How Slow Is Auspost in Your Area?

Ordered a moka pot from Myer, which was sent through Auspost, from Melbourne to Melbourne address, already 15 days, the item seems missing in transition…
Asked Myer, they can only raise some investigation, and expecting response in another week.
Should I have any expectation?

  • Have had very mixed delivery times with Aus Post over the past few years, so can't really give an exact answer

Can the downvoter please explain why this post deserved a downvote?

      • +1

That was pitchfork corp. They need outrage for profits.

        • -4

Honestly, the downvoting button should be eradicated from OzBargain.

You want to disapprove of something, make a post and explain why.

      • +2

3 losers who likely work at Auspost so far.

  • +1

same metro delivery should not be anything over 7 days generally

  • +2

Melb to Melb Parcel Post is f-'d at the moment. 2-3 weeks has been common for me.

  • +1

    my Current history so far

ADL TO MEL - 27 days for delivery
MEL TO MEL - 17 days and counting
CHINA TO MEL - 55 days for delivery.
QLD TO MEL - 32 days and counting

  • +1

auspost is completely swamped atm and are outsourcing to other couriers to manage their massive backlog. their efficiency now isnt a very good representation of their normal operations.

  • +2

Australia Post logistics is absolutely $#@%ed at the moment. No other way to put it.

Even their tracking updates are stuffed.

    • +2

their tracking system is still in the 1980s… so ancient and useless.

      • Yes lol they tell you when it leaves and then they tell you when it arrives usually about 3 days after you get it.

    • +2

Australia Post logistics is absolutely $#@%ed at the moment. No other way to put it.

I didn't hear about Australia Post being taken over by Amarex (formerly Fastway)

    • And they delay by an extra day if you select pick-up at local post office online, even though the delivery is a week away. Weird, huh?

  • Bought something from Melb (sent to Syd) in the last few weeks, and also sent something to Melb.
Both took over 2 weeks for delivery

Local Syd-Syd still longer than usual, around 4-5 days instead of the usual 2-3 days

  • I made an online order from an Australian shop 4 weeks ago and still haven't gotten the parcel - tracking says it's in 'transit' still. Since then I ordered multiple items from China (Banggood) all of which arrived in less than 2 weeks.

Not sure how the system works or the sorting arrangements, but my guess is all the local post gets sorted at a different facility to international. Local possibly still has massive backlog due to lockdowns.

    • +1

      massive backlog due to lockdowns

Only Australia Post still living in lock down the rest of us has moved on.

Plus they are considered essential workers. If Tesla can put up tents to put together cars by hand, I'd suggest Aust post can put together tents to do some manual sorting. I am guessing the problem isn't with the sorting machines but the people, indoor ventilation, so doing out door in semi open tents for better ventilation would help. But obviously the bosses at Aust post only knows the different methods of production for Cartier watches.

And when they do and the price of a parcel doubles to cover the additional manpower needed?

I work for a sparky who has spent the last 5 weeks setting up warehouses around Melbourne to store auspost parcels. No sooner has he done a warehouse and it’s full.

The are not “living in lockdown” they are literally dealing with parcels volumes never seen before.

        • +2

And when they do and the price of a parcel doubles to cover the additional manpower needed?

And Fedex, UPS, DHL doubled their prices?

I work for a sparky who has spent the last 5 weeks setting up warehouses around Melbourne to store auspost parcels. No sooner has he done a warehouse and it’s full.

And warehouses are FREE? I didn't realise they have gone into the storage business? If they are charging $10 for a parcel then spending money to build warehouses instead of delivering them is very good business sense. You know you can't book income unless you deliver the service. It is a sure fire way to bankruptcy.

The are not “living in lockdown” they are literally dealing with parcels volumes never seen before.

I work in logistics and I can tell you logistics companies are making money like never before because freight rates and volumes are up. But if you don't deliver you don't get paid. Even if people did pay you up front you don't deliver you can't take it as income. So if you want to spend 10% of the $9 you got putting in warehouses instead of putting on staff to deliver the item that I'm sure they'd find good company in retirement home for management of Enron, Worldcom, Lehmans etc.

      • Totally agree

  • +3

    15 days?? LOL… thats nothing

    • And that's something amusing for other countries to hear

  • +1

@sanrs give it one star rate on productreview.com.au and someone might come to you for the details & tracking#.

A few years ago rated it there for a 14days+ delay on an express domestic delivery.

  • -1

How much longer is the COVID excuse going to wash?

