Yale Unity Entrance Lock with Connect Bridge $649 (+ Bonus $100 VISA Gift Card via Redemption) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

50

Went and purchased this lock from a locksmith roughly a month ago(QLD) and I came across a week later with this cash back offer. I can confirm that the cashback can be claimed from any seller provided you have a receipt/invoice to show- you will have to apply through the Yale website.

The lock has been working great, no more keys to think about when I'm leaving my house. Works well with Apple Homekit. I also got the Connect Bridge so I can remotely access my entry door. This is perfect for homeowners who may want to use their spare rooms for Airbnb.

  • What's the point of this lock?

    • +3

      to secure a door

      • +2

How do you justify its price of $649?

        • It appears to be an integrated smartlock. I personally went with 'Lockly' and for something that is wifi connected there are no cheap units regardless of brand. Also id suggest its the kind of item that you dont want to skimp on.

@Gebb: You can still get the Lockwood for $100. (Same company ASSA Abloy)
Comes with Zigbee, so integrates with your home automation system if you have one.

            • @bargaino: Again I wouldn't risk saving a few $ protecting physical and online access to my home.I dont recall seeing this brand or model when I was researching our home unit.

              • +2

@Gebb: Similar model is sold under the Yale label in Bunnings. It is all ASSA Abloy. You cannot have "researched" very hard.
Not heard of Lockwood? An old Australian brand name they bought up.

              • @Gebb: Not everyone's buying it for their front door…

            • @bargaino: what smart lock are you running and why did you chose it?

              • @Gebb: The deal linked above. Was easy to install in place of old deadlock, and has Zigbee, so can control from Home Assistant.
Those are left over from a Telstra bundle, and selling at 1/3 of normal retail.

  • Did you check if it can be opened with just a magnet placed close to relay?

    Love this lock.

  • Is it an easy diy if I'm replacing an existing lock? Ie will the existing screw holes be a match with this

  • +4

That seems an exorbitant price to pay for a door lock in my opinion.

  • Does a lock exist where I can link it to the nfc in my phone and swipe my phone to unlock it?

    • It comes with two tags but I haven’t had the chance to activate or use them, I’ve just been using my apple watch and iphone.

      • Yeah I'd prefer to use the nfc already built into the phone that's all.

        • The lock uses the Bluetooth technology and if you have the Connect Bridge can be dine wirelessly. Imm not sure about using NFCs from your phone,

If you can’t afford it and you’re opinion is all about whinging why people buy this stuff then keep your opinions to yourself.

      A bit harsh?
OzB members have the ability to voice comments on items posted here (within the set guidelines).

      • +2

Yeah you can definitely voice your comments, but this post is a deal on this specific lock, and it is a deal. If you think it's overpriced for a lock, then you've missed the point. OP isn't posting saying this is a great price for a lock. OP isn't even saying it's a great price for a smart lock. He's saying it's a deal for this specific model lock, which I agree with. So what's the use of complaining about how expensive a lock can be?

        • +2

Why can't people voice their opinions?
If someone thinks this is a good deal, they can buy it, they can upvote the deal listing, they can add a comment about how good this is.
If people have different opinions, let them voice those. It is ok to have those, and maybe some of the people posting other similar products (that they think may be better solutions / deals), then we all gain from that shared knowledge. Or, just ignore all the comments.

If only positive comments are wanted, what is the point?

          • +1

@GG57: Did you even read my comment? My first line says you CAN voice your opinion. It just doesn't really add to anything if you're just bashing others about how people are spending their own money on things you don't think are a deal

  • The Eufy Smart Lock with WiFi is a very good unit.

    • you think it's worth it to get the wifi model? it's quite a lot more

After watching lock picking lawyer, lesson I learn is no point spending too much on a lock.
