    Are these really, really sharp?

Does one need to be really, really careful when using them to avoid losing finger bits?

Just in case anyone is in doubt. 🤣

Read the Amazon reviews - Many suggest buying with Bandaids…

I have unintentionally drawn blood with these knives…

      • I've almost sliced off part of my thumb with one. I don't recommend chopping onions with these, it usually ends in blood shed.

Nearly sliced my little finger off with one a couple of months ago - not paying attention and not used to how sharp they are. Did permanent nerve damage, so be careful out there.

    • I sliced a good part of the end of my thumb nearly off, very sharp.

    • I bought finger protectors for cutting on eBay, but I'll probably use it after cutting myself. Probably good to practice with to cut like a chef.

  • is this actually a good deal? I actually need some steak knives but no idea how much they actually cost

These are great steak knives, and $7 is a good price for them, but they seem to hit that price fairly often. I recommend ordering one or two to audition them, and if you like you can stock up next time they’re $7.

Make sure you have bandaids handy for your first time

I don't think so and would never buy these.

For cutting tomatoes I think a sharp chef knife (and wooden cutting board) is best. They virtually "fall through" tomatoes without sawing back and forth and you're more alert because of it too. (It doesn't have to be expensive to be sharp. I have Kiwi knives. But they do require constant "steeling".) Sharp is good when cutting the final bit of a tomato, but because these are short they're more difficult to control. That 25-30cm chef knife, if sharp, is so much easier to control even at the end of a tomato. (These don't have much more than a finger width of "body" to keep your fingers safe.)

If someone needs to cut tomatoes with a small knife like this, they're probably also going to cut it while holding it in their hand - and these are sharp.

As for steak, the pack of 4x black-handled serrated steak knives from ColesWorths are better/safer imho. Everyone knows how they work and what to expect when using them. I bought some about 15 years ago and apart from a couple of broken points from using them as screwdrivers, they still cut steak fine even after they blunt a bit. (They can cut you too when new when cutting a tomato in your hand, but not as bad as these, and they soon blunt down enough to be just right for in-hand cutting.) I still see the same type for sale today.

If someone tosses these ones under soapy water along with other cutlery, again you risk cuts. Plus they and other cutlery will nick/chop into the plastic handles so they soon look like a dog's breakfast. So you become embarrassed to put them out for use, unaware guests can cut themselves when using or washing up if not warned, but you'll be hesitant to throw them out due to buying them and still being sharp.

Dishwasher tablets can also turn plastic handles to a powdered appearance like they've been left out in the sun for a few years. Many times I've see these knives at op shops with degraded handles.

So yeah: chef knives with a cutting board for preparing the meal… and blunter serrated knives to keep distracted people having a conversation at the dinner table safe or for those who cut tomatoes in the hand. But that's me.

Combine with this to sharpen them allowing you to cut through the fabric of space and time.

    • I sharpened my big serrated knife on one of these and it does work but also wears down the knife over time. Now my knife is more flat, and requires sharpening more often. The serated knives stay sharp for a very long time from new at least

    • Thank you so much. I hv been wanting to get a reasonably priced good sharpener for some time.

    Superb for cutting tomatoes too!

  • These knives are great. Very sharp but very cheap. Since they are cheap I don't stress about them going in the dishwasher.

    • The plastic handles help too!

Black ones from eBay are dulling quicker than the red one I bought from Amazon. I've had and used the red one a lot longer too.

    • +2

The red ones taste like blood too.

    • +1

Sounds like the eBay one might be a fake?

      • Hard to say, they look legit had fancy barcode stickers on them also, was a similar price only made better with a coupon. I got 6 of them for $20 or thereabouts. Only have one red one so it's fairly obvious.

  • +2

How do these compare to spotlights colourmix? Those are also insanely sharp and only$2 if memory serves

  • You call this a knife?

  • These are really good knives . Need the blue one to complete the collection !!

  • +1

Why are you limited to 5? Just so we can't get free shipping?

  • +3

These look better deal if you want a pack of 6

  • i have the peeler, i bought it years ago and it just stays sharp, very easy to peel carrot, potato, and radish. amazing.

    • Black or orange style?

      • the black style.

  • We got a full dining set of these as a gift (11 years ago) and we've been using them ever since on a daily basis. Still as sharp as ever and have never needed sharpening. I have not used them on a steak yet… Have since purchased individual pieces like this to add to the collection, but hard to find their spoons on special, nor another full dining set. Their spoons are pretty solid, no flex at all.

    Highly recommend this!

Cheers, bought 2 and a packet of bandaids 😆

The official ozbargain knife… love it.

  • What's RRP on these?

  • Any recommendations out of their bread knife range ?

  • Make sure your Private Health insurance and Ambulance membership is paid up before using these.

  • I was curious in these but after the comments about how sharp they are I'd be too worried about my elderly mother slicing every finger off while washing them. To be honest I'm accident prone enough as is.

  • minimum order quantity 2?? anyone else finding this?

  • Where have these been all my life! 😭

Victorinox Wavy Edge Steak knives arrived today. They're super sharp and cut through steak like butter.

The only downside that I've noticed is that the handle is pretty small.
