[OzBargain 15th Birthday] <SYD CBD> Meetup 18th December 4.45pm @ (KBBQ Yang San Park)

UPDATE: Rescheduled to November 20th Saturday 4.45pm. Discussion here

The restaurant opens for dinner 5pm but it's no bookings first in best dressed so I've out 4.45pm start to ensure we get in. Total seating is about 50 so I'd say 30 people getting in is the maximum

I may be a bit early but I hosted a meetup in 2019 at Lemongrass Thai.
This time I want to get some shirts from Scotty for the meetup for each attendee and tried out the restaurant.
For this meetup I suggest KBBQ as it seems a good communal sharing food appropriate for Ozbargain Middle aged Asian male userbase who work in IT and a great atmosphere. I have chosen the thriftiest KBBQ place I know.

Scotty:

$25pp is the soft limit, but I also realise that hospitality venues have got a bit expensive over the last 2 years. Keep the receipt.

I haven't been here before but BBQ Biwon is permanently closed.
Looked for value places and they have $15-27 meat dishes.
They have a cash discount with 10% off for paying cash only.
Without too much Soju or alcohol or drinks and some oversight on ordering/possibly a bulk booking discount I believe I can keep it under $25PP

Scotty on Numbers:

It's also a good idea to have more smaller meetups than a large one where over hundred people turn up, i.e. Melbourne ones in previous years. Let's say cap the number at 30 people, and have more people volunteering organising.

Capped at 30 people realistically for 1.5hr max seating.

Someone should make a BigManTyrone OZB 15th birthday video.

    • Yes when he is discounted for Black Friday Obviously

    • If I was attending I would.

      • Why not make one anyway. Will it use footage from the meetup?

        • Put your AL payout to good use ;)

  • Last OzBargainer standing wins a t-shirt.

Middle aged Asian male… who work in IT

Quite a specific target audience. Would Biwon be suitable for a middle aged Asian male who works in law? Or a middle aged Asian female that works in IT?

    • Or even a female ha

    • Just a tongue in cheek quip but stats from my last Meetup and the other meetups prove its true.

Yes 17/20 of the people who came to my 2019 Meetup were middle aged Asian men
The majority of those worked in IT
2 were middle aged Asian women
Small sample size I know but it was the same for other 3 meetups I've been to

lol, have fun, I’m not in Sydney anyway so it’s not relevant to me. But as a middle aged Caucasian women who works in health I still appreciate KBBQ.

      • So who was the remaining one?

        • You and I both know
White middle aged caucasian male who doesn't like being in photos

  • Where is Strathfield?

    • Clearly says SYD in the title …

Oh my goodness… middle aged, working in IT, and $25 pp eating out in a restaurant sounds expensive? Definitely some cheapskates here.

    • No I'm just respecting Scotty's limit on Ozbargain sponsorship. Ozbargain is footing the bill and even at a restaurant with $9.9 all day specials we spent $23 a head after I negotiated a 10% restaurant bulk discount.

I am keen for another trip down from the Central Coast. Last one I went to for the 13th birthday at Lee's Malaysian was great!

    • Yes I was there too, must have seen you there

  • Had it today, good prompt service. They cooked my meat for me and cut it up as they saw I was struggling a bit.
Beef tender and juicy, egg souffle nice and puffy, chilli sauce on side very nice, pork and chicken pretty good too
$5 cash discount for over $70

    Can you bring your scooter

    • Nope please refer to my update on that thread.

surely sharing Korean bbq with 30 strangers is not what we need right now?

how quickly we forget where we were just a month ago.

    • This event is on December 4th in one month when restrictions are reduced and unvaccinated can come.
85% people are vaccinated, we are down to 171 cases down with a downward momentum
If you are scared please don't come.
This is more of a comment on Dominic Perrotet and NSW government than my event.
Furthermore 30 people will not be sharing hot pot, tables are of 2-6 people maximum 3 per bbq

You might want to change the date. Not sure if you paid attention to the news yesterday, but the unvaccinated can't go anywhere until December 15 now.

        • Majority of OzB don't care for the unvaccinated apparently, so unlikely you will see a date change.

        • Ok there is only 1 other day which is the 18th December because then it's Christmas and New year's after that but the announcement says 95% vaccination I'm not sure as 93.6% have single dose it would require more to get the first jab and second in 6 weeks. I'd hope 85% of ozbargain is vaccinated now but trying to be inclusive.

@levity can invite your friend that has your scooter for a free feed… then the rest of us can hassle him to return your scooter LOL.

    • Seems like a good plan only if he didn't block me on Facebook and phone
