I have found the food to be good at my local Highpoint Bavarian, BUT the service to be woeful. Last time I went, there was an hour wait for our food. Unacceptable, I'll not go back no matter how good the deal. I hear this is a problem that many have experienced.

    • 100%. I went last weekend for this deal and nobody came to serve us after 20 minutes. When I came in, I was told that someone would come to our table because you can't order this deal without an order being taken.

So at 20 minutes I flagged down a waiter and asked if we could be served.

Once we did place the order, it took about 40 minutes for the food to come out. From memory, there's only a 90 or 120 minute limit for the table… All you can eat isn't much use if you don't have the food.

The platter was actually pretty good. It was packed with food. The only criticism for the food are the wings you get served. They're meant to be hot and wings but I didn't really enjoy the flavour… It www probably the cheapest item on the platter and it was probably 1/5 or 1/4 of the platter.

  • the website has been updated now but still no details re: time restriction ….

  • +1

Must finish the platter first before receiving the next one

These places load up the mash, cabbage and wings on the platter so you get full quick and don’t get a lot of the good meats

    • Ah, no deal then.

    • +2

      Just do this

    • is there a $ penalty if you dont finish a platter?

  • +2

I dunno if this is much of a deal, if they want you to finish the platter before getting more. It might end up being a $5 donation to them.

Their $65 platter (which this sounds like) is already pretty massive, and I've shared with someone and walked away with leftovers. Granted, it was with a girl, but it was also a lot of leftovers. 2 or 3 hungry fat guys would be happy with a single serve

Then again, 2 or 3 hungry fat guys would be happier with more food, and another 1 or 2 of them would benefit from the half price second serve.

Also, does it say if leftovers are allowed with this? Fixed portion sizes are a waste if you can't, but amazing if you can.
I guess you can always sneak them into your bag

    • In your opinion, what were the best meats on the platter?

      • +3

The best meat is the Pork Knuckle, which is not part of this deal after all. So I take it all back, this deal sucks!
Well it might still be pretty good, but the Oktoberfest Tasting Platter drops the wings and adds pork knuckle, which is a great trade. Never tried the wings though, to be fair, and an unlimited number of them in all the sauces could go down splendid.

The crispy roast pork belly is also pretty great. As is the schnitzel and sausages. I also suggest the entire rest of the menu.

        • Agreed, I was also disappointed that the pork knuckle is not part of this deal. I have tried the wings and not a big fan, but then again I'm also not a big fan of the schnitzel.

  • +1

i need to see how much mash and other non meat they put in there before buying this meat platter for $35

  • +71

went here yesterday with a mate , definitely would not go again .

they serve you a massive platter filled with garbage , sausages, chicken schnitzel which taste like the ones you get from woolworths (if not worse) and ridiculous amount of cabbage . The terms is that you must finish EVERYTHING on the platter before being able to order another platter. The platter itself is $65 and with minimum participants being 2 , you will most likely get full stuffing yourself with cheap grade meats. We were both big eaters and were full after the initial platter which was not satisfying at all.

Not to mention , if you finish the platter , you MUST order another platter otherwise you can only order 1 serving of a particular meat which then they will make it your last order. Order another platter and don't finish , you're going to cop a surcharge for not finishing the platter. Biggest scam of my life , and yes i did just make a ozbargain account just to tell you to avoid this place at all costs.

tl;dr: Save your money , you're pretty much forced to purchase their biggest platter ($65) on the menu by doing this deal. Unless you enjoy very bland , non-flavoursome meats and going to finish more than 1 platter , then i would avoid.

God that sounds awful… Thanks for looking out I was looking into going here for a birthday just for the deal.

Lone Star does a similar plate for $35, touting unlimited beef/pork ribs shaved so close to the bone they're basically toothpicks, with the trick being you've gotta finish half a kilo of cold, dry steak fries every time you want more meat.

    • German food is bland by nature

      Add some hot sauce

Thanks so much for sharing. We had this booked for 5 people tonight, you have saved us a lot of cash.

      • +2

        Same. We just cancelled.

        • +2

Cancelled as well. Food quality comments aside, I can't believe they limit you to only ordering another platter or just 1 additional serve of another meat.
          Thanks for the review.

We went to the one in Castle Hill last week and were not overly impressed. You get a platter (per 2 people) with two pieces of pork belly, 4 sausages (2 each of 2 types, 1 is nice, the other is horrible), some cut up pieces of chicken schnitzel and about a dozen spicy wings which are very dry. There is a large serving spoon of mash, a tub of gravy (inedible) and then a little pot of mixed red and white sauerkraut. You have to finish EVERYTHING including all sides before they bring you another.

