Flybuys Sharing Email Addess on Transactions with 3rd Parties Unless You Opt out

Just got this email from Flybuys and just want to share it to make you guys aware in case you miss it. I think it's an annoying privacy/spam issue. Remember to opt out.

Updates to Flybuys Privacy Policy.
Exciting changes are coming to Flybuys that will provide you, our valued member, with more ways to collect points and get more out of the program.

Today, Flybuys uses your data to provide you with tailored offers. As the program expands, Flybuys is changing how it allows its partners to communicate with you.

From Wed 01 Dec 2021, when you shop at select Coles Group or Wesfarmers brands and use your Flybuys card or member number, your email address will be shared with that partner. Only a select list of partners are included in this change.

When your email address is shared with a partner, this will allow you to receive tailored email communications and offers direct from them. Before we provide your email address, you can opt out of email sharing. If you opt out, you will still be able to collect points with all partners by using your Flybuys card or member number. Once your email address has been shared, you can still opt out of communications directly with each partner.

We are also making a range of updates to our Privacy Policy to reflect changes to our business. We are committed to protecting your information. Review our updated Privacy Policy and read a summary of the key changes coming into effect on Wed 01 Dec 2021 using the button below.

… this will allow you to receive tailored email communications and offers direct from them

Its funny how they try and sugarcoat you'll be bombarded with SPAM…

Yes, like Qantas sending Wine offers at 5am.

Report them as spam as Flybuys did not want to say the partners. But I never do because I have a separate email because I know they'll sell the email anyway.

    • No idea why you were negged. Imagine being on flybuy's side.

    Mine said:

“This is a service message. You are currently unsubscribed from all Flybuys electronic marketing communications and your email address will not be shared with Flybuys partners following the updates to our Privacy Policy.”

That's weird. Maybe you opted out ages go?

The link to check in your account is:

      https://my.flybuys.com.au/manage/partner-communication

      The "partners" are:

      Bunnings Warehouse
      Coles Express
      Coles Supermarkets
      First Choice Liquor Market
      Kmart
      Liquorland
      Officeworks
      Target

      Regards,
      Ed.

Just googled as I didn't think Bunnings was a flybuys partner - they're coming onboard next month apparently as well as Officeworks https://www.finder.com.au/findings-officeworks-bunnings-flyb…

Knowing how hard it is to deal with Bunnings from a supplier status - I actually would not be surprised a lot of this came from that board of directors then :)

      • Yes, I did opt out (ages ago).

Since they know I don't want marketing communications from them, they have successfully deduced that I don't want marketing communications from anyone else either.

  • i thought all email subscriptions were on an opt-in basis in australia

    • They should be, which is why I posted this link. To be fair they're giving fair warning they'll be sharing your email address with the above 8 compaines and setting up an easy link to opt out - but surely this goes against the rules?

Thanks OP, I missed the email. Opted out.

Done Done. Under a minute to Opt Out on two Accounts, simples.

At least they were upfront and open about the move, and made Opting out very easy.

  • I opted out of all marketing, surverys and their email sharing when I joined.
Kmart just sent me a marketing email anyway that specifically stated they sent it because I used Flybuys in their store and Flybuys then shared my email with them.
I logged in and checked my Flybuys preferences and all of the "partners" are still deselected in marketing, surveys and shared email.
But, they also show that they've shared my email with Bunnings and Officeworks.
So looks like there is no guarantee they actually honour customer preferences about this.
I've contacted them with a complaint but aren't holding my breath about either a quick or an effective response from them.

    • Foggy memory…but… when Bunnings and Officeworks came onboard, I recall something about needing to Opt out again for those two.
As for Kmart and your original Opt out… give Flybuys another call. Their Call Centre staff are not as friendly last year or two as previously, but they did what was needed on the day.

I have used all three stores since the change and have not received any junk mail marketing….yet.
