Cheap Mobile Plan That Throttles Data

Hi all,

I'm looking for a cheap mobile plan with only a tiny bit of data (ideally 1Gb or less) suitable for a child, that throttles data or stops data access after the included data is used up. Many of the plans these days automatically add a data pack, which I don't want.

Thanks

Belong will cut you back to 256kbps when you reach your limit which is useless for most things except reading text and emails

Felix - unlimited data but capped at 20Mbps, only $35 a month.

Uses Vodafone network which works great in my area.

    • I'm with Felix. Loving the uncapped data

    • Currently with amaysim and they have been auto adding a data pack. I have contacted them to see if that can be disabled.

        • I think it's a postpaid (came from Ovo), and that page says they automatically add a data top up for postpaid

You might be able to find a $10 Woolworths mobile prepaid plan, in store (you can't get it online anymore) but I believe it stops after all the data is used, i think it is 1/2GB

You're looking at things the wrong way - setup data restrictions on the device, and just sign up to a 12 month prepaid like boost for around the equivalent to $15/month

    • But aren't those data restrictions on the device trivial to turn off?

      • yes but it's call discipline.

          suitable for a child

          No kids?

      • As above, if they're old enough to navigate phone menus through to settings, they're old enough to know that their data won't be replenished if they use it all up - repercussions.

        • Yeah, that's the thing. At the moment it is replenished automatically. That's what I want to turn off/disable.

Basic mobile data plans from optus voda and telstra is $15/mo. Throttled to 1mbps after allowance is used, usually 5-10gb

  • essentially any prepaid plan does this

    • But when the credit runs out you're out of calls/texts too right?

      • nah, the calls/txt should last until the prepaid's expiry date
