these are the worst tasting beans I've ever bought

    • +1

So not true. We've been buying these beans for home and just bought another 4kg.

      • Santo is our house blend for all black coffees and has been enjoyed by thousands of customers for years! We love it and so do our customers!

        • +1

Please read comments from previous offers.

I don't know why people are downvoting you - I also bought some from the previous deal and thought it tasted great. It's definitely different - but they have pretty clearly stated the flavour profile on the page, which I found to be accurate. Would have ordered the Steadfast from a few days ago just to try something new, but I'm well stocked on beans at the moment.

        • Thanks for the feedback!

    • +5

Completely agree, purchased them from this deal in August, regretted it so much. Sensory Lab’s Steadfast and Stellar blends are all right, but this Santo organic blend tastes terrible (both prepared as an espresso and as a magic).

      • Hi there Angliss, sorry to hear you didn't like our Santo blend. As previously mentioned, it's our house espresso blend for black coffee and has delicious fruity notes that our customers have loved for years.

The brew recipe for the Santo blend is listed on our site to make sure you're getting the best results, you can find it here: https://bit.ly/3BEIzLg

Fruity is a nice way of saying sour/acidic I guess. Not sure that is a box I’d tick in desired taste profile.

      • I scored some from the same deal. I agree that it isn't good in a magic. But I found it to be exceptional for cold drip.

      • +2

Yep, I still have a bag left from the previous deal. Just look at all the comments from the previous deal. The rep might love it but I can assure you the customers definitely don't.

    • +3

      100% agree, easily the worst.

  • +1

Hi Sensory Lab, I love your Steller blend, so good!

    • Thanks for the feedback! Keep and eye out for deals on the Stellar blend too ;)

      • +1

Any chances for a 1x Stellar 1x Santo combo?

        • +1

We'll be doing smaller bundle deals soon :)

Bought this in the last deal and they're honestly one of the worst beans I've had. Their other beans may be okay but these were not good at all.

    • Hi Quasi Human, sorry to hear that. What method of brewing were you using and did you follow our brew recipe? Let me know if you need any assistance.

      • +1

Honestly, crap coffee remains crap coffee. No amount of brewing changes are going to make these horrible beans taste wonderful.

        • If you'd like to speak to our Green Coffee buyer and Head Roaster or even come down for a tour of our roasting facilities, we'd love to talk to you about the coffee we produce. We can show you the process and how to properly brew the coffee to achieve the results thousands of our customers do everyday, including our chains of cafes and wholesale customers using this blend. You can email us at [email protected] and we can set up a time.

          Cheers, James

          • @SensoryLabCoffee: Hey….I had a coffee from the Blue Dirt MTB shuttle cafe at Falls Creek. It was the best coffee I have ever had so asked which beans and found they used yours. Not sure which one tho.
I bought this on their recommendation but I also found they weren't so great.
I guess it needs a good technique outside of my capabilities?
What would you recommend as a fail safe option for the best roasted flavour espresso/flat white?
Happy to give things another go from the first experience

            • @slipperypete: Hey! They use Stellar - our darker blend….which happens to be on sale very soon too ;)
This blend is great in milk coffee. We suggest using the following recipe for espresso:

              DOSE: 20-22G

              YIELD: 42-46G

              TIME: 26-32S

              • @SensoryLabCoffee: thanks for that…will definitely look out for it. I have enough beans to keep me going for a few weeks yet so that should work well

      • +3

Double shot espresso in BES870. For fresh beans I can usually pull a half way decent shot without much fiddling around with grind settings. This was the only bean I couldn't pull a good shot with. It seems quite a few folk here also had trouble which leads me to believe I'm not solely at fault here. I won't be buying this again and I would recommend others if they want to keep their sanity and drink a good cup of coffee to skip this deal

When it comes to grind settings for coffee, there's no blanket setting. Every coffee (including every batch of the same coffee) will need grind adjustments, especially on home machines. That's not even taking things like weather and humidity into consideration.

I personally have a Breville Barista Pro at home and find I'm altering the grind setting constantly depending on the coffee, the humidity and various other issues.

Regardless, thanks for trying Sensory Lab and we hope you will give it another go in the future. If you or anyone else is having trouble with our coffee, we are more than happy to assist with troubleshooting via emailing [email protected]

@SensoryLabCoffee: I know the process to dial in coffee and no matter how much I tried the coffee was pretty bad.

Not to sound rude, but with so many other Roasters and blends of coffees I won't be trying this again.

I'm open to trying some other blends, and if there is another deal that doesn't require purchasing so many beans I'll give that a go.

    • Not sure why people are saying these beans are bad. They are probably one of the better beans I've tried. I enjoy fruitier coffees and these definitely hit the spot. 2kg is a bit much for me but will definitely buy when there's a deal for 1kg.

  • +1

Also bought on the last deal; not a coffee expert by any stretch but prefer their other varieties.

Any chance I can pickup my order from your Bourke St store? Saves you on shipping and saves my parcel doing a round trip around Australia to land back in Melb CBD. Saves the environment needless pollution too!

Ive sent you guys an email this morning after ordering.

      Hi Bismar,
Although we'd love for that to be possible, It's not currently something we can offer at this stage.

  • Hey Rep, need a deal on single origin ones?

    • We have a great deal on some delicious single origin coffee coming soon :)

  • +2

Different strokes for different folks. Quite like this blend as a flatty brewed on my e61 with a niche. Prefer this over the sumatra blend from Arjo so would advise to not necessarily be put off by other comments but try for yourself.

    • +1

I probably wouldn't recommend someone spend $55 on 2kg of coffee which they might find undrinkable.

If it was 1 or 2 negative comments, hey dismiss the comments by all means. But when the majority of the feedback is negative (look at previous deals or even this one), it may be worthwhile thinking twice before buying

    • Haven't tried this but maybe ozbargain peeps aren't used to fruity blends

  • I know this deal has expired, but sharing my thoughts on these beans for future reference. I found them really hard to dial-in on my grinder, difficult to pull a good shot and the lack of crema is really noticeable.

And the taste isn’t for me - quite an acidic taste at the end, and also after.

My opinion, but I won’t buy this bean again.
