Ignorant people were reporting the deal last time. To be clear from the start, Retroarch and Duckstation are open source.

I got the whitelist thing within discord but when I go to install the applications it just goes to a blank page on the Xbox app store. I can only assume I haven't got the whitelist yet.

    • That’s what I’m assuming, will try again tomorrow

      • I added my address yesterday and it's working fine today 💪

        • So I used my email address that my XBox account is linked to … should I have done something else? I can access all the Discord threads and the download page, but it just dead ends when it goes to the Xbox store.

@chops: Your accessing the links on your Xbox directly right? Not on computer or phone.

            • @PainToad: The download links yes … I filled out the white list form and registered on discord via an iPad … then went to discord via Edge on Xbox to access the download links - right?

@chops: This https://gamr13.github.io/ link in Edge on your Xbox?

                • @PainToad: Thanks, I was linking a page from within discord that went to the apps, as soon as I used this address it worked … addresses are very similar, I think the one I was trying was retail.

Did you enter the right email address? You could ask in the help room.

  • @PainToad Just came back here to thank you for this. Was finally able to set it up and it is absolutely brilliant!

No worries. But I'm didn't do any of this, just the messenger :)

I know but you still took the time to post this here and explain how to get it working. Love your work mate. Cheers.

  • When I click the all the actual button where install would be spins!

    Any idea? :)

    • Check you have the right download page - see my posts above

      • Anyone else with this issue, it was quite an easy fix!

Just had to refresh the edge browser

  • On the gamr13s-announcements, I just get a message saying I don't have permission to view the message history. What am I missing? (I registered a few days ago)

You need to press the tick at the bottom of the message in the rules page

      • Thanks so much!!! Obviously need to read a bit more thoroughly.

I registered on Thursday - is it likely I would have been whitelisted - is there any way to tell aside from trying to install?

        • It's likely already done, he doesn't personally let you know just sends a message saying whitelists have been added, try get it if not just sign up again and wait for the next whitelist added message

    Retro pie killer. LOL

    • What’s funny? It will destroy even a RPi4.

Unless your comparing it to a PC running RetroPie.

Bragging that anything can 'kill' a $40 single board computer is funny

        • A complete setup of a retropie based system running on a RPi4 costs a lot more than $49.

Will this work on my Gameboy OG to play Series X games?

  • This is on their page now…
