Asus RT-AX58U Options?

Hi all.
Purchased the Asus rt ax58u on a spur from a deal posted. I was going to open and install it today, but am having second thoughts. My current router Linksys 6900 works ok, never had any issues.

Will i notice a big improvement in? Or return it?

Cheers

  • We need more details. How fast is your nbn speed? Do you have laptops, phones and so on with Wi-Fi 6? Do you have Wi-Fi range problems with the Linksys?

  • 100/20 FTTP

    PC and TV via Ethernet
    5 Phones (3 Apple/2 Android), 1 Laptop and 3 x PS4's, all via WiFi

No, Linksys seems to work fine. Just purchased the Asus as with most thing from Here on a Whim.

    Thanks.

    • I doubt you will see a big improvement.

I think you should keep that wifi router you bought, or resell.

    • Keep the Asus if you want to upgrade to Gigabit nbn. If you are happy on 100/20 keep the Linksys and return the Asus.

Your old router is ancient, keep the Asus.

For wireless the Asus is the most recent Wifi standard which handle multiple devices far better than previously. It also features the important 160Mhz band, the theoretical fastest single band.

From what I understand the Asus probably has double the RAM and a faster CPU by 300Mhz although it may feature more than 2 cores - I suspect it's probably quad core but I didn't get that far in research. It's tri-core.

    The asus is amazing!
I was dubious when i bought it as well on how much better could it be.

Ive had it for 3 months and its soo much more stable than previous wifi router. (Belkin)

The phone app that lets you monitor and set restrictions is also really handy.

    For the record 2 phones, 3 PC's, PS5. 2 Smart TV's 3 Google speakers. On FTTN NBN

  • Asus FTW!
