    • Can someone confirm that the accuracy of this product is similar to Zacurate?

Can you confirm that the accuracy of Zacurate?

        • +3

I have the Zacurate 500DL, and can confirm the pulse measurement matches all my other HR monitors.

@damion: Thanks but what about oxygen readings which is likely what people would want this for?

            • @Captain Hindsight: I don't have any other pulse oximeters to compare to, but the device uses the same led measurements to measure pulse as well as oximetery, so it seems related.
The values I get seem reasonable and normal according to my basic knowledge of Sp/O2.

              • @damion: There are two main types of consumer spo2 monitors on the market. Those with and without perfusion index readings. Without a perfusion index, you have no idea if the spo2 measurement is inaccurate or otherwise because at low PI there's not enough information to identify oxygen saturation levels. At low PI, most cheap monitors return high SPO2 readings.

        • +3

          I think it's very zaccurate.

        • +4

Obviously Zaccurate is more accurate than Zacurate, which is only acurate.

    • +2

Doesn't appear to be identical, the ebay special is larger.

    • +1

The third photo in that listing shows the label "Pulse Oximeter" upside down on the screen compared to all the other photos! Clearly photochopped.

But then again, these devices have been around for a long while, so they are very cheap to manufacture and are reasonably accurate for non-medical use.

Obviously if you were planning to use this to determine when to go to the hospital, then you would want something that is reputable.

      • You can rotate its display so it is NOT 'Clearly photochopped'. I have one of these and confirm that.

        • I meant the white printed text. Not the LCD display.

      Neg seems a bit harsh.
You linked a different product from a different brand. It may be similar or it may not but we don't know. Some are more accurate than others
I personally bought the Zacurate 500E a few weeks ago in the off chance one of my unvaccinated kids catch covid.

For those considering getting one, this article is a good read about accuracy and limitations of these cheap oximeters.
      https://www.medpagetoday.com/opinion/skeptical-cardiologist/…

      TLDR;
Make sure you know how to use one before you need to depend on it.
They are all accurate enough when O2 >93%. Once it drops below that, accuracy varies.
If someone has covid and the cheap oximeter measures <93% consistently, it's probably time to call an ambulance.

  • Thanks for posting this deal OP. I paid $25.99 for the Zacurate Pro 500DL model 6 weeks ago. I intend to build immunity to covid the old-fashioned way, so that's why I thought this would come in handy. (Along with my horse de-wormer purchased on ebay :P)

I had similar device when I contracted covid, it helps monitor my breathing, thanks to this little device I am still alive, got sent to hospital when my SpO2 down to 88 and heart rate to 144.

Hope you are doing well now and recovered. Did hospital gave you any treatment?

        • +17

Thanks, I am well recovered now after 5 nights in hospital. They treated me with anti viral, Steroids, anti biotic and anti blood clotting. Took me 3 weeks to recover.. Very very bad experience.. 🥵

  • Just buy oxygen

      Ozbargainers just hyperventilate.

    • +1

why buy ? just split H2O into oxygen

      • +1

And run your car on the H2?

This is how accurate these are

    • i have the ebay one and just tested it with a pen and it turned off. the heart rate matches my fitbit too. what's going on here?

      • +1

I have a zaccurate and it turns off with pens as well.
However, I do know someone who recently bought a very cheap smartwatch off the internet somewhere, which has the leds on the back to measure HR, and it constantly just makes up values, whether on his wrist or not.

        • +1

I have cheap one from Aliexpress, it's turns off with pens as well. it's realy accurate.

      • +1

I tested my Zacurate 500DL Pro with a variety of pens. Most of them don't sense anything and turn off. There was one pen that seemed to give a pulse due to it being silver and reflective, but instead of giving a reading, it showed an error code, "Et7".

The fact is that when there's no occlusion of light, the SpO2 monitor will actually read at 84/85%. This is because it detects the ratio of absorbance of 2 wavelengths of light that oxygenated and deoxygenated haemoglobin will absorb in the body. So when the ratio is 1 i.e. equal absorbance across air, the SpO2 compares that ratio to a known algorithm (calculated from healthy volunteers) and that is actually 85% oxygenated haemoglobin as well. So, an SpO2 monitor that is held open to air or across an object that won't absorb the 2 wavelengths that is expects to be, will read 85% sats. This doesn't actually mean it's giving a false number.
In saying that, the accuracy of these monitors may be good for a trend on the same person, same finger, same environment as people have used previously while unwell at home with COVID, but a single data point may have questionable accuracy.

    Don't buy accurate.
    Buy Zacurate.

  • This or the new Apple Watch?

    • +3

Depends on how much you want to spend for the same result.

  • Got one of these on my samsung phone. No idea of the accuracy.

  • +1

I'd recommend this one I got on Aliexpress at a similar price but possibly more accurate as it has some evidence supporting its performance.

Use a variety of these at the hospital. They all work but prefer these ones which gives a few more display options

    • Mine is similar to that, but still do not know what PI% means.

      • +1

        Perfusion index.

      • +3

Monitors with perfusion index help you identify how accurate the SPO2 reading is. The higher the PI, the more reliable the spo2 reading. Below about 1.4% PI indicates the reading isn't reliable.

        • Thank you!

This looks exactly like the one sold on the Oxygen Advantage website here:

    https://oxygenadvantage.com/oximeter/

Good book if you're training. I may pick one of these up, would be useful with the exercises it prescribes.
