Energy and Gas Provider NSW

Hi everyone,

Just wondering what the consensus is for the cheapest energy and gas providers at the moment.
It seems pretty much all of the comparison websites only look at a few companies and don't seem to give me the best rate around.

Over the last 5 or so years I've been with Origin and every time I leave the retention team calls and gives me a good rate.
I've been on 25% electricity and 28% gas the past 12 months but it's about to expire.

Best I've seen so far is ReAmped but am I right in saying they don't do gas?

Thank everyone.

  • ReAmped for electricity is consistently cheaper for me.

    • Not good for solar feed in?

      • Not sure abt solar feed in.. I don't have solar at the moment so didn't explore.

    • Yeah looks like it to me too.

  • I have this … Energy Australia VIP (maybe offered after 12 months?)

    Daily supply charge
    Before discount
    $0.935 per day
    After 21% discount
    $0.7387 per day

    Usage rates

Dedicated Circuit usage per day (if applicable)
    Before discount
    11.0396 c/kWh
    After 21% discount
    8.72 c/kWh

    Peak usage per day
    Before discount
    27.4813 c/kWh
    After 21% discount
    21.71 c/kWh

All prices listed above include GST.

Hot water overnight at 8.72c/kWh is the bomb

  • I switched from Red to Reamped due to lower prices - more than 500 diff over a 12 mth period. I have solar but still find the Reamped plan with lower FIT to be cheaper overall due to lower usage cost. Dont forget to get the referral credit for Reamped.

  • try Lumo. usually they are the cheapest

    • Looks like they don’t service NSW.

  • Depends on postcode and your network.

Momentum has the lowest supply rate for my network.

  • Do you guys know how much roughly is the energy bill discounted to if it's on a pensioner account? I'm thinking of transferring my name to my dad and apply the AGL 25% friends and family discount. Just looking for a quote to see if it's worth it.

  • I've just had a look at rates as well and it looks like ReAmped also seems to be the cheapest, I'm switching from Origin too.

@KarlDilkington what plan did you end up going with? I'm thinking of ReAmped but need to look for a gas provider too. Was thinking Alinta Energy which seems to have relatively lower gas rates.

    • Went with ReAmped and New Energy for gas. Was going to go Alinta but didn't show when I put my address in.
I signed up through Cashrewards for the gas to get $42 cashback, eventually.
Also used a referral for ReAmped to get $50 back.

      • That's some juicy cashback. I ended up going with Alinta since they could provide both electricity and gas at rates lower than origin. Doesn't seem to be a "promotional rate" too, but guess will set a reminder to check again next year.

  • Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I always found Nectr to be cheaper than ReAmped?

    • I didn't see Nectr before but looks like 20% of ref price from them vs 25% from ReAmped. Both offer $50 referrals so wouldn't that make ReAmped cheaper?