It's coming up on two years and they still haven't added workers because that would lose profit. The private sector is hopeless.

    • +2

      The private sector is hopeless.

It is nowhere near private. Auspost is owned by Australian government. If it was private like UPS, DHL or FedEx they would be piling on workers to meet demand. Letters is where Auspost is losing money NOT parcels.

Last year before Christmas they had international express post (letter) to the UK sit in Melbourne for 1 calendar month (when it is suppose to reach UK within 1 week) once it got to the UK (under lock down) it was delivered in 3 days. In the end the other side was so unhappy I had to send it via UPS and it got there within 5 days.

    • It’s not an excuse though….

        Pull the other leg.

My express post parcel from Sydney on 26th October is stuck in limbo after coming into Melbourne Airport, then Somerton with the misfortune of landing in Melbourne North. Now the website says don't contact them until 11th November.

I ordered from Kogan on Thursday and got notification it is getting delivered today.

Australia Post is just a shambles if express post is slow post and normal parcel post is express.

  • +1

Best I can determine is the main hold-up in Melbourne is occurring with parcels transiting through the Sunshine depot.
For example, this week we received an Express Mail item that was sitting at Sunshine for 8 days.
Once an item leaves the Sunshine depot for your local parcel distribution centre then delivery is taking only a couple of days.

  • +3

Took a month for one of my parcels to come (within Australia) from target

  • +3

Victoria: Express Post from Sydney 26th Oct 2020, original delivery date 3 Nov (after Melbourne Cup day) now saying delayed and don't call them until after 11 Nov.

Went Sydney to Somerton then Melbourne North (29th Oct) is the black hole it is in.

    • +2

      Update on this one.

Ordered 2 items from Kogan on Thursday 4th November and Australia Post is saying it will get delivered today out of Somerton depot. Normal parcel post. Australia Post is just being stupid. No excuses. Express post is slow post and normal post is faster. Just nuts.

  • +1

Can't speak for the wider logistics chain of Auspost but my local delivery person is fantastic. Usually delivers in the morning, knows me by name and would leave my parcels in a safe place if no one is home.

Complete opposite from my previous residence where Auspost sent my item to a suburb with the same name but different state.

    • +1

but my local delivery person is fantastic

You gotta feel for the postie at the end of the chain, he'd be coppin all sorts of shit from people waiting for parcels when they actually arent even getting near his PO to pickup n deliver

Deliveries are super slow to Perth at the moment. Express would be 3-4 days and regular would be 2 weeks +.

One thing I have noticed is that big heavy things come quicker. I suspect Australia Post delivers stuff to Perth when it gets annoying to have it sitting around.

My MTB helmet sent regular arrived way before a USB cable sent express. Same thing with buying 4kg of printer filament, it gets delivered super quick.

  • It's been pretty awesome for WA (for me anyway). My Amazon delivery from Melbourne was shipped yesterday and was just delivered to me, delivery was expected for next Tuesday. Usually it will take another day to be transferred to the sorting centre and then onboard.

    • Must be the luck of the draw. I've been waiting aboit a month for a parcel from Sydney.

  • +2

AusPost is luck-of-the draw at the moment.

Example 1: Item sent standard parcel post ex Brisbane. Delivered next day to Sydney.
Example 2: Item sent Express Post ex Sydney to Brisbane. Was delivered four days later after a holiday in Sunshine, VIC.
Example 3: Item (international) arrived at my local post office 13 days ago and still needs to be sorted and walked the 50m to the Parcel Locker.

    • luck-of-the draw at the moment

It shouldn't be. Express Post labels are programmed into the system as express / priority. Why should it be luck of the draw? Imagine paying for business class, scan the barcode and having to board with last of those in economy.

      • +2

        It shouldn't be.

        No sht Sherlock 😛

Express Post labels are programmed into the system as express / priority.

Yes, and I was able to track the parcel as it went on its extended road trip. Didn't make it get there any faster.

Imagine paying for business class, scan the barcode and having to board with last of those in economy.

Better analogy: Imagine paying for a direct flight Sydney to Los Angeles and, instead, your plane stops in Fiji then onto Auckland before doing 500 laps of LA airspace before landing.

        • Wasn't have a go at you.

My express post parcel from 26/10 is still stuck with a don't call them until 11/11.

My order on Thursday with normal parcel post arranged on Saturday.

          • @netjock:

Wasn't have a go at you.

I know, and I am sorry if my reply came across otherwise.

