Samsung Odyssey G9 was recently on sale for 1999 , superior specs overall including twice the refresh rate at 240

    • I'm not sure it's worth an extra 33%, noting that most graphics cards are going to struggle to get to 120fps at 5140x1440 and additionally the CRG9 has significantly better SDR brightness.

The curvature difference is worth noting as well (the G9 is much deeper owing to the more aggressive curve, which may or may not be wanted) and there seem to have been some QC issues with the G9 (at one point it was withdrawn from market).

It definitely is worth it, the CRG9 is also a much slower panel as well (typical VA dark smearing etc), none of that on the G9.

        • VA ghosting is due to VA's much higher contrast ratio, not because the panels are slower (they're transitioning from much darker/brighter colours, so it takes longer). But at 120hz, it really shouldn't be an issue unless it's an horrifically bad panel.

Bigger monitors also mean more IPS glow, but once again, shouldn't be a problem for flagship products.

          • @iseeyou1312: Yes you're correct, these are both VA panels, but the CRG9 is your typical VA that has black smearing in the darker regions, while the G9 does not and is significantly faster as a result

      • better to future proof for new graphics cards, some games that are less GPU intensive hit 240fps easily

        • Which games can reach average 240fps at 5140x1440p? The usual old CS:GO?

          • @edfoo: So instead of playing some games at 240Hz on a better monitor you'd play all games at a lower refresh rate on a worse monitor? Because you can't play all games at 240hz …

            • @Diji1: Not everyone is competitive FPS gamer needing 240fps. 120Hz or 144Hz monitors are great for many people.
If you say that, the next time you'll be saying 240Hz is not enough, you need a 360Hz monitor for gaming.

        • That's hardly future proofing. By the time more games adopt 5140x1440, way better panels will be out. Early adopters are always punished.

man 240 fps is very hard to get on recent games from any other gpus.

              • @Usemame: Yep. There's instructions under the rewards tab. Should take you less than 5mins to make an account.

FYI I ordered this from TGGC on the 5th of September, didn't have stock available, it was delayed through to November and this week was called to advise they had no ETA from the supplier

    So YMMV

  • Coukd Xbox Series X or PS5 drive the best out of this monitor?

Console games aren't usually well optimised for unusual aspect ratios like this and instead are focused on the normal 16:9 ratio (ie normal TVs). Even a lot of PC games aren't well optimised since even if it can fill the resolution, some titles will need to move HUD elements/UI elements and also adjust for perspective. That all being said, I still love having a 32:9 monitor.

  • @Moostyle are you not a fan of your AW3821DW? Not enough screen real estate?
