Best Value 85 Inch TV?

I used to rent in a fairly small place and the old 50 inch screen was great because the living room was quite small.

The living room we have now is about 2.5x larger than that. I could move the couch forward about 3 metres to replicate the old living room setup but that just wouldn't work.

I'm not a gamer so I don't think I need 120hz, I like good image quality with realistic blacks and I have bluerays, Netflix and prime to watch. I also stream through Kodi.

Budget undecided. It seems like LG, Samsung and Sony are the three big names here. But are hisense or TCL any good?

No budget decided as of yet, but hoping to pay up to $5000.

I feel like I'm still about 2-3 years away from decent affordability although I did see quite a few of last year's models going for about $2-3k at the jbhifi show floor right now.

Any thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

For value the Aldi one 100% https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/661192

    Crazy cheap for the size.

    • Value yes quality no way op's req "I like good image quality with realistic blacks"

doesn't look like he's ready to buy for another 2-3 years lol

Would suggest to choose best of the lot. Nothing wrong with last year's model especially if it is to tie you over for a few year.

  • I bought the Samsung QN85A 85" for $5200 recently (JB dropped price from $6500), can't recommend it highly enough. It has the same panel as the QN90A (IPS panel) - there isn't actually a 85" QN90A sold in Aus, I assume because they are very similar.

  • Wait are you saying your still 2-3 year away from purchasing ?

    • If the best tech in TVs today costs about $5-8k then perhaps I should just wait 2-3 years for that tech to come down in price.

But if the second best tech from 2019-2020 at 85inches costs $2-4k now, then I can buy it now and be fine. Note what I said about jbhifi floor stock..

Just asking now cos I'm curious. I can buy now, but I can also wait.
