VINTAGE: The 2019 growing season started with mild weather and below-average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop.

STYLE: The Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale is not only the perfect region for Shiraz but is also very well suited to Spanish varieties such as Tempranillo, and this blend brings together the best elements of both. The final blend is 70% Shiraz and 30% Tempranillo.

NOSE: The dark plum and chocolate notes from McLaren Vale Shiraz are complimented by the complex rich notes of tobacco, clove, and leather.

PALATE: This blend has fantastic complexity, length, and subtle tannin. Perfect summer drinking!

CELLARING: Drink now to 2027

  • Hey RD!
Have had a few of your wines in the past and really enjoyed them. Where does this one sit in terms of sweetness? I'm not a big fan of sweeter Shiraz wine, does this head into more dry/savoury territory with the tempranillo in the mix?

    • +1

Hey @TheFunkySalsa. I had a bottle last night - purely research - it's certainly savoury and the tempranillo brings a lightness to the shiraz, a little more light on its feet than your average shiraz. We're pulling alcohols back these days (and, therefore, sweetness) - little 2/3 year project. Enjoy@ RD :-)

  • Want. But can't really justify until my Mouredre turns up.

Unless it turns comes today, then I'll to reconsider.

    • Few new releases coming - that time of year…… Enjoy when it arrives that one and this one are the current wines of choice at Chez Hardy. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Not expired I just placed an order 1 min ago.

    • Thanks mate for pointing it out! have reinstated it. Cheers RD :-)

      • You're welcome.
