  • It was only a matter of time for JB to enforce a limit on the TCN card

    • +2

Must be a new thing. Does that apply to the other HIM cards? I always forget which one is which but I used $2200 worth today without any issues (but I was as friendly and polite as I could be).

      • +5

Ditto, used quite a few yesterday at JB from the Woolies deal.

If worried, swap them online to JB gift cards, never expire and are store branded.

        https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/9fdf26cfbc7c8f79b…

        • Hey, I just did this to convert my vouchers to JB cards - what happens now? I put in my card number and pin and it says complete but how do I actually use the credit?

          Thanks so much

          • +3

@Lonz123: TCN will email a link to the JB HIFI gift card details - a pdf.

Then just scan that barcode in store or enter the card number with pin online.

            • @cycloneaussie: Thank you. Hopefully it won’t take too long. I did it a few hours ago.

              • +1

@Lonz123: It was pretty much instant from redeeming on the TCN website to receiving the email… Spam box?

                • @cycloneaussie: Nothing. Bit concerning that. I purchased them via Flybuys. Do you think that’ll make much of a difference?

                  I emailed their support anyways

                  • @Lonz123: Any update mate? I converted mine to a JB card few hours ago recieved nothing as of yet. How long did it take you?

        • Which cards again can you exchange to jb hifi on just him cards?

          • @bwatt72: Forgive for asking but whats the benefit/difference of converting the him gift card to a JB one? Both accepted by JB no?

            • @hilmand216: There's two benefits (that I can think of):

              • You cannot use TCN gift cards directly on the JB Hi-Fi website, as TCN gift cards are EFTPOS gift cards (and EFTPOS is currently not available for online transactions). However, if you exchange TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, you can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website.

              • A TCN gift card has a three year expiry date, whereas a JB Hi-Fi gift card has no expiry date.

              • @WookieMonster: ok, in theory i can:

buy 10 x $500 Him gift cards > convert all of them to JB cards > use all 10 of them in ONE JB in-store/online transaction?

                • @hilmand216: No, $500 HIM gift cards don't exist. The highest denomination I have ever seen sold at retailers is $100.

                  • @WookieMonster: i understand, but the concept still works with $100 gift cards no? Can still convert 16x $100 him gift card to JB cards> Use all 16 gift cards in one JB in store/online transaction.

        • Just tried swapping a couple of $50 TCN Teen cards to JB Hi-Fi vouchers at https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/3415662db82ef9415… and it keeps saying "Wrong card type" after I enter the card number and PIN and submit the form :(

The cards are definitely less than 3yrs old.

          • +1

@sridhar: The link you provided is for the $30 Teen card conversion to JB Hi-Fi vouchers. If you have $50 cards you should be using the link:

            https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/8fd55811fcd743e25…

or generate the link yourself from the main Teen page and select in the "How to Use" section the JB Hi-Fi $50 option from the drop-down list of retailers, then to right of the drop-down select "Online" and then below it click on "Redeem Online".

  • +2

where does it say that it's capped at jb?

  • +1

How is the 500 enforced. Can you not just buy lots of $500 in different transactions?

  • +1

    Here we go….

  • +1

    Targetted offer

  • Had been15% off before?

    • Ultimate cards (which include JB) were 20% earlier this month, although in Flybuys points.

    • +1

Yes, but that has only ever happened once (and that was nearly 12 months ago).

  • Where's that $500 cap come from? Don't think JB will say no to money. Also I don't think tcn can stop people buying from different shop or different transactions.

    • My guess is that TCN won't stop you but the JB Hifi terminal will just block using >$500 of gift cards which are third party branded. Nothing stopping you from using them and buying JB Hifi branded gift cards though IMO.

      • Swap to JB gift card then, so easy. Plus I don't think JB's system will block this. As it's just EFTPOS card to them. Last time was the staff stop people using more than 5 cards. 500 cap only lasted 1 day.

    • +4

The $500 cap for JB Hi-Fi was mentioned in the description, because it looks like the table of participating retailers was copied from a very old OzBargain post.

TCN created a restriction in the card's terms and conditions around the time of the 15% discount on TCN gift cards at Coles, where JB Hi-Fi wanted to limit people to only redeem up to $500 in TCN gift cards in a single transaction. However, that restriction was repealed a few days later, and apparently the highest number of EFTPOS gift cards redeemed at one JB Hi-Fi store is 63.