I'd seen the experience you shared elsewhere in the thread. The frustration is real.

  • +2

Mel - Mel took about 4 weeks in recent lockdwon

  • +1

What I don't get is why we have delays up here in QLD. No lockdowns, no huge backlog. I have an express post letter that is being sent from 20 minutes drive away, and it's taking 3 business days.

I can understand Melbourne and Sydney having huge backlogs though.

  • +3

My AusPost customer experience has been pretty miserable for the past 2 or so months. It seems that the bottleneck is at Sunshine Sorting Facility, where parcels will arrive and go off on a detour across Victoria and Australia… In 5 cases below the parcels arrived in Sunshine VIC but left the facility to Bayswater for example. Makes no sense. The below is a mix of registered, express and international consignments.

Consignment 1: MEL to MEL 4 weeks and counting
Consignment 2: SYD to MEL 5 weeks and counting
Consignment 3: MEL to MEL 5 weeks and counting
Consignment 4: SYD to MEL 2 weeks and counting
Consignment 5: SYD to MEL 6 weeks and counting
Consignment 6: MEL to JPN 7 weeks and counting

    • +2

Sunshine VIC but left the facility to Bayswater

Lucky they don't run the ambulance service. Imagine that! Should have gone to sorting facility with capacity in the first place.

      • Agreed 25h you there. Funnily enough there is an Ambulance Station in close proximity to the Sunshine Sorting Facility.

  • I have many things in transit to Sunshine. They just hover there.
They either suddenly are about to be delivered, or it pops up with a "Delayed - waiting to be processed" in the tracking. It looks to be getting slower.

    • Same here. Most of my inbound consignments are now "Delayed - waiting to be processed", blaming the pandemic for the delays.

  • +2

I have an express parcel that's just been sitting with Aus Post waiting for processing for 2 weeks now. Sigh.

  • My latest parcels via the AusPost Tracking App, all to Brisbane & standard post (except the StarTrack one)

    • Melb - Sent 13th, delivered on the 15th (StarTrack)
    • Sydney - Sent 5th, delivered on the 11th
    • Melb - Sent 20th, delivered on the 27th
    • Mackay - Sent 1st Nov, delivered 3rd Nov

    Not horrible, have seen worse

    • +1

StarTrack is fine. Just standard Australia Post doesn't know the difference between Express Post vs normal post it seems.

  • -4

Problem with Auspost is shortage of workers. Most of the workers used to be the international people. Why - because they need the money and have no government support. When the Aussies enquire about the job and find out how hard it is, they actually say 'nah I'll stick to the dole'. My brother works for Auspost, he's working 6/7 days a week up to 12 hour days.

"well why doesn't Auspost just pay their workers more" - good question, we all would love to be paid more, ask your boss the question and see what they say.

SYD -> MELB | Sent 29th September -> sitting in facility 10 minutes away from me
MELB-> MELB | Sent 28th October-> sitting in facility 10 minutes away from me
US,Portland-> MELB | Sent 23rd October-> sitting in facility 10 minutes away from me

Anything from Amazon, still getting it in a few days. Timelines are correct or earlier. Auspost… haven't gotten anything yet.

  • Generally one to two weeks in Adelaide, for local and interstate letters and parcels.

  • Waiting on 3 large items to arrive from Vic, and SA. All are in Sydney, now have to wait for them to be sorted and sent to NEXT facility…

I am envisaging bc of their size, the courier is saying to themself, "I'm not taking that today!"… and the next, and the next.

42 days Perth to Newman normal letter
22 days express post Sydney to Newman

I'm so conditioned now, that if I'm told it's being posted, I insist on tracking and Mark a day 6 weeks away in the diary as a reminder too follow up

  • +1

i ordered Tea from MEL to SYD twice over the last 2 months (same shop). 1st time it took 24 days, second time took 7 days. Seems to fluctuate a lot.

Aust post delays are up to 3 months in my area. I had something I ordered in September from Sydney to Melbourne delivered yesterday.

The more urgent it is the longer the mail takes. Just mailed my Samsung phone to get a new screen via the Samsung service centre and Auspost tracking says, 4 days later, it is still at the GPO (Devonport) where I dropped it. It only has to go 300km to another GPO. At the same time, I mailed an envelope to the same city (Hobart) which arrived within a couple of days. But my phone is urgent, I cannot live without it as it turns out, and I can't get it followed up by Auspost till 15 days after posting or Samsung till 7 business days after posting… Mail is always frustrating when it is urgent. Another example was an express document delivery to the FBI in the USA for some visa issues. Tracking said it was awaiting pickup in the USA for weeks!!! Many phone calls later (you try calling 'FBI'!!!) it turned out it had arrived in the normal timeframe just hadn't been scanned… What are the chances! The more urgent something is the worse the service - MURPHIES LAW!

