Plans have changed recently so not sure if you can activate on the $25 20GB plan or the $35 40GB plan, time will tell I guess.

If you can then I will add this option -

Option 2 (3 Months 26GB) - Activate on the $25 20GB per month plan. Then switch to the $15 3GB per month plan for the 2nd & 3rd month. The first 3 months cost is covered ($45 starter pack credit plus $20 referral credit) and data rolls over every month or can be gifted. $10.00 will be left over for a 4th month on the $15 plan.

These are handy for sim slutting between the Kogan 60GB 90 day plan $14.90.

    • +11

that's crap they removed the $10 plan. I guess all good things must come to an end…..

      • And discontinued $40 value pack.

        • i've got around that by buying the $80 pack from gumtree/facebook/ebay. should be able to get it for less than $20. i guess it's not too bad still with the added $20 referral credit. can get 6 months (activate on $25 first month, next 5 months downgrade to $15)

    • +2

3 Months 46GB on $35|40GB plan is better, no credit left after 3 months.

      • Are you confirming you can activate the new $45 starter pack on any plan other than the $15?

        • My comment is only based on theory. The $45 pack was on sale for the same price a week ago in Coles. Someone may be able to confirm it.

Previously, a $40 value pack could be used to activate on the $25 plan (or $10 plan which was removed later).

        • +1

If it helps, i just ported over using a $40 starter pack and chose the $15 plan.

          • @TurnipHead: This means $40 pack can be used for up to 4 months now.

            • +1

@Neoika: Sorry my bad, I misspoke.
I was supposed to say I ported over, chose the $25 plan and then switched over to the $15 plan for next month (as per the Arthur Finger / watchnerd wiki).

          • @TurnipHead: Yes but that's the old starter pack, this new one is a $45 starter pack.

            • @WatchNerd: $40 pack is discontinued, but some people still have some.

              • @Neoika: Yes of course, so still waiting on confirmation that the new $45 starter pack can be activated on plans other than the $45.

    • +10

      Lol @ “sim slutting”.

    • +1

I can't even see a $15/month plan on their website

      • +2

I think only available to current customers (ie you can change over after 2nd month)

  • +2

What would be the best way to activate and then gift all the data.

    • +2

Use this hack for existing customers -

      • Activate in a family or friends name & email. Use your referral code to give yourself $20 credit. Make sure you actually use the new sim in a spare phone so you can't be accused of breaching the "Customer Terms". Gift the data to yourself gradually or just before you port out/cancel.
      • does the billing cycle date of activation still valid?
I remembered there's a certain date you have to avoid activation to get an additional month since belong won't charge if missed the billing date but charge to the next billing date

        • No the billing date is the day you activate now & it's the same date every month.

  • How do you get added to the referral credit list? Switched recently myself would love to be on the Belong list.

    • +3

In OB, go My Account > Edit > Referrals then scroll down to Belong, it has instructions to add your code.

  • can you use this for apple watch SIM?

If not - any other suggestions of the resellers rather than Telstra/Voda/Optus?

    • +1

      None….sadly….

  • -1

this is for a month or 12mths?

    • This is for 1 month, but read comments above and the OP description to increase it to 2 months. Data rolls over, as long as your keep your service active.

  • +1

Don’t forget, like the OP said:

Before you activate make sure you get a referral code from a friend already with Belong or the OzBargain Belong pool for an additional $20 credit

    • Last time I tried the pool didn't work for me ;(

  • one question if i use my Belong NBN to refer the code works for 20 credit, But how can the NBN get $20 credit?

    • +3

If you're a mobile customer, your invite code will only work for customers connecting to Belong mobile. If you're an internet customer, your invite code will only work for customers connecting to Belong internet. See here.

      • Ah wish I knew this. No wonder I didn’t get credit. Oh well only $20 lost

  • nbn account won't get 20 credit

  • Is the double data trick still working?

    • Double data worked out to be 80GB which is what you get now with this new $45 starter pack.

Would highly recommend staying away from Belong. Non-existent customer support with this mob. Took weeks to activate a SIM after Covid was taking off last year, and clearly it’s still happening to others even now. Multiple other issues too as per the reviews https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/belong-mobile

    • -1

Covid certainly did cause some problems when it was taking off, was a really bad time to be porting.
Member TurnipHead just ported over and has reported no issues.

You can contact them via messaging a "support request" in your account or Facebook
      https://m.me/BelongAU

    • Rinse and repeat for every company, everywhere.

      Took me minutes, if that.

      • Exactly took about 30 mins from Voda for me

    • I ported over from Telstra like a month ago, took 20 mins.

  • OK, I have 12 months from the purchase date to activate.
But, how much time do I have to use the 80 GB? Any limitation? 12 months or unlimited?

    • +1

You can move to the cheapest plan after the 1st month and stay there as long as you want, data rolls over every month.

The cheapest plan is $15 3GB per month.

      • Thanks,
But, you didn't answer my original question. How long the 80 GB SIM card last?

You say transfer to other plans and stay there for ever… But $15 for 3 GB is so expensive for a plan! Yes, it is transferred month by month, but I am also paying $15 per month for nothing!

        • +1

Your original 80GB is banked and rolls over every month for as long as you remain an active customer with Belong - in other words, it could be "forever".

Then, you will accrue another 3GB per month on the $15 plan - which also includes unlimited national calls and SMS.

