For those interested in supporting independent brewers. Panhead has been owned by Lion Nathan for much of its existence. So, skip if you want to avoid corporate beer.

    • But it tastes good? What is like for like alternative?

      • +1

It's a good beer as long as its fresh

        • +1

4 months out before BBD is it still considered fresh. Thoughts anyone?

          • +1

@boozler: Hard to know without knowing the amount of time they set for their BBD from the brew date, it is more useful to know the brew date or the canning date

Stomping ground, black hops, bridge road, jetty road, hawkers, brick lane, bad shepherd, ballistic. They all make a similar style pale ale for a not bad price (maybe not 24 for $50 though)

        • +3

Stockade Flight Path Pale Ale can be had for $55ish at a lot of places atm as well.

Edit: the Panhead is a delicious (albeit, non-independent) drop if one can't find affordable independent beer, however.

          • @sw00p: Yeah I guess so, it's not always about buying independent - I like what balter and pirate life are putting out. However the only time I tried Panhead (on tap, can't remember if it was the APA or XPA) I didnt really rate it - it tasted like a toned down mass produced pale ale, not much hops

            • +2

@WillisAU: Probably the XPA (turquoise tap), the APA has a fair bit of flavour and much rarer to see on tap- one of my faves…

              • +1

@blighst: Panhead Tumblin Dice a great semi hazy strong full flavoured IPA really well ballanced, yum.

                Try this one, can't wait.

                • @ozhunter68: Will have to have a crack, I've only tried the big two Panhead beers in Aus. Maybe when travel to NZ is back to normal I will visit the brewery

        • +1

Young Henry's does a great everyman's pale ale, but yeah absolutely buy independent, CUB & Lion don't need your money.

          • +1

@Echryth: At least buying it from us was independent and we only stocked this beer cause we got a deal on it. ;)

  • Great deal OP. Delicious beer

  • Thanks OP - will give it a go

  • small cans, boo

    • +4

Full slab versus 16 cans which is the new packaging.

      • Yes, it's a good deal for sure, just saying most beers are offered in 330-355mL cans/bottles these days (besides the standard aussie beers)
Just a bit of a whinge, pay more get less, applies to everything, haha

        • Yeah, disappointing there is no consistency anymore.

      • +1

Yep, I recently ordered the 16 ‘slab’ from BB for $60 (plus a small discount) and best before is also Feb 22.

Now I’m going to have 58 (only had 6 so far) of these suckers to consume :)

Lucky lockdown will be lifted soon.
