  • Great find op. Has backlit keyboard and USB C, wonder if you could charge the laptop itself via USB C port?

    • Especially at this price point, expect not in today's tech. An oldschool barrel is still cheaper and takes less engineering.

If it does support usb charging, then it's a nice perk!

      • +2

Yes, true. Many lower cost Chromebooks have had that standard for years and now most have one each side ( but no barrel charger ).

I think the cost difference is negligable, but laptop manufacturers like to keep better features for more expensive models. They also like to

be able to sell their own propriatory barel brick charger as spare or replacements.

This also has a aluminium lid/cover and only 1.65 Kg which is light for 15.6" laptop.

Just not sure if screen is an IPS ( reading other sites to find out, but no model number listed on BingLee ).

Iirc, usbc cost a dollar or something. It's literally negligible, and like you said, are deliberate design choices.

      Unfortunately no

Also very washed out screen. 51% sRGB.

After using multiple laptops with both cheap and expensive displays, I'd rather have a high-quality display with sub-par colours rather than a low-quality screen with good colours.

    • Acer web site says "USB Type-C port: USB 3.2 Gen 1 (up to 5 Gbps)". So the answer is No.

  • Does this have two SODIMM slot? I have tried to google briefly but couldn't find the detailed spec.

    • +1

It should, most laptops that do allow some sort of upgradeability will have at least 2 slots.

      • I've been mostly using Lenovo business laptops in the past - they've been slowly phasing out SODIMM slots by moving into soldered+1slot to now all soldered with zero expandability.

  • OOS now

    • Wow, that's quick. Was still looking for screen specs whether IPS or not.

    • Still in stock but back at $999

  • Historically, Acer's build quality and reliability has been poor - but I have been away from the laptop market for maybe 3-4 years. Has it improved any?

  • Damn wish I could have jumped on this, my mum needs a new laptop for accounting around this price range

    • let’s hope that harvey or jb have some similar deals on the aspires ….

  • Anyone else received a cancellation. Apparently they have a supply issue, and the model is discontinued so they can't get new stock. They've offered refund, or an NX.A19SA.00E (which looks to me like an almost identical machine with the addition of a fingerprint scanner). So the offer is for me to pay $240 extra (total $869) for the product I ordered and paid for, including a fingerprint scanner I don't want or need!! Feeling a little put off by Bing Lee at this point.
