  • Look down in the new & used…just bought one.

  • still show $99 for me, just purchased

  • Back in at $99, n3rds.

  • Yep, back in stock at $99, nabbed one myself as well.

  • Nice, just got one!! $99.

  • nice! got one.

  • i love how they market it for gamers yet it's a condenser mic lmao…

    • Does it matter if it's condenser or dynamic for gamers? Genuinely wanting to know

      • +2

condenser picks up more background noise unless your environment has sound dampening but doesnt require your mouth to be very close to the mic. condense has a more "natural" sound but picks up more background noise.

        • i'd definitely prefer this mic for pure voice applications like audiobooks and podcasts, where picking up more background sound is countered by deliberate attempts to soundproof your physical recording space with foam and controlled breathing.

but I don't seem to find the kind of 'gamers' RODE is talking about, most seem to have industrial fans behind them and static TVs on purpose, they would not benefit from this mic if they only scream anyway.

      • +1

i find the condenser mics have warmer sound. great for quiet environments. dynamic mics isn't as warm, and find them better if you have ambient background

      • Does it matter if it's condenser or dynamic for gamers?

Condenser is preferable as you don't have to kiss the mic for it to put out a good level, so I'm not sure what @dfg555 meant by his comment.

  • This one or the classic Blue Yeti?

    • +1

      This one

      • ok thanks, any particular reason?

        • +1

I bought one a year back and at that time I did my usual excessive level of research. At the previous higher price this still came out as a better product.

At this lower price it's an even better deal.

Edit: sorry the yeti is a much more expensive mic. I would have been comparing it to the snowball/nano. My mistake. Based on the price the yeti is probably better

      • Was the blue yeti ever good, especially when it launched?

    • Are you comparing this to the Blue Yeti or the Blue Yeti Nano?

      • Blue Yeti

        • +2

Double the price, double the size. A bunch of other differences.

For under $100, this Rode is a wonderful mic with a small form-factor that looks great.

  • I've had one for a year now. Highly recommended. Great mic

  • Would this be good for farting ASMR?

    • depends on what frequency range your farts are

  • Got one thanks OP. Been thinking about making the switch to a dedicated mic at home for both gaming and recording guides for staff to use at work 🤙

  • Thanks OP, ordered @ 2:45pm

  • I previously bought this for $149 and it has an excellent quality build and sound.

  • Would this work well to record say three people sitting around it, or is too directed to record multiple angles? Hope that makes sense lol.

    • Check out the write up on the Rode Web site. It explains this.

      • I had a look and it talked about can set up multiple mics to rode connect. It was more just using the one mic rather than 3 mics. Like is it 360° recording if you have a triangle of people around it.

      • Is this the section you're talking about?

        Q.
When recording with multiple people in one room, how do I avoid sound spilling over between microphones?
        A.
There are many things you can do to get a clean recording with minimal spill between microphones. Try recording in the quietest place possible, ideally in a room with minimal reflective surfaces (such as floorboards). Place the microphones as far away from each other as possible, faced away from one another. Positioning each microphone less than six inches from you and your guests’ will also help to capture a clean signal (you may need to use a desk stand or studio arm like the RØDE DS1 or PSA1 to achieve this).

I'm not sure how relevant this is to Ragzs' question though, as it talks about using multiple mics. If you're using only one of these mics, I don't think this may be the best option for 3 people around it because of the cardiod pattern it uses, i.e. how it records in a heart pattern in front of the mic, with the tip of the heart coming out of the mic:

Your situation makes me think of the HyperX QuadCast mic, as it has different pickup modes e.g. cardiod, stereo, omnidirectional, biderctional which may be better for people sitting around a mic, or on opposite sides of the mic. This page shows these different modes:

I don't know much more than this, but I hope you can find the mic that best suits your needs :)

Can i use 2 of these to do asmr videos ?

  • Amazon AU has Audio-Technica ATR2100x on sale for $99 too if anyone prefer dynamic mic over condenser mic.

  • Spewing for missing this deal

  • I got mine yesterday. It's recording really distorted with static. Looked everywhere for a solution (tweaked sound settings, plugged into other devices, changed cables, recording application) to no avail. Already filed a complaint with Rode.

  • Got mine today, sounds and works great.

The headphone output is OK. It can drive my headphones but nowhere as well as my dedicated headphone amp.

It also works with my Samsung phone with not only the RODE Reporter app, but also with Zoom, with headphones connected to the mic's headphone out.
