Who is the best Pre Paid telco to port to when you would like to keep your number?

Hello OzBargain fam,

I've been with Boost for years, and normally purchase the 365 day starter kits through the sellers that come up regularly on OzBargain.

The only issue I have is that because I'm using a starter kit versus a recharge, I have to port my number to another provider, and then port back to Boost so that I am able to keep my number.

Thanks to the deals that pop up on here, I've got a Lebara, Optus and Voda prepaid starter kit, and I was hoping for some guidance in who you thought was the best one to use.

I've had instances where I will port to a particular provider for only 15 mins, and then port straight back to Boost, only to get scam callers and dodgy messages for months afterward.

Any advice would be awesome !

  • Go onto live chat and tell them you have a recharge code and they will apply it to your account.

    • Hey mate.. Have you tried that before ?

That would be so much easier !

Most of the time, it works. If not, get another chat with a different support team member.

Yes I've done it multiple times.

If it makes you feel more confident, get on live chat, say you want that offer that is available and they will tell you to buy the starter pack and come back on live chat.

scam callers and dodgy messengers don't care what carrier/telco you're with…

It's a fact that certain telco's sell your details, hence the scam calls.

I've never had a scam call when starting with Boost, only when I port out

      • A fact? Absolute rubbish. This is completely illegal. If you are claiming this is in fact a "fact" please point us to where they disclose this under the telecommunications act? Otherwise it is not a fact. No telco that operates within Australia is allowed to "sell" your personal data lol
I think you've been spending too much time reading Facebook BS.
No scammer has ever known my name, (if they do they've collected it elsewhere) as I said, it's called an auto dialler. I can pick up my phone now and dial 0438 xxx xxx and more than likely it'll be a connected number, if not I can move onto the next number in the sequence, which is exactly what an auto dialler does.

      • do scammers magically loose your number when you port back to boost?

  • $2 Lebara or Vodafone SIM if you need to port out and back.

Not sure why you are mentioning scam callers, this has nothing to do with which telco you are with, zero.

You do know scam callers just use auto-diallers usually? They aren't stealing your phone number or details from anywhere 99% of the time, that is why they are calling you, to get through to some sucker who suddenly believes them and divulges all their personal details.

I get a scam call about once a week, I love to have fun with them and waste their time, ohhhh the joys of lockdown.

Apparently, I have a warrant for my arrest from a robotic voice from the Australian Border Force, the joy starts when they transfer me to a real person lol

    • $2 voda needed a recharge to activate the last time I tried.

      • Optus $2 (use the trick discussed in another post) or Telstra $2 sim.

        • Legend

    • Haha.. The robot voice
