Best Joint Care Supplements for Dogs?

I have an Ageing German Shepard who's hips are getting stiff, there is a huge amount of often expensive joint supplements out there for dogs I was just wondering if anyone has used any that they could recommend ( or recommend steering clear of )

any information is appreciated.

thanks

Feels like something you ought to discuss with Vet for professional advice.

    • I have, they just said get a joint supplement that contains glucosamine :) which all of them do it seems

    Hemp oil.
Our GSD isn't at that stage of her life yet but it has great benefits for joints, inflammation, skin, allergies, anxiety etc.
It's a better Omega 3:6 ratio than fish oil.

We feed our dogs Pet Food Australia kibble which has it in it already but have also used stuff from The Cannabis Co. That one is a faster acting product, or you can get the one without Flaxseed oil which will be a bit more subtle and is aimed at long term usage.
It's also a lot more widely spread than it previously used to be and a lot of pet stores will stock it also.

We have used Sachas Blend for our geriatrics for a number of years now and it seems to help. Careful how much you pay however. Have seen it from $55to $85, so shop around.

I had a German Sheppard x Rottweiler, big 45kg snuggle bug, and bad rear joints due to a broken leg when she was younger. Best thing I ever did was get these arthritis injections at the vet. She became so much better after them.

Our 17yo 4kg Maltese has a torn rear ACL and arthritis. He gets those injections every 4-6 weeks. They are great. $50 a go?

Get a rescue dog they said. It's cheaper they said.

and i bet you do the same again, the feeling and care you and they get is worth it.

I love the little guy and we are devoted to making his final years the best they can be.

From what we can gather he's had a hard life including 2 years in Bankstown as a stray on the streets.

I can't remember how much the injections were, but they were not expensive. Cheaper than a lot of supplements.

German Sheppard x Rottweiler wasn't a rescue, but my current dog is.

https://rosehipvital.com.au. not too sure how good it is yet (only on 2nd lot of it now), but it seemed to add a little spark to our ageing (13 years old) pugalier. if you go ahead & purchase try REFILL3C at checkout for a 40% discount. good luck.

I have been using this on my mini dachshunds for the last 3/4 years. The oldest of the two is 13ish now and prior to taking this used to hobble around all winter but this has brought spring back to her step - it does take a few months to really see the effects though. The other dog came down with IVDD a few years ago too and I reckon is probably back to 80% of his pre-surgery mobility as well likely not due to this but we do feel he recovered very well post his surgery.

There have been some flagged risks due to the high vitamin C content can have on some dogs, but we monitor it carefully and have had no negative impacts for our extended period using it.

I have always bought mine here, as I have noticed it even in pet stores recently for much more than I have ever paid for it: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/183556067446?ssPageName=STRK%3AM…

650g for $75, I just take the 150g and empty it into the 500g container when it comes.

I've got my 9 year old Greyhound on dog glucosamine, Antinol and he had the catrophen shots. Not sure which did it but he's improved a lot. Antinol pricing is so expensive but I don't want to risk taking him off

    • Look into Blackmores Lyprinol, same active ingredients.

    Fish oil, glucosamine and chondroitin

  • ok thanks all for the tips :)

went with zamipet 500g some hemp + chia seed and some other joint treats

pet warehouse 40% off sale +11% cashrewrads :)

    • Ask your vet about cartrophen/pentosan injections. Try a course which is four weekly injections and see if they improves.

I personally use Joint Guard. “Joint treats” are mostly just fillers.

If you can afford it also get Antinol, otherwise look into Blackmores Lyprinol which is the human version with the same active ingredients.

Make sure your dog isn’t overweight as well, which would put a lot of stress on their joint.
