Web Cam - with Microphone Shutter ?

Howdy,

So I have a logitech c922 Pro Stream currently and have a couple of issues.
1. It doesnt have a privacy shutter
2. The logitech software that comes with it, doesn't play nice with zoom. I can't have both application open at the same time
3. If anything the quality and settings are too advanced for my usage, which is just teleconferences. Its too crisp, always wants to go wide angle (sharing background I don't want it too), too many settings that always seam to reboot to default after changing applications.

So on the look out for another webcam, and this time keen to have a webcam that has a physical/manual privacy shutter/button for both the Mic and Video, any ideas? They all seams to only block the video. Need a good mic, video quality I'm not overly concerned about.

    There's a lot of issues/questions there.

Too "crisp" - Lower resolution/quality in the app you're using.
Privacy shutter - Buy something like this https://www.amazon.com/LZYDD-Privacy-Shutter-Protects-Logite… or use blutak/paper
Logitech software/too advanced - uninstall the Logitech software. Let Windows handle the cam.

If you're concerned about ASIO or hackers spying or listening in on you then just unplug it each time or disable it in device manager.

Pick a random shit camera that's got a privacy shutter on it and get this Plantronics Voyager 5200. Everyone I talk to comments about how clear my voice is!

I've got the Logitech C920 which is the same shape as yours and I tape the top of a cigarette packet onto the top of the camera. When it's not in use, I just flip the lid down.

    • If OP is a non-smoker it will cost them $50 to get the smokes packet!

      • There's always the cheaper no-name cigs that are $20/pack! 🤣

Just unplug it, put a post it note over it…etc.

    Never had any issues myself

You can just not install any of the proprietary software and use it as a simple background

  • Logitech Brio - https://www.logitech.com/en-au/products/webcams/brio-4k-hdr-…

I have one and it's great. The software is really good and no issues on Zoom or Google Meet.

As for the mic shutter, haven't ever seen many with one.

  • An effective mic shutter would probably require a thick shutter door / mic enclosure. ie it may not be a thing

  • Ok this has been a laugh, especially the packet of smokes :-)

So looks I stumbled across a 100 million dollar idea? a web cam that includes a mic shutter?

How about a web cam that has a power button on it?

"Just unplug it" many have said, so thats was what I was doing. But… then I went and got a new NUC computer, it only has one normal USB port at the front, which I need to use for the keyboard/mouse dongle. If I put this dongle at the back, my mouse pointer behaves badly. plugging out/in the web cam at the back of the NUC is a pain the a….

Cut the cord, put a switch on the 5V line, you have yourself a webcam with a power button.

If you don't want to mod the webcam itself, just get a USB cable and put a switch on the 5V line, easy.

      USB hubs are a thing.

Or do it in device manager like I said. Don't need to move from your chair.
