Acid in Palm Oil Promotes The Spread of Cancer According to New Study

Acid found in palm oil encourages cancer spread, new research finds

Based on the results, will you try and avoid eating palm oil?

Do you think there should be a warning label on the products to say it causes cancer like cigarettes?

I also have a poll. Do you think palm oil should be banned in Australia?

Thought we already avoided Palm Oil for Environmental reasons?

    • Yep except for in Mi Goreng

    • Yes that is also a good reason to avoid palm oil.. As far as I know if a label says vegetable oil it may well be hiding the fact it is actually palm oil.

It’s hard to avoid at the moment as it only has to be labelled as vegetable oil https://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/generalissues/palm…

Regardless I’m not sure that it should be banned on the basis of a channel 7 news report. Clearer labelling so people can make their own choices would be a better start.

Are you sure it’s all Palms causing cancer?
    Or just Palm All?

  • i didn't read the paper but noted that the report mentioned that the paper was based on a study of mice, so i wouldn't read too much into it at the moment.

i don't eat the stuff anyway

Also cooking oil, eggs, margarine, bbq meat and soy sauce have all been linked to cancer in previous studies. Think i’ll just live my life.

      egg ?

That's right. Eggs cause cancer. You are allowed to have one.

Pretty much everything gives you cancer.

  • Ban the sun

  • Breathing air around us can cause cancer due to pollution particles. We all gonna die someday tomorrow, live today for what matters before you are unable to. :)

    • Also ban woodfire heating and excessive use of outdoor smokers

    • Reducing fine particulate matter in the air is actually something worth aiming for, not so much just for cancer but respiratory disease more generally. Hence people pushing for better regulation of vehicle emissions. Diesel vehicles in cities are awful for respiratory health.

But yes, your point stands there are many commonly accepted carcinogens - nitrates in bacon and other processed meat for example. Good luck to anyone who proposes a bacon ban 🤣

Let's not get our nickers in a knot. The study shows that palmitic acid promotes metastasis, not that it causes cancer.

  • No more Breadtop then. They put palm oil in everything.

    • Also no more regular bakery items either, because about a third of the total fat in milk and milk products is palmitic acid.

      • Especially self raising flour. Not 100% Australian ingredients? Yeah China.

      • Really? Do they add it to milk?