The list of participating retailers is out of date, as there are more participating retailers for these gift cards than what is mentioned in the description.

      • +1

        that's exactly the story.

  • +1

Awesome. Time to start following numpties around Target so I know where to find the cards on the day 🙄

    • +1

They should always be kept behind a counter. Why won't they learn.

  • -2

Crap, just bought an iphone from JB.

    • +1

Buy another one and then take it back with the first receipt?? Works for me at Aldi when the reduce stuff.

  • Will all these both online and instore? For example, NIKE online and NIKE instore

    • +2

      No.

This is an EFTPOS gift card, so it will work at participating retailers:

      • In-store only (e.g. NIKE),
      • Online only (e.g. Xbox), or
      • In-store and online (e.g. JB Hi-Fi).

When TCN says online, they actually refer to exchanging some or all of the balance of the TCN gift card for a participating retailer's gift card (where permitted). You can look on the TCN gift card page to see which participating retailers will accept in-store only, online only, or in-store and online.

On the other hand, the Ultimate Gift Card (more specifically, the newer Visa gift card variant) can be used in-store and online at participating retailers, and you can exchange some or all of the gift card's balance for a retailer’s gift card for some participating retailers too.

      • +2

Really appreciate your kind help! Hopw you have a nice day :)

  • -1

I might be pushing the edge - Can you buy gift cards with Target gift cards at Target?

    • +1

Reasonable question as you can do so w/ Coles group GC's (which includes Target) at Coles. Not sure why the downvotes?

      • Thanks mate. Once an Ozbargainer, always an Ozbargainer!

  • -1

Good way to cash out flybuys stockpiles

  • +2

    Hmm
Would like a new iPhone but not sure I'd feel comfortable putting 20 of these cards through the register and leaving nothing for anyone else. Wish they had $500 ones.

    • +1

I purchased an iPad Pro with these cards. You feel like a scab swiping 17 $100 cards to save $170 lol

    • Why not convert them to online JB gift vouchers and use them online?

      • Coz I price matched apples education store price in store at jb saved another $150

  • Is it really different denominations of the HIM ($50) and HER ($100) cards? I think it might just be illustrating the various cards(?)

Unfortunately you can't read the T&C on the image.

    • I would be thoroughly surprised if other denominations of the HER/HIM/BABY gift cards were excluded from this deals, as that kind of exclusion is not mentioned in the picture from the catalogue.

My guess is that only the pictured denominations are listed in this deal out of an abundance of caution (on the remote chance the only gift cards being sold at 10% off are the pictured denominations).

    • Just check the advertisements instore, and confirm the price at the cash register.

  • how many cards per transaction does JB accept online?

    • +2

You cannot use TCN gift cards directly on the JB Hi-Fi website, as TCN gift cards are EFTPOS gift cards (and EFTPOS is currently not available for online transactions).

If you exchange TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, you can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website.

      • +1

Good to know that, before you can use 5x100 to buy a 1x500 from JB website. Later they blocked it. Now if you can use "unlimited" number other than 5, it's even better than before.

        • I bought 15 of $100 Him and Her cards and changed all to JB hi-fi vouchers then I bought an iPhone 13 pro yesterday.
          I made mistake to change a bit, so I used 14 of $100 and 1 each of $50, $30, $20 on JB hi-fi online.
So they accepted 17 vouchers at least in one transaction.

          • @Alpaca187: Yes, since they accept more than 5 cards online, it's more convenient now.

  • Would it be possible for JB to price match TGG's $2700 MBP 14", then pay with these gift cards for effectivly getting the MBP for only $2430?

    • +1

Yes. Possible. The gift cards are just the method of payment. They are seperate to any deal you do.

  • If we use the coles master card from last deal to buy these, we are getting 16.75% off. Good for black friday Cyber Monday.

  • +1

i can confirm it works on any denomination. just purchased $100 HIM cards and the 10% off was applied

    • Thanks, good to know. Only bought 250 this time. Try to use Cole master card on something else.

      • i bought about 2k. need to buy a new fridge so a decent savings

        • Sure if you have a target to spend, why not.

