eBay Seller Sent My Express Postage with a Non-Express Sendle Service

I selected ebay express on checkout but the seller used Sendle instead of Australia Post Express. Not only that I was charged for shipping despite it being supposedly free.

Is this false advertising on eBay's part or a dodgy seller?

Sendle does use Australia Post for some packages

    • Express? I'm reading their website and they state they aren't an express service.

You would probably receive it faster with Sendle right now. If you want AusPost so much, send it to a parcel locker.

        • I live in Brisbane so Auspost isn't an issue for me. I've ordered other items via Auspost express after this purchase and they've already arrived.

Regardless, the seller clearly states Australia Post Express on the ebay plus check out on their current listing. Are they allowed to change it like that?

          • @DomMMK: Where is the seller located?

            • @askbargain: They are in Victoria. I don't care about the delay. I'm more concerned about the extra charge and the bait-and-switch for the courier.

              • @DomMMK: Have you actually received the product?

              • @DomMMK: They may have got a freebie from sendle, so they took advantage of that, but express post normally refers to Auspost Express service

  • Says free postage? Raise a case with eBay to see where the overcharge is from. Inflated shipping prices has been a sham on eBay for decades.

No express postage for free shipping, you pay extra $5.99 for that: https://i.imgur.com/DAWqiZp.png

Why are you buying cheap unbranded cables anyway? Get some reliable decent ones to last.

ebay have really cracked down on the postage scams now. With selling items, you expected to fill the items size and weight for ebay to calulate the postage cost for the buyer.

Most of the time when selling, ebay have incorrectly calulated the price for bulking items, not even taking account the amount of bubble wrap and packing required to send the item. So sellers are losing out on postage cost and fees on top of the postage.

That isn't what I see on my end: https://imgur.com/a/0sfF4ee

It isn't ten years ago, these cables aren't catching on fire anymore. It is for my keyboard anyway

  • Mark it as not received? PayPal treats free eBay Plus postage as not being free but it should charge your card correctly.

    • and the seller provides proof and delivery, case closed.

      • Proof of the wrong courier?

  • If you change the default postage it isn't free anymore: and they probably selected sendle because theres a free promo at the moment for your first label free. But that does look strange, I wonder if its a currency conversion and they are dropshippers?

Australia Post Express isn't 'express' either.

  • I selected ebay express on checkout but the seller used Sendle instead of Australia Post Express.

If the item doesn't arrive in the 'express' time frame quoted, once it arrives you can put in a claim for a refund on the express postage costs.

Are you sure you didn't tick signature for $2.50?

And what does this mean in OP's situation?

          • -1

            @askbargain:

And what does this mean in OP's situation?

Did you look at the OP picture as it doesn't 'match' the story.

            Item was $9.95
            Postage was FREE

            Total was $12.45.

So a difference of $2.50 for something. Sig on delivery is normally changed at this price.

Anyhow, I've just looked at the item the OP purchased being this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/401845946100

There isn't even a $2.50 option, and express postage is a $5.99 upgrade. So the OP clearly hasn't paid for 'express' postage.

              Sold as a special offer

            • @JimmyF: Sig on delivery is $2.95

          • @askbargain: That if the OP did that, it would account for the extra price they were charged.

    • There is nothing about a signature on the Sendle tracking number :|

      • Mate I wouldn't worry, as long as you receive it in a few days you should be fine. If you find it taking more than a week then I would raise a dispute.

At the moment shipping around the country has extended delays. Even Auspost express can be out by a day or 2.

He probably found a cheaper option to ship it to you. As I said wait a week and see if it comes.

        • I'm not concerned about the delay. It is more the extra charge and the fact that the seller is using a non-express service for their express mail.

          • @DomMMK: Simply talk to eBay chat and they will easily give you a refund or coupon for your next order, or open a dispute

Can you point out the bit in your screenshot you PAID for express postage?

Express postage is $5.99 upgrade on that listing you purchased from.

Postage options say 'different'. But appears you a ebay plus member. So get it for 'free'

$5.99 - Express Postage (Australia Post Express Parcel)
                Estimated by Mon. 25 Oct.

                So clearly not 'express'

                • +1

                  @JimmyF: It says "Free postage
                  Free
                  Australia
Express Postage (Australia Post Express Parcel)
On or before Mon. 18 Oct. to 4178"

For me. I literally showed you my postage options. I have no idea what you are trying to argue. Regardless, I've already contacted ebay and they admitted it was a mistake that I got charged.

                  • -1

@DomMMK: As I said above, you have 'ebay plus', for 'normal' people express is a extra charge ;)

                    • +1

@JimmyF: Yes, and me getting charged for the free express was the entire point of this thread. The amount I got charged was much lower than the standard express postage cost too.

          • @DomMMK: Are you sure YOU paid the extra $2.50? Are you an eBay plus member?

  • +1

If the item is less than $15, seller gets $2.50 from eBay for eBay plus purchase and seller is allowed to use trackable service instead of express. This should reflect on the estimated delivery date though.

Items over $15 get $4 and seller should use a proper express method to ship the product.

Australia Post is really slow these days which makes sellers nervous as well. Most of us try to do the right thing :)

NOOOOOOOO IT MUST BE SIGNATURE REEEEEEEEE

    • Yeah, but why was I charged $2.50 for the postage?

      • -1

Check your card (or even PayPal). You weren't.

        • I did check my card. I was charged.

          • -1

@DomMMK: Contact eBay. We can't help with that.

            • @askbargain: Yea no shit lol. I didn't make this thread to get help, just to see whether I should leave the seller a bad review or blame ebay for the stuff up

  • Why would you choose express postage when its not going to be express?

Im still waiting on mine and its been 2 weeks because of covid

  • +1

Raise hell. Sendle is a sh*t-show. At this stage, you're issue isn't the postage charge….it's if you'll ever see the item you purchased.

  • +2

You better have a car if your parcel is delivered through sendle. Sendle used the infamous courierplease to deliver my parcel. Their courier thinks he’s amusing for by dropping the parcel in a collection station 5km+ away from where I live.
Everytime a parcel is send through sendle, it’s never delivered but send to the collection point straight, at least The last few time they chose to dropped it somewhere within 2km.

Were I live in a regional area I am lucky if I receive the package at all if the sender uses sendle .. Sendle is a classic example of a cherry picking business that offers cheap service to those in Sydney and Melbourne at the expense of regional and rural Australia.

Australia post is certainly pathetically slow at the moment but at least they reliably deliver to all of Australia

  • +1

Sendle is much more superior than your Oz Post. So the seller did you a favour.

  • Outrageous! Call the police!
