Looking for a Decent Gaming Laptop - Budget $2500

Not sure how to describe this. Partner does not fully trust my skill at finding the best laptop for him but knowing how he uses his computer I think I have done well.

He basically; like me, plays one game which any modern graphics card other then Intel will do the job. And browses the internet, checking email along the way. But he wants the best he can get without waiting a month for shipping. He has not stated a $ limit but I have tried to keep it around the $2,000.00 - $2,500.00.

I think he could find an even less expensive one but he keeps gravitating to the more expensive laptops. I know strange, right? So any suggestion of a great lappy or desktop with a good graphics card will be taken into consideration.

I am only searching Dell ATM as I have a coupon for 100.00 to use. But will accept any other advice as a better brand/Models.

We need advice from the experts please and not from salesmen.

This is my second choice, keeping in mind he won't set a price @$2,299.00
Ryzen G15 gaming laptop

My 1st choice has a 30 day delivery and was not acceptable for him

This is my third choice @$2,719.00
ALIENWARE M15 R6 GAMING LAPTOP

My 4th choice @$1,759.00
G15 Gaming Laptop

He would prefer we find one which has the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3070 8GB GDDR6 card in it, but at dell they all have about a 30 day wait for delivery, as in none of their stock in AU currently has that card

All advice is appreciated. I did lead him to my 1st post re my lappy but he wanted me to create a fresh post and get some expert advice specifically for him. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/657358

  • May I ask what game you/he plays? If you don't need to spend <$2k on hardware, then don't.

    • Secondlife and from my last discussion in here I was informed that all the newer graphics cards will work for this game. And I do agree with you about spending less.

Problem is in the past 8-10 years we have had issues related to the graphics in the game when playing the game, of course that was with laptops which are now about 8-10 years old. But he still remembers those issues and wants to avoid them in the future.

  • Suggested ALIENWARE M15

learning how to make use of the poll, lol

    • +2

The Alienware is pricier but it does have a better build quality / chassis as well as a LCD display that refreshes at 165hz.

However, that sort of spec is wasted considering he isn't playing any competitive FPS game, so the Alienware is sort of overkill for the need.

  • Suggested Dell G15 5511 (Intel)

again this silly polling feature requires I make a post to add a suggestion

  • Considered the Asus Zephyrus G series?

On another note, if either of you is able to salary sacrifice the machine you'll find it costs a lot less.

Old example but still relevant, I think (I'm not an accountant):

  • Honestly something like this should be fine for what you need unless he's a dedicated framerate watcher/bitcoin miner.

Don't have to spend >$2000 for a decent laptop these days.

Although if you were i'd go the Asus G14/G15 line

    • That deal has expired!

      • But another is just around the corner.
        Singles day and black friday.