We took our kids (both under 12) thinking there would be a kids price, but no, full price for them. They don't eat spicy foods so we had a mountain of wings which no one wanted to eat. The food in general is average - very average. This deal is not a deal due to the severe restrictions, the fact you have to eat even the stuff you don't like or can't eat and that there is no kids pricing.

Add some expensive drinks and what was supposed to be a decently priced mid-week eat-out treat for the family turned out to be $160 worth of disappointment. Don't waste your money - this deal is not worth it.

      • +7

gee if they ask my children under 12 to pay $35 each i will just walk away. seriously.

      • Sorry about your experience but it is really helpful to me. I was thinking to take 2 kids and I saved time. Thanks!

    • This was what I was thinking maybe happening. If you have to order an entire platter each time and if theres many things on the platter that are not enjoyable then it would be a big waste of food even if they didnt charge surcharge

    • Have had multiple reports of this. Not a good deal.

  • +3

Yeah, was just going to say $35 buys you a lot of chicken schnitzels and sausages from your local butcher.

    • Most things are now cheaper to home make. Great for big families ngl

    • And you get to support your local!

  • +4

The bavarian on a normal day is very average so would expect even less when they're churning out massive platters which likely pre-cooked and reheated hence the dryness.

    • While I don't expect it to be Rockpool for the price, it's disappointing for a Neil Perry restaurant.

Then again, I'd be happy to serve mediocre food if it made me rich.

  • "Order another platter and don't finish , you're going to cop a surcharge for not finishing the platter. Biggest scam of my life " What sort of surcharge are we talking here…..sounds nuts!

  • +1

Bavarian is a Meh chain of Meh food and absolutely nothing special, or a good deal.

  • +1

Minimum 2 people per platter & $35 per person

so a platter is $70 for 2 people? And if we have 4 people in the group thats $140 per platter

    • +1

yeah or if you have 4pp then you can ask for 2 platters but then 2 people need to finish the whole platter, to get another exact same platter
      ***repeat….****

feel sick already after typing the above

Review time. Just came back from the chatswood location, ate with one friend. I wish I had read the second page of comments that were more negative, but it's my first time visiting so whatever.

First up - what you get. 4 nice sausages (2 flavours), 2 long thin sausage (plain), 3 half schnitzels, 2 hunks of pork belly, a bunch of small wings (maybe 8-10) and some mash potato. There was also a small bowl of sauerkraut and red cabbage.

This was enough to fill 2 big adults. If you are a big eater and super hungry, then you could maybe eat a bit more, but 2 platters (1 platter per person) would be a ridiculous amount of food. Maybe if there were 3 extremely hungry big eaters, that would be $105 for 2 platters working out to $52.50 per platter. A small discount over the menu price of $65.

Food itself was ok. Sausages were very nice as well as the pork belly. The plain sausage was… plain. A filler and could have been left out.

Schnitzel was plain, someone else said it was like coles stuff but I disagree (or perhaps I am uncultured). It was however dry - no sauce included. You only had a wedge of lemon and the sauerkraut to moisten it. So I ordered sauce, was told it would be like $2. Ended up being $7 for 2 sauces (mushroom and a beer sauce).

Chicken wings were a bit dry and thin. Like they had been starved. Sauce tasted like franks buffalo sauce, no problem with that since I would rather have fewer meaty and moist wings.

Conclusion - needs sauce which adds to the cost massively. Not good value in the end and got hit with a surcharge for card payments (56c on $70 purchase). Save your money and order normally, so you can choose what you want to eat. $70 for 2 people can go a decent way.

Kinda wish i just got the $6 maccas deal lmao.

Edit: sorry but I have to neg this deal, because it really isn't a deal. There's no way a regular person will eat enough to beat regular menu price. In effect you are paying menu price or even more with this 'deal'. If you want to prove that this is better than paying menu price, be my guest.

just saw it was posted in November but has only just shown up as highlighted this morning

cant complain at cheap food and good beers but. This ain't fine dining so don't expect it to be that.

  • Also negging this for visibility to others, after reading the negative experiences above. Not a bargain.

  • +4

Did this a couple weeks ago. 6 adults total. Platters and serving size get smaller each time you order as they try limit the wastage. I also over heard the wait staff briefing each other on how many each table has ordered etc.

Pork belly and chorizo looking sausage is probably the best item of the platter. Rest were average.

  • +1

Eh, I can see how this might be a deal if you have a big appetite but I find that I'm usually full after a single schnitzel anyway. At which point, is it really a deal if you're paying an extra $10 over a normal meal?

  • Avoid non-delicious fillers

  • Sisslers, and pizza hut restaurant, hmmm is this truly all we have.

    🤷

  • -1

Bring back all you can eat Pizza Hut and Sizzler not this crap.

  • Probably better off just going to Costco for a pork knuckle from the Deli section. Hot and ready to serve.