        • Target Foresthill doesn’t allow me to buy more than 5 per day.

  • Does it expire? I know if you convert to JB gfit card it won't expire, but HIM card itself has expire date?

    • +1

36 months from date of purchase

      • Thanks for the answer, maybe I should stock up, definitely need a new phone in 3 years. :)

  • +2

    LIMIT OF 5 CARDS

    • +1

      I bought 9 in 1 go

      • Nvm - it really depends on whether the store manager is having a good day today or not.

Apparently the manager at the Forest Hill store isn’t.

I managed to score 19 cards at another store.

        • What is the max. amount per card? $100?

        • +1

Forest Hill got all the shit staffs from Coles to Target.

      • -1

btw i like your username lol

        • thanks mate. i was selling masks early in the pandemic so that was the website and username. not much need for it now as so much crap flooding the market

  • Thanks, got myself $1100 worth of gift cards, hoping to pick up some more in the next couple of days as I plan on getting a new tv from JB.

  • just tried to convert another $1000 to JB Hi Fi online but the system has changed and is now only offering instore.

    has anyone else noticed this?

    • Yes, I just noticed that too.

I wonder whether TCN have temporarily run out of JB Hi-Fi gift cards, or JB Hi-Fi no longer wants people to exchange TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, or something else.

You should contact TCN and find out (if you haven't already).

    • Weird, my girlfriend helped me swap out a bunch of TCN cards for JB-HIFI online ones on Friday night. We only received two of them and nothing else for the rest. Now it is interesting they are not providing that online swap feature anymore on the website.

      • +1

I spoke to TCN and they confirmed:

        • This was a very recent change (i.e. within the last couple of days).
        • All TCN physical (EFTPOS) gift cards with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer can now only be used in-store.
        • You can still use TCN digital (Mastercard) gift cards with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer at JB Hi-Fi online or in-store, because they’re Mastercards. However, that’s irrelevant for 98% of TCN gift card deals on OzBargain.
        • At this stage, the removal of the JB Hi-Fi gift card exchange facility is a permanent change.

If I were you, I would reach out to TCN and ask where the other digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards are. My guess is that they won’t give you any more digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards, and they’ll return any redeemed funds back onto your gift cards.

        • Can the TCN physical gift cards can be converted to JB Gift Cards in store?

          • +1

@cbrbargainer: JB Hi-Fi staff were told by JB Hi-Fi head office late last year to stop customers from doing that, but I don't think JB Hi-Fi's POS system will block you, so YMMV.

Btw, TCN's FAQ page has this as a response to "I tried to swap my gift card for an e-gift voucher but the transaction failed. Why?"

The Gift Card is subject to these restrictions:

            • JB HiFi: Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi
            • The Good Guys: Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by The Good Guys
            • +2

@WookieMonster: I'm going to try. Will report back.

And if purchasing a JB Gift Card fails, I'm going to try purchasing Apple Gift Cards :P

(serves me right for not quickly swapping TCN Gift cards for JB Digital when I purchased the last tranche of $1000 on 7/11.)

              • @cbrbargainer: Can you please update on how you go! I am looking to buy a discounted laptop using a bunch of tcn gift cards

                • +1

@islask: There is no problem for you to use TCN card in store at JBHifi to buy items.

                  • @samehada: Ok cool i hope they accept 30 cards 😂

                • @islask: Meant to come back and reply earlier. Tried buying JB Gift Cards at one store and was told "no gift cards with other gift cards". Didn't try purchasing Apple Gift Cards (mainly as I don't know if I have an upcoming Apple spend). I'll figure out some reason to use these up at JB. Maybe a new OLED TV? :P

                  • @cbrbargainer: Update to my own post - ended up spending these + a stack of 15% TCN Gift Cards purchased during the Coles promo to buy an Eero 6 Mesh 3-Pack and LG C1 55 during the black friday sales.

                    LG C1 55 was $2142, and cost me $1855.xx

Eero 6 was $319, and cost me $272.xx

And with that, all my TCN Gift Cards have now been used up.

  • Grabbed 6 of $100 cards. Thanks op!

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed 4 to buy baby stuffs.

  • Expires today?

    • Yep, expires at the end of today (i.e. when stores close).