        • I agree with you that their current low data (1 & 3 GB) plans are so expensive.
I joined up with them a few years ago with the double data deal + referral code, great value/data amount.
Once I use all the data up I'll most likely leave to a cheaper offer that banks data over.

Prefer to have 1 low price sim plan and keep it's number long term as my main usage, calls only and small amount of data.
And 1 - 2 plans for big data, for torrents and downloading Steam games, YouTube HD, etc.

Been using/switching from Circles (once), Kogan 4-5 times ($14.90 deals) and now Felix for big data amount for good prices.
I now sadly need to cut back on how much I pay for mobiles plans to around/less than $15pm.
What helps is my local library are now open again.

          • @OrbDaggerZ: Thanks for all the explanations.

I have also been porting to/from Kogan / Catch Connect (10 times). It used to be cheaper ( $5 per month), but now a bit more expensive.

            • @mkowarkski: How was Catch?, never tried them, I think they dropped their deal that was similar (?) to Kogan yeah?, before I did.

Luckily I had no issues with any of them porting wise or new sign ups.

              • +1

@OrbDaggerZ: For us, catch connect is better in terms of coverage and signal (inner suburbs of Melb - Caulfield).

Yes, those $5 Catch Connect are not availalbe anymore. But Kogan still have them: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/590391.

My Catch Connect is going to end in July. I will jump 1 month to Kogan, the again to Catch or something else :D

                • @mkowarkski: I think Kogan $4.90 plan might be the way to go after using Felix free 1st month.
                  I still have a Kogan $14.90 active.

  • Any way you can drag this out to a three month plan? My Kogan is running out soon

  • Regarding referral, I have two numbers both under my name. One is with belong and the other one used by my wife (catch connect). Can I transfer my wife's number into belong using the referral? In this case as both numbers under my name and I am referring to myself?

    • +1

Yes, but you'll need to use a different email. Aside from that you can use all the same details and effectively get both sides of the referral.

  • Cant remember if sim cards purchases count under flybuy promo for those that have the spend $X for 4 weeks

And shame Belong took away the $10 plan

    • +3

Telstra has prior form for doing this - they find something that, despite their very best attempts (by being a bureaucratic dinosaur, usually being overpriced, outsourcing and cutting support everywhere) is actually a popular product that budget-conscious people like - and it's quite rare for this to happen, about once every 5 to 10 years on average - it's so rare and unexpected and unusual and accidental for them, that it takes management a year or two to comprehend what's going on - and then they ruin it until it's no longer attractive.

      Examples:
      * In the early 2000s, it was budget line rental for $10/month, so you could have a fax line, and make no/few calls, and it was actually surprisingly reasonably priced. Telstra fixed that by continuously jacking up line rentals and I think removing the budget line rental options.
      * From ~2015 until October 2017, Telstra prepaid mobile was also accidentally good value. They would frequently discount their $30 starter packs to $5 (or $4.75 after officeworks pricematch), and give you $30 of credit in google play (which you could cash-out to PayPal, losing ~45% in the process, but getting out what is effectively real cash), and give you a month of calls & texts & data, and you could transfer data around to get extra data due to various bugs. It appears they made such a complicated product that nobody at Telstra fully understood it, and eventually their customers understood it better than they did … and it was glorious! But then Telstra worked out that some people somewhere were actually having fun, and it wasn't them, and on their network no less, and they were not happy. So Telstra stopped that by fixing the data bouncing bugs, removing google play billing, and only reducing the starter pack price to $15. I'm sure management had a meeting in which they channelled the movie Office Space: "We uh, we fixed the glitch" - thus ensuring any accidental popularity was safely avoided.
      * By the end of 2020 / early 2021, Belong mobile (a division of Telstra), was getting mildly popular because you could get a decent enough service for a few months at not that much cost. So they took away the $10 plan, and the double data that you used to get in the first month, so Belong's value-proposition dropped very sharply. And they STILL haven't added voicemail in 2021 - I mean, seriously?! But again, defeat safely snatched from the jaws of victory … phew.

But I will say this for Telstra: At least they're consistent.

Awesome comment, I think I was on all of those band wagons.

      • +1

lol i remember buying music on google play on telstra prepaid credit! Good times

  • Customer service is More than Worst.., I have belong before and it take months to solve problem as they don’t have any customer care number.

    • Yep I don’t tweak my service now it’s set up and running. A month before covid hit I helped a friend fix their account details (error in email) so they could update their credit card. Could never have sorted it without an operator. All I can say is write down all your account details, usernames, logins, etc so you never need to contact belong.

  • $45 for $22.5 or $25 for $10 which one is better?

I was thinking "replacement" method after reaching the 10 friends limit.

    • i thought that 10 friends referral are being reset on yearly basis

      • Reading through the terms and conditions it doesn't say anything about resetting…

  • Still waiting for someone to confirm if this will activate on the cheaper plans or just the $45?

    • +3

I can confirm it works for cheaper plans. I just activated on the $25 plan, bought the SIM from Coles today.

  • Does anyone know when setting up a new sim, where/when you put the referral code?

*Edit: NVM, found it. It asks you to enter referral code after you select your payment method

  • Anyone remember how long it takes to get your own Invite/Referral code?

    • instant

  • +1

Just FYI you can get this for 10,000 Telstra points (if you sre a Telstra Plus member)

  • +1

$45 plan for $22.50 still available this week but it looks like the $25 for $10 is over. Updated the post.

The $25 plan for $10 is still available at Officeworks. & Woolworths until the 18th.
