Apple AOC Discounted Order Cancelled by Apple

Just wanted to share my experience (and possibly hear others’ experiences, if any) with regards to utilizing the Ozbargain popular apple discount site via AOC Apple education discount (cheaper than regular apple education pricing by a few %).

Anyway, I placed an order on day one, right after the apple presentation / announcement for the new MacBook pros.

Order went through, no problems, and received the laptop shortly thereafter.

I decided once I had received it that it was a bit of an overkill for my proposed workflow (rushed to order the device in a hurry so as to get earliest possible delivery) and so I decided to give that laptop to my fiancé who could better utilize the power of the device.

Fast forward to today, I tried placing another order via AOC link and everything went through fine (lower spec version - m1 pro instead of original m1 max) only to receive an email stating my order had been cancelled due to “exceeding product quantities”.

What’s interesting is that only a few months ago, I purchased a separate m1 MacBook Pro 13” for my brother using the same link and also, more recently, purchased an m1 MacBook Air for my sister also using that link without any issues.

Could it be that apple is now imposing hard limits to purchasing devices using this link?

For reference, I am an academic and teach at a university in NSW, I do have access to regular education discount (unsure if they have similar caps) but was disappointed for my order to get knocked back today.

Curious as to whether others have faced similar issue or experiences. Understand I may be an exception here, having purchased several devices in the preceding months but was unaware of any hard limits (which is fair enough).

Apparently, the limits are as follows:

Desktop: One (1) unit
Mac mini: One (1) unit
Notebook: One (1) unit
Display: Up to two (2) units
Software: Up to two (2) titles
iPad: Up to two (2) units (can be a combination of any models)

Education pricing is always one per 12 months.
You already had your one when you purchased the first MacBook

Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per year
Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per year
Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per year
iPad: Two (2) may be purchased per year
Accessories: Two (2) accessories with Education Pricing may be purchased per year

    • Curious as to why I was able to place a few other others beforehand (not complaining though). They were all placed in the span of a few months.

  • Those eligible to purchase from the Apple Store for Education will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of products per year. Not all products have special Education Pricing.

Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per year
Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per year
Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per year
iPad: Two (2) may be purchased per year
Accessories: Two (2) accessories with Education Pricing may be purchased per year