    • +2

more urgent it is the longer the mail takes

Yes! My express post from 26th October is in limbo and told not to contact them until 11 Nov. My Kogan normal package from this Thursday is getting delivered on Saturday.

Australia post is really looking to disrupt its own business model.

      • +3

Ditto, my monitor from gearbite sent by express post on the 21st of october is still "in transit". Yet I've received multiple regular non exress parcels order after this date

How could an express parcel from Melbourne to Melbourne tahir longer than a parcel from china?
Both gearbite and ausposts advice has been to wait till a certain number of days passes before we do something..

        So frustrating

        • +1

How could an express parcel from Melbourne to Melbourne tahir longer than a parcel from china?

Maybe they know who really calls the shots.

But seriously they need to check if some fat finger programmer flipped the 0s and 1s that turned express into slow post

  • +1

Here in Sydney chances of delivery are remote to none. I only use Parcel Collect now as the staff at the local PO outlet are great. When the Parcel Collect notifications failed recently, they kept an eye out f o r my parcels and kept them aside for when we checked once a week. Thankfully Australia Post fixed the notifications a week or so ago.

  • +2

I've had a large parcel arrive from overseas since 9 September, still waiting for it to be delivered. Sitting in their warehouse awaiting sorting two suburbs away.

  • +2

Sitting in their warehouse awaiting sorting two suburbs away.

Funny you say that - Raised a complaint & threatened to come down to the sorting area & search for it. 24 hours later it was delivered.
I fail to see how fat cat Execs are given bonuses when Aus Post are simply not doing their job.
    Absolutely woeful.

    • +2

They assure me it is not lost and just awaiting sorting. I have a feeling they are piling new stuff on top of older stuff, like they did with sending parcels overseas during early- to mid-2020 when air mail was being diverted to go by sea. I say this because some online orders I have placed last week have arrived this week.

Thanks for the tip. I've just threatened on FB to come over there tomorrow on day off and find it myself. See what happens.

    • So guess what. A day after my threat to come by the sorting facility with some paperwork to try and get it, the parcel started showing movement and got quickly delivered. Thanks for your help!

  • Mine's been fine.

One dispatched (regular eParcel)last Tuesday 2/11 from Homebush NSW; Received today in Perth WA

Another one (Express Post) dispatched last Thursday 4/11 dispatched from Spotswood VIC; Received today in Perth WA, which meets their express service guarantee as it's 2 business days to non-CBD Perth from interstates.

  • +1

Knowing myer they probably didn't even send it for a week like my warranty job that was sitting there for 3 weeks before they decided to send it to the repair company

  • +2

How is it possible that I just received a parcel I ordered from AliExpress 11 days ago yet my express post from interstate is still idle nearly 3 weeks later 🤦🏽‍♂️

  • +2

Hi all, how's people's experience been once investigation starts after the 15 days past estimated delivery date? My 16th day was yesterday so i've added a comment in my case to please start investigating asap. I'm pretty miffed about waiting nearly a month for it now and it's a reasonably expensive item.

If they consider it lost, my only hope is that i can get a refund or replacement through Aliexpress (item sent from Australia location via Aus Post with signature on delivery) even though it's obviously not the seller's fault.

    • +1

Mine came in after ~ 3.5 weeks, after <1 week I raised the investigation request.
      Hopefully this may finish soon…

  • I've 4 separate orders from Aliexpress since April and not one was delivered despite the tracking shows the items having reached Australia. So the losers are the sellers through refunding and the winners are either wrong owners or delivery person(s) taking advantage of the situation.

    • +1

The items are being sent via Cainio Super Economy or Yanwen i assume? My items coming via Aliexpress standard shipping have been arriving crazy fast the past few months - 2 weeks or under!

  • +2

I arranged a samsung repair in Devonport Tasmania. I dropped phone at GPO Devonport and was meant to go to Hobart GPO where samsung service people pick up. It took 20 days to get there! Samsung did absolutely nothing about it except repeatedly telling me to wait another 15 business days … utterly frustrating without my phone, not to mention paying 500+ for screen repair!!!

Covid 19 and 911 were not valid excuses as we have zero community covid in Tasmania.
